First off, the parking situation is strange. You have to park next door in a lot that is not theirs. Doesn't seem as safe as I'd hoped. Second, the bed was straight trash. I could tell that it was well worn because of the dents and divets I kept rolling into at night. I was NOT comfortable. Third, there was a toe nail in the corner of the room, so I don't think they are cleaning very well. Fourth, my view was of trash cans. I called the front desk asking to switch rooms but apparently it was full. The only reason they got 2 stars from me is because the room had a hot tub. I cleaned it as best as I could and enjoyed a bath which was nice. Having said that, I won't be back.

It was absolutely packed when we went. Every gallery on First Friday tends to have its own style and the artists they feature reflect that. This one leaned more toward pop art. Bright colors, bold graphics, and pieces that mix humor with commentary. Some of the works had pretty sharp messages that feel very tied to the current cultural moment. Because it was so crowded, my friend and I didn't stay too long. There were also quite a few tables with leftover food and half finished beers sitting out that hadn't been cleaned up yet, which made the space feel a little messy. It might just be because the turnout was bigger than expected. Still, it was cool to see the hotel participate and turn the space into a gallery for the night. Worth popping into if you're already doing the First Friday rounds.

The hotel has so much charm and character and definitely doesn't feel like your typical hotel. The location is also perfect. You can walk to so many great spots in Old City. I went to Tuna Bar for a solo dinner and it was literally a 2-minute walk away. I also loved the Bluetooth speaker in the room. Such a small detail, but being able to play my music and vibe out made it feel that much more comfortable. Overall, such a cute spot for a Philly staycation or if you're visiting and want somewhere with a little more personality. I'd definitely stay again!

I absolutely loved all the little extra touches, and every staff member I communicated with (either online or over the phone) was friendly and helpful. First, let me say that I've never been a big fan of Hostels, with that being said, this is a pretty…read moregood hostel, especially for large groups. I will say that driving up to the Chamounix Mansion could have been a scene from a B-horror movie, a big old house in the middle of the woods. Our experience was nothing like that though. Claire and Andie are the house managers and both were nice and accommodating. They supplied sheets, linens, blanket and a pillow. You need to bring your bathroom supplies (towel, deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothbrush etc). Our Scout troop stayed here and we had both buildings, the Mansion and the cottage which is across a lawn/courtyard area. Their main kitchen/dining area is in the basement of the mansion which fit 70 scouts with a little room to spare. Since it was the first week in April and it was warm, 70 degrees, the AC was not on yet but they have several pedestal room fans which made it adequate. Each room had several bunk beds, lights, outlets etc. The mansion and the cottage each had a common room with a TV in it. They have free wifi but you get a strong signal on your cell phone without it. Overall we had a good experience and I definitely recommend it for large groups.

The staff who run the hostel were really cool, friendly, and helpful. My room was clean when I had arrived, and I was given an acceptable time to leave my room (11:00). My room had sound proofing foam covering every wall every wall but I still could hear whom ever walked past the door, who ever was outside in the common area, and in the room above me. However that's because the building itself is old, like most of the buildings in that part of Philly. I was lucky and I had the room to myself, which was neat and clean. Same for the nice sized bathroom and shower stall. There were small lockers provided in the room for me to keep my stuff in. I thought they were kind of small, as I only had room for my stuffed backpack (which I had to put in horizontally to get it to fit) and my overnight bag, but otherwise it wasn't a problem for me. My only complaint about the room I stayed in was the mattress, it was too thin for me, but then again I am a bigger bloke so.... Anyways, they have a strict no food or drink policy in the rooms, however water is an exception to this rule. And they perform routine room checks starting around 8 in the morning, or so. The location is very convenient! There's a small book shoppe one door down, the Liberty Bell, Edgar Allen Poe's house, Penn's Landing, and Benjamin Franklin's Old House are all within walking distance right on or off of Market Street. It's also easy to get to the Reading Terminal Market, the Convention Center from there too if you use Market Street as a "main road" if you travel by foot. Final notes; this hostel sells locks for the lockers, some deodorants, toothpaste, and the like, however there is a 5 Below just up the road. And they do host event Nights-one of them is a Night at the nearby Dave and Busters! (Saturday, I think?) Anyways, I will stay here again in the future.

I found this spot on Airbnb and I lucked out as it was just 3 nice blocks from my conference! This place is incredibly lean and organized. I felt very safe! It felt like college life! The parking lot had lots of space and was very well lit. The manager who checked me in was also the maintenance person. He showed me how to use the door key-card and watched to be sure I could get in. The sheets and towels were clean with no stains. The mattress and pillows were perfect for me. Lighting in the room was excellent. The microwave and refrigerator were in good working condition. Bathroom and counter with deep sink were all clean. I don't watch tv so I didn't turn it on. For me, one of the nicest things about the motel is the location. It is less than a half mile from Newlin Grist Mill, a free park with miles of dirt trails through towering trees, beside lovely streams. I walked the evening I arrived and went back to walk again the next morning. Another nice thing about the location is that it is about a mile from a big shopping center where I got lunch at California Tortilla, in Concordville Town Centre. BONUS: The motel was very quiet at night. The manager is courteous and friendly. I will be back when I'm in the area.

I booked this for Memorial day weekend. Their systems were down so they couldn't properly book us…read morein correctly. If you're looking to be able to sleep forget it. The site says soundproof rooms and they are not. You can smell people smoking through the walls. If you book the hotel because the site also states they have bbq grills, they do, but it's a small stand up grill with the bottom rusted out. The back side of the hotel has christmas ornaments just stashed on the sidewalk. The vending maching takes your money. As far as the room itself, it was dusty, they give you 2 washclothes and 2 towels with a bathmat. We went for extra towels at 4 pm and was told you can only get towels before 12 pm. The construction looks like a 10 yr old painted and spackled the room. Upon inspection the good thing is we didn't see any bugs of any sort.
