As a 34 year old woman who has had every hairstyle in the book, I have been through my share of…read more salons. This is by far my favorite salon. The hairstyling and products are wonderful. I have a full sew in weave with a leave out, and my natural hair is doing better now than it has in a long time. Mellie does a wonderful job with installing, cutting and styling weaves, and Moe does an awesome job of washing and styling me on a bi-weekly basis. I've also seen these ladies do amazing things with natural hair, relaxed hair and short haircuts. I've yet to see anyone walk out looking just "aiight." These ladies take pride in their work. Since the salon is in a business section of Montclair, my recommendation would be to find non-metered street parking. Parking on one of the residential blocks is much less stressful than wondering when the meter maids are coming around. Also, it gives you free time to explore all the lovely restaurants and shops once your hair is done!

What I got was something completely different and I spent 5 hours there. When I was put under the hair dryer (with bleach in my hair), Liz started working with another client and I was sitting there for over an hour. I was not happy at all so I told her I didn't like it and she told me it was what I asked for. I told her the picture is an ombre and she told me thats what I had. I explained an ombre or balyage on my hair would go black to brown to blonde. My hair went straight black to blonde with no blonde and explained she gave me highlights more than an ombre. She told me to come in the following week (4 days later) and I did. She explained to me that most people want what I got so she assumed that's what I meant. I have spots in my hair and it looked like I had gotten my hair died blonde and my black roots grew in. I explained that I wanted to look more natural and she placed brown hair dye in between the black and blonde. However, now I just have a line from brown to blonde instead of it looking cohesive. Attached are pictures.

I've never been so impressed- she really listened and was knowledgeable in guiding me on how to achieve the inspiration photos I brought in. (I am writing this review on behalf of my mother. )…read more I went to the stylist (Grace) and requested a wash, press and curl. I am African American and my hair is unprocessed/no relaxer. Because the texture is thick yet is very soft, when I go to hair salons, I get the previously described service to avoid chemical damage. When I went to the appointment, Grace washed and conditioned my hair but before she used the handheld blow dryer, she applied a chemical solution. I asked her what it was and she didn't tell me. Not wanting to cause a commotion, I just dropped it but I could tell something was not right. The chemical didn't burn but it left my hair extremely limp to the point that even after several washes, the hair hasn't returned back to its natural curl pattern/kinkiness. My hair doesn't hold a curl any more, the way it used to, prior to visiting her and it is still recovering from the damage done, as of four months later. The main thing that upsets me is that she wouldn't tell me what products she was using during the washing and conditioning process and I am certain that it was never always the same thing. A friend of mine had the same experience but again we didn't want to cause a commotion, so we have not returned.
