Picnic tables, gazebos, playgrounds, trails, fields, bathrooms, golf course, water rentals ... the list goes on and on. Visited this gorgeous, well maintained designed park by Fredric Law Olmsted this past Thursday June 9, 2002 ; well in the area for the American Heart Association 5K Run/Walk. The park is one of the oldest in the area, with plenty to do for everyone. I didn't quite have the opportunity to drive too much into the park, except where the event was held. The park itself in my opinion was well laid out, and very scenic from the bridges, walk/bike paths, trees, and even the pavilion. The course for the event had a magnificent view of the shores of Genesee River, crossing the State Bridge Canal with plenty of shade for runners or walker to enjoy. Strongly encourage out of area visitors, and locals to use its a diverse city experience and gets you outside to enjoy the beauty of nature. read more

Rochester has a lot of beautiful beautiful parks and green spaces that are located within the city. One doesn't have to travel far to find themselves surrounded and immersed by nature. Though I have been to several parks in the area my favorite so far is Genesee Valley Park. I recommend parking at Moore Rd entrance near Roundhouse shelter and take a beautiful walk along the tree line trail to the Erie Canal bridges. If you're lucky you just might get to see one of those cute canal houseboats. read more

This park is special on so many levels. Designed by Frederic Law Olmsted, Genesee Valley park boasts eye catching features like bridges, path, trees, and statues, and is also rich with amenities like shelters, sports fields, a golf course, and kayak rentals. I don't know if another park in town is so stuffed to the brim with things to do, which I think makes it seem a bit more overwhelming than a Cobb's Hill or even a Highland. It stretches a huge chunk of waterfront land from Crittenden to the U of R. 5ks and marathons often begin and end in this park, and there is crazy amount of open field space to play with if that's what you're looking for. It sit on the intersection of the Riverway trail and the Erie Canal trail, making for gorgeous views as you bike or walk. Kayaking off from the rental place here is also the most interesting and diverse city viewing experience you can have. I do feel like this park is underutilized by ROC citizens, so maybe take a chance on this gorgeous green space for your next picnic or game. read more

I went st the peak of the Autumn colors and was not disappointed, but too cold to stay too long. I explored the park first by car, since I cannot walk that much. Encountered different areas that were picture perfect. There were not too many people walking or around the park. It was late afternoon, before the Sun went down and the colors were magnificent. Golden, Reddish hues on the trees and landscape. I found a statue between the foliage of Edward Mott Moore, he was the President of the American Medical Association and the Board of Trustees of the University of Rochester. A gazebo at one of the Parking areas served to frame some photos.. I think it called the Round House It was a picture perfect afternoon visit while the Autumn Foliage was at its best. It has become my favorite second park in Rochester, which has its share of beautiful parks to call its own. read more

Another beautiful Rochester park in the city and a reminder of how wonderful nature can be even in the city itself. Walking distance from the U of R and the hospital, this park straddles the Genesee River where it meets the Erie Canal with a nice area in between for relaxing, playing sports, picnics, and having an event at a number of different shelters. There are some smaller hiking trails and especially if you walk over the bridge on the University side of the river, you can follow and old rail line trail for miles. On the opposite side of the park are numerous ball diamonds, benches, and much more green space to enjoy! read more

GVP is a great park to wander around in, great hiking trails, lots of shaded areas, a couple pavilions, and is right next to the river and the canal. The bike paths that run along the canal and the river meet here so if you are on a jog or bike ride you can change trails here. Rib fest moved here this year and it was a great location for it, very convenient parking, quick access in and out, and also had a lot of great spots to sit and enjoy the ribs. Also the home to 10 ugly men festival which is one of the best festivals in the Rochester area. read more

We just finished the Stroll for Strong Kids walk at Genesee Valley Park. It was my first time visiting the park and I really enjoyed it. The paved trail going around the park was a little over 2 miles and easy enough to push a stroller on. There was lots of open areas to play, relax or have a picnic. We would visit again and look forward to going to more of the events held at this location. Only CON: Elmwood Ave. is under construction so it took an ETERNITY to get here (with all the traffic from the walk.) GPS said it'd take 20 min, took about 50+. Not the park's fault I know but a pain in the a** none-the-less. read more

Really loved our visit to the park. The foliage was so pretty. There are lots of large pavilions for gatherings when that is possible again. Walking along the water was very nice, even on a chilly day. There were a few places to sit and some shade. And it was mostly paved, which didn't hurt. We walked far enough through that we were able to cross the street and check out parts of the U of R campus, which were beautiful in Fall colors. read more

Genesse Valley Park features a lot of things for a park. From wide open expanses of grass to several different pavilions and even brick and mortar bathrooms, it has it all. On any given day, you can walk, run or bike the trails around the park that border the water. Plus, if you head there around 6pm, you can watch some kickball to boot. It's a great place for picnics, grill outs, etc. It can get pretty waterlogged during the spring/summer months but that's to be expected with any place in Rochester really. read more

One of my favorite parks in the downtown area. It's great for picnics, walks/runs/bike along the trails, plus our kickball leagues play here so that's entertaining to watch. It's really lush and there are a lot of places to roam and hang with family/friends. In the winter it's a good spot for cross country skiing. It's also a perfect spot to host major events because of it's size. Some of which include Ten Ugly Men, Pride Picnic, & Roc City Rib Fest. For the history buffs, this park was also developed by landscape architect Frederic Law Olmsted. There are a few different areas where you can enter since it basically borders downtown and Henrietta. I usually go in at the Elmwood entrance. Have a map handy because it is pretty expansive. It's a beautiful bike or drive during the lush summer months or at peak fall time especially along the golf course. read more

Lush picturesque park that intersects with the Genesee Valley Trail and the Lehigh Valley Trail. My favorite area is the old railroad bridge that crosses the canal along the north side of the Genesee. Keep going past the highway overpass on that side and you'll come across a few hidden gems, the first of which is a section of the Genesee Valley Greenway that has been partially reclaimed by nature and then Little Black Creek Park, which is on the other side of Scottsville Road. The main downside to this area is that the Genesee water can smell really bad, that's something you only notice if you go kayaking. Great place for a run or picnic. read more

Love it here! I mean, how can one not love a park. Our kickball team plays here pretty regularly, so I've gotten my fair share of visits in here. There's lots of flat, open space for any sort of sports you want to play. If you're into hiking/jogging, there's also a really nice trail that goes through the park and takes you over the canal. They do have pavilions available for get togethers, and there are picnic tables and grills available as well. They do not have trash receptacles here, and it is a carry in/carry out park. It can be a little difficult to find parking during the summer evenings, as they do use the park for kickball games from 6-8 and you also have your normal after work crowd coming to unwind. Just be sure to park in designated areas, I have seen the parking enforcement people walking around and ticketing on more than one occasion. read more

This park, originally called South Park, is part of Rochester's Frederick Law Olmstead designed park system. Olmstead, a renown landscape architect is most famous for his work at Central Park in Manhattan. It's great for large events (like Ten Ugly Men) and is used for kickball most of the summer. There are also many other recreation opportunities like kayaking along the river and canal. It's a great piece of the larger system. read more

It's always super quiet when we are there. Its a beautiful place to take a walk and get lost in nature and the playground is good all be it needs an upgrade but its just and all around nice place for family fun! read more
