History
Established in 1972.
Gene and Yvonne Ficek founded Gene's Lock Shop in 1972. They started small and throughout more than 40 years, they expanded to become one of the most established and successful businesses on Spearfish's Main Street. Gene and Yvonne retired in 2013 and sold the business to the current owners Bryan and Angie Viehauser who have had much success in updating the business and adding more advanced technology options into the inventory.
Meet the Business Owner: Bryan and Angie V.
Bryan and Angie hail from Austin, Minnesota, where they met and married. Bryan had worked in carpentry for 10 years until his brother-in-law asked him to help run his Austin-based locksmith business. With his love of tinkering and problem solving, he was hooked! This led him to take classes and develop the skills to become a safe technician.
While vacationing in Spearfish, South Dakota, they stopped by the local lock shop to say hello, and the owners, Gene and Yvonne, mentioned that they were ready to retire. Two years later, the couple relocated to Spearfish and became the proud new owners of Gene's Lock Shop.
