Super cute little movie theatre. We stopped by on a recent trip down south to see my family. This is the retro, small-town cineplex you see in movies and on television, yet very rarely see in real-life unless you live nearby. It was adorable. It's located along the historic downtown Calhoun retail district in an old building (everything downtown is) and it's in great shape. Admission is cheap (at least in comparison with most larger movie theatre franchises and IMAX screens) at this particular little theatre. It plays host to both mainstream and art films and concerts. Flyers for upcoming events are usually posted on the window. It isn't open all day like most theatre locations which I am accustomed to (bummer), bit it's a small town theatre and has its own specific charms. I was impressed. What a little hidden gem! Love this theatre for concerts and movies. I have seen many concerts here and they are very cheap but the acoustics in there are awesome. The seats are cushioned and not a bad seat in the house. The movies are usually holiday or seasonal and the concerts seem to be mostly cover bands lately but not a bad way to spend your money. Established in 1939.

After being closed for over 30 years, the GEM re-opened in 2011. The GEM features the best of both the past and present, as its appearance takes you back to 1939 and its amenities provide a state-of-the-art theatre experience. The original GEM is best remembered as a movie theatre, but the renovated 461 seat GEM showcases a variety of entertainment.

Just made a donation drop off at the Calhoun location. There was a person standing at the door but…read morehe just stood there looking at me as I opened the bed of our pickup. He didn't greet me or make any attempt to help me unload until I asked and then said the carts were full. There was already a sidewalk full of previous donations so I proceeded to add to the pile. Our donations were neatly boxed, taped, and not too heavy but he sighed with each removal. No offer of a receipt or even a thank you for the donation. Wow...definitely will rethink where our next donation goes...lack of appreciation and poor customer service doesn't set well.

I have gone a couple of times with very specific items in mind (not usually wise when thrifting), and miraculously, those items were there. Honestly, a dark green velveteen jacket, a black velvet cape, and a black lace blouse? They also have wonderful NORMAL stuff and brand name clothing in good shape. On another visit with out of town thrifting friends, they went a little crazy here. They tell me they will have lists for their next visit.

She came back, night after night, trying to woo him into a trap to get him safe and much needed medical care. Right then, I knew that this person was special. She is an advocate for the voiceless and forgotten. She has so much tenacity and dedication and she makes me want to be a better person. Please support this rescue if you can. They offer a ticket discount every Tuesday, all day, and also have showings of classic movies on Wednesdays and Sundays. The theater is busy but usually not crowded. It's easy to buy tickets on line to reserve your seats, and they feature all the current movies. We saw both Project Hail Mary and Marty Supreme there!
