They have a huge amount of space inside their store & they utilize every inch. I like how their sections are relatively organized by category, although it can get a bit overwhelming with just how much they have. Everywhere you look there's display cases loaded with figures & bookshelves filled out. They have the best selection of comic books in south Florida, by far. When it comes to quantity & variety they have a great offering. Horror, superheroes, sci-fi, anime; they have some of everything. They keep a nice stock in their weekly release section & carry a lot of sought-after series. While they don't carry every cover variant, they do a good job at having at least a couple for most issues. The workers are usually pretty friendly. They offer help looking for items in their massive store & will point you in the right direction if you have any questions. I've never once had a bad experience in all the years I've been visiting. As good as they are, I have 2 complaints. First off, they're sometimes a bit overpriced. Whether it be an action figure or certain comic, there's been times where I've found them pricing things $2-$15 over market value. While get it's a business, I hate finding something here only to realize I can get it online cheaper. I'm ALWAYS for supporting local businesses but unfortunately it dissuades that. Lastly, sometimes I'll look for a series to start & they'll only have issues #2 & on. While it's not that big of a problem, I always grab issue #1 before any others so this'll cause me to skip out. Usually, however, this doesn't happen often. Overall, Tate's is the place for all your comic & collectible needs. There's not much more to ask for considering their good service, up-to-date selections & large variety. Also, be sure to check out their art gallery upstairs. They carry tons of stickers, prints, originals & crafts from local artists!

From a tiny shop to an Eisner Award-winning giant, Tate's Comics is Florida's comic book cathedral…read more Walking into Tate's Comics for the first time is one of those life-altering, jaw-to-the-floor moments -- and for me, that was over 20 years ago. I still remember "Old Man Tate" greeting people with that mix of humor, knowledge, and genuine warmth that made you feel like you weren't just walking into a comic shop, you were walking into a community. He was a real gem of a man, an educator in his own right, and the heartbeat of the place. I still miss him. But here's the beauty: his son has carried the mantle and turned Tate's into nothing less than a comic book Mecca. What started as a small neighborhood shop has exploded into what is hands-down the best comic book store in the state of Florida -- and yes, I'd put it up against most in the country too. Don't just take my word for it: Tate's won the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award, basically the Oscar for comic shops. That's how legendary this place is. The store itself is massive, sprawling, and beautifully curated. Comics, graphic novels, manga, collectibles, action figures, statues, vinyl toys, rare finds -- it's like a nerd's cathedral, filled with treasures in every aisle. You could spend hours here and still miss something. The staff? Friendly, helpful, and never gatekeep-y. Whether you're a hardcore collector, a casual reader, or just holiday shopping for that "special geek in your life," they make you feel welcome. When it comes to value, Tate's is unbeatable. Sure, you can buy comics or toys online, but here you get fair prices, expert advice, and the thrill of discovering something new on the shelves. From single-issue comics to high-end collectibles, they strike that perfect balance of competitive pricing and curated quality. The fact that you can walk in with twenty bucks and leave happy -- or drop a couple hundred on a rare statue -- shows the range they cover. It's proof that value isn't just about price; it's about the experience of shopping in a place where every dollar feels well spent. It's also a great spot for holiday shopping. Where else can you grab a signed graphic novel, a rare toy, and a quirky enamel pin all in one place? It's basically Santa's workshop if Santa was obsessed with Batman, Funko Pops, and Gundam models. If I had one wish, it'd be for them to host more events -- comic signings, meetups, gaming nights. That sense of community was always the soul of Tate's, and while the shop is still thriving, those moments made it magical. Tate's Comics is more than a store. It's history, it's family, it's a legacy. Old Man Tate laid the foundation, his son built the empire, and the rest of us are lucky enough to shop there. Come for the comics, stay for the legacy, and leave knowing you just visited a place where heroes don't just live on the page -- they built the shop.

