He pointed me towards a local organization that did adult diagnosis, but he also encouraged me to navigate Kaiser Permanente's process since that was my health insurance provider. I successfully navigated Kaiser's process which is terrible if you're neurodivergent, but ultimately their Psychiatric team diagnosed me with ASD. I got a referral and once that went through, I called to make an appointment. I was able to get one SAME DAY. I came in the afternoon, parking lot was looking full but I was able to snag a spot close to the entrance. I walked in and PT is on the first floor, nice! I got checked in pretty smoothly and I didn't have a co-pay but we will see if I get hit with a bill later down the road. I did not have to wait that long before I was called in, probably less than 3 minutes. I had an evaluation with MF and she was great! Super professional and taught me a handful of stretches and movements to perform. She felt my neck, checked my mobility, and watched how I would work from home standing. MF gave me a lot of tips and printed out a sheet so that I can reference when I'm at home. She gave me all the tools; now it's on me to change my posture and tight pec muscles. I hope that I don't need to come back to PT because hopefully, I take everything that MF taught me and implement it into my daily routine and create a routine for myself. I think it's important to do a PT visit because we can get lost on the internet just doing random arm stretches or buying a neck massager when we really need to stretch our chest, build upper back muscles, and work on our posture. I had about four therapy sessions with him. I think Chad is an excellent therapist. Two days ago, I started a lower back therapy evaluation session with Dale Woolley. Even though it was the first therapy session but he squeezed in some exercises for me, and sent me home with a program to practice, in video and email as well. He's an awesome therapist and he has great advices on how to handle my lower back pain.

I believe this is a violation of confidentiality and may constitute a HIPAA violation.

Our family's experience with my mother's care was extremely concerning. During my mother's stay, there were repeated issues involving her basic care and medical needs. We repeatedly had to advocate for things that should have been addressed as part of her care. This included problems with obtaining her commode and walker, monitoring her weight and fluid retention while she was taking Lasix for significant heart-related concerns, and getting assistance with her CPAP machine. There were also times when our concerns were minimized despite her documented medical history and needs. My mother was discharged from Kaiser on a normal diet, yet Asbury Park gave her pureed food for much of her stay. The facility later acknowledged that this was an error and apologized. She also has psoriasis and was supposed to have creams applied as part of her care, which was not consistently done. Even more upsetting, there were times she was left in bed soiled for extended periods. We raised concerns repeatedly, and far too many things seemed to be addressed only after our family escalated them. Families should not have to constantly fight to make sure basic hygiene needs, medical equipment, dietary orders, medications, and physician instructions are being followed. Because of the seriousness of what happened, I filed a formal complaint with the California Department of Public Health. CDPH opened an investigation, went to the facility, spoke with staff and administration, and reviewed my mother's records. That investigation has now been completed, and I was informed directly by the California Department of Public Health that Asbury Park was cited as a result of their investigation. For me, that is important to include because these concerns were not simply a family being unhappy with the care our mother received. We reported what happened to the state, the state investigated, and the investigation resulted in a citation against the facility. Our loved ones deserve dignity, proper hygiene, appropriate medical care, and for their documented care plans and physician orders to be followed without their families having to repeatedly intervene. If you have a loved one staying here, please advocate for them. Visit often, ask questions, document everything, and speak up when something does not seem right. I am grateful that our concerns were taken seriously and investigated, but I wish my mother had received the level of care she deserved from the beginning.
