After calling around to find a shop to fix a lawn mower that had been used and abused, Chris was the only one of three that called me back. He said he could get to it in a couple of days. I took it down there, Chris was very personable, did a great job at communicating what he would do and was clear on the price. After spending most of a day on it and doing even more than he originally mentioned, the price stayed the same. He showed me all the old junky parts and sparkplugs and showed me all the stuff he did with it. It looked as good as new. He even fired it up, starting on the first pull. I will hands down go back to Chris and Gem State, it was a great experience and I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone. Thanks Chris! read more

I just wanted to give a shout out to Chris and Gem State Small Engine Repair. I have taken an older commercial mower to him over the last 5-6 years and I couldn't be happier with his service, friendliness and expertise. He did the usual mower maintenance and then addressed several issues that come with having a 20+ year mower in order for it to last another 15-20 years. Parts are not always available for this model and he addressed the issues with ingenuity that comes from many years of experience. Gem State is the only place I would take a residential mower for service and maintenance. Also, the work was completed within a week, so very much appreciated. read more

I cringe when I have to go to these small engine repair places cause it's usually a cranky old dude who shames me for not taking care of my mower like he would have. Not this guy. He was very nice and friendly. He explained my problem and what I could do to avoid it in the future, without being condescending. He even noticed my 2 problems before I could fully explain them. He had both problems fixed in about 5 mins and I was able to leave with my mower back in business. And it was so inexpensive I felt bad after leaving thinking I should have gave him more money. You need to go to this guy, he's awesome. read more

I needed to get my lawn mower ready for the summer season - blade sharpened - oil changed - cleaned up, etc. I called another place and they told me that it would take four weeks. When I called Chris at Gen State he said to bring it in and I would have it back in two days. He even called me back to let me know he would be out of the shop for a couple of hours and didn't want me to come when he was gone. It was ready in one day and the work was excellent. I will be definitely going back to Gem State Small Engine Repair when I need my next service. read more

I bought a lawnmower from Gem State, getting a used one that was in great shape that fit in my budget. Chris explained some of the unique features of the mower and provided recommendations on getting its best performance as well as extending its life. This mower has been one of the best purchases I've made all year. After quite a bit of use I took it into Gem State for routine service, which was done quickly, expertly, and affordably. Highly recommended. read more

Toro Mower needed service as it would not start. Gem State contacted me after I left a voicemail. Drove over to the shop and dropped the mower off. Chris at Gem State diagnosed the problem and explained his services. Tune up, which included changing spark plug, new engine oil, and sharpening the blade. Mower was ready the following weekend. Chris contacted me. Picked up mower and starts in 1-2 pulls. Very pleased with Gem State! read more

Very impressed. Super personable, friendly and easy to talk to. Sometimes with these types of businesses I feel like I'm rushed or pressured. Or I feel like I'm and "inconvenience" to talk things over with. I don't like to be rushed haha. Sometimes I need a minute to think about prices and services. But not her. He very easy to work with and talk to. Reasonable prices. Definitely recommend and will come here for all my small engine needs! read more

I just bought my second mower from Gem State for our rental property. I brought my mower in last year to be fixed. They not only fixed the problem but cleaned up my machine and sharpened the blades at no cost. This year it was turning out excessive amounts of smoke so i brought it back in. They took care of the problem (which i had caused) and cleaned up my mower free of charge. First visit re a problem attaching a wheel to a fertilizer spreader. Had tried two hardware stores & a landscaping shop, none of which could offer "that kind of service"--but one suggested this shop. What a find! I suspect it is truly a gem kind of place & guy (Chris), who's owned it for many (39?) years. The whole of it made a great impression; I'll be back. read more

I have been going to Gem State for a number of years now. They always do a great job not only tuning up my mower, but giving it a thorough cleaning as well. If there are ever issues, they clearly explain what is wrong, what is preventative, and how to make my mower function at its highest performance. They have a quick turnaround, and very friendly service. read more