Family Cards and Games is one of the best comic stores I have been to in South Florida…read more It offers a good variety of toys, cards and other collectibles with decent prices. I purchased a nice set (refer to the photos), which I had been looking for for a while and found it here way cheaper than in many places and Amazon. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is centrally located in a shopping plaza with plenty of stores around. There is a free parking lot with a lot of spaces. Overall, 100% recommended.

Not sure of what to make of this store overall…read more Loads of Hotwheels cars but they only sell the cheap peg warmers. All the Supers, TH and collectibles are said to be later giveaways. What ??? How does that work for the landlord and rent ?? Perhaps some locked display cases marked as personal collection, versus in direct sales area, only to disappoint true collectors. The other side is Pokémon and anime type items. They offered they are not authorized vendors and thus resellers. They have to pay retail in same local market as consumers and then resell at markup. They had very limited cases and elite kit of Pokémon which is similar to our current market. Had some individual packets of several years and series. Pricing was indeed high retail. It appears the real meat and potatoes of this business renting space to play games in center area. They also suggested they setup Hotwheels tracks and racing on certain weekend days. They said to offer the true gamer days on how to learn the actual card games too. Overall it was a once and done for our family. Owners wife was pleasant and introduced herself. Not sure how this design and focus may survive in the often high space rent of South Florida. All agreed business definition needs better and tighter focus for survival.

Great use of the limited space available. I'm not a DnD player, but they have some very impressive rooms with a very high tech looking setup that I imagine is an awesome addition to the gameplay experience. Lots of products and supplies available with friendly staff. The regulars are all friendly and seems easy to find a game of commander most days. Parking can be nightmarish, but no points deducted.

Grand Opening Night! I'm gonna be honest and say this 3…read morestar review is based on what's currently happening but the potential for a 5 star exists! First, finding parking at Pick-A-Ball is never fun, but Friday night while this shindig is going on was bad. Ended up parking in back in the grass. Once I got in and saw how crowded it was, totally made sense. So Skillshotz will be downstairs but the Grand Opening event was upstairs, so up we go... Food! Hungry Howie's is catering the event and your $5 entry gets you all you want. Pizza, pasta, wings, salad, and desserts. Sign me up! It's not a very complete bar but they do have beer, wine, and liquor, comparable to prices anywhere else. Okay, so far I'm on board. Skillshotz has their own advert table set up here, follow on social media and you can spin the wheel of fun. Thank God I won a T shirt instead of losing a shoe... ? There are a couple of other vendors on hand hawking anime pins and stickers, one table selling custom dice, and one with hard plastic molded jewelry shaped like ouija boards and bird skulls. Seems a bit more geared towards kids than the RPG venue they are trying for, definitely not set for the gamers they want to pull in, but we'll see what happens as the night progresses. So tonight's main hall event is a set of 9 different D&D games going on in the big room upstairs. There were a few other empty tables as well. LOUD is the first and overwhelming impression of this space which is intended to be a pickle ball court one day. Bare concrete walls, floors, and a high metal ceiling may look cool in a NY loft or on a pickle ball court, but do not lend themselves to a shared gaming space with music playing in the background. This is a one off for tonight though so we will cut them some slack. Looks like everyone is doing Adventurers League, (Epic!) which bills itself as a way of introducing everyone to the game, yet 2 complete revolutions around the room with a pause at each table failed to elicit even a greeting, much less an invitation to sit, but the games were already underway, and that's not really why we are here, so on with the tour. Private rooms downstairs are being planned (high on potential but not quite there yet). Rooms will be rentable at $20 per session but... a $30 monthly membership will allow you access to a DM and a private room to play in. 2 five hour sessions per month with your membership. You also get discounts in food, and priority for rooms. Each room will be themed, and decorated to match. Fairy, Cthulu, Vampire, The Armory, etc., and have 8x4 LED virtual game tables (with covers should you choose to play something else) to play on, stream compatible, smoke machines, midi decks and sound systems including voice modulators. I was also informed that within 6 months they plan on converting the 3 basketball courts to one giant LCD floor and will do LARP events with a dungeon floor created for the game! Looks like big things to come. I'll be back!
