Horrible customer service! I decided not to use hc lights this year after my experience last year…read more Last year I paid to have my lights put up in the beginning of November which would have insured they were up before Thanksgiving. I purposely chose this option because I was having a big Thanksgiving at my house and wanted my lights up. As Thanksgiving was approaching I heard nothing from the company, so I call. They didn't have me on the schedule etc. I get some money back because I told them I paid for the service months before to be done in early November. They came around two weeks before Christmas. When my lights finally got taken down there were clips left all over my walk way. This year I told them I wanted to pick up my lights. I was told to call back they need 48 hours notice. I call back they say I don't know who said 48 it's 72. I called again talked to a nice younger girl and she said she would check the warehouse. She gets back on the phone says that since it was before thanksgiving they were busy forgot to pull my lights and I could come any time the following week to get them. She was very nice so I said ok. I call the next week and speak to a Tina who says no we need 48 hours notice. I explain I keep calling and that I was told they would be pulled and ready to pick up anytime this week. She tells me she has to call the warehouse and would call me back. Hours later no call back. I call, get Tina again. She tells me she hasn't heard back and would call me when she did (yet the other girl ran to the warehouse to get an answer) I never heard from them and I stopped calling. I supposedly "own" my lights which I paid for and they never got back to so I could pick them up and gave me the run around. I never received my lights. This company rips you off during the holidays!

This was never mentioned when they signed us up for holiday lights set up. They said when we first sign up we buy the lights, they are ours and holiday creations will put them up and take them down each year during the holiday season. We only pay for setup and take down. Today when I called them an extremely rude woman by the name of Cara answered and said that now the minimum for setting up lights is 1500..there was never a minimum before this. I said this was never mentioned to us that the minimum to set up lights would go up by that much and she said if you don't like it then you can pick up your lights from the warehouse in Bridgeview. Then she says a notice stating minimums were going up was mailed in August and I said we never received that letter. I asked her how come it was never emailed since mail can be unreliable and can get lost. I said you guys email all the time and send invoices via email and send soliciting emails and multiple other emails. I said how come such an important piece of information was never emailed and she had no answer obviously. I don't recommend this company because they lie and are not honest and upfront with their policies. You sign up today and next month they will change their contract unbeknownst to you.

Crest has been a Chicago staple and when I finally was…read moreready to upgrade my lighting again I went back to the place that had been tried and true for me years ago. But it seems that era has ended. I came in a hot mess, I have no design skills. I relied on the sales person to help me and I thought she was amazing. She was kind, patient and seemed to really get me and my condo style - benig "vintage" and wanting to modernize was beyond me. She was super helpful and made me feel like she knew exactly what I needed. That was until I left the showroom. I ordered two ceiling fans from her that day, it wasn't cheap. I also ordered one I'd found on my own online. I hired someone reputable to install them for me and I was all set. But then they left and within days the two I purchased from Crest (different manufacturers) were both on the fritz. Hard to believe for sure, but both manufacturers agreed this was a fluke and they both had inherent issues requiring replacement. And then I had to replace them, which meant I had to pay for the labor again. One of the fixtures is in a room I hadn't needed the fan for in the first year. But then I did, and it didn't work. At that same time I noticed the on/off switch wasn't working properly either. I called the manufacturer and they agreed it was a warranty claim and to call Crest to replace the wall switch. Not something I feel comfortable doing on my own. When I talked to Crest, they said they'd order me a part and well... they did but never called to tell me it had come in. I called on my own three weeks later and they said it was there waiting for me. I verified I could wait for the weekend to get it. Of course they are closed on Sundays so It had to be during the short Saturday hours. I raced to get there in the window only to find a lot of confusion. It wasn't waiting for me at all. The woman who said she'd call me was there and surprised I was asking questions. She said she hadn't heard back from the manufacturer to answer my question about paying for labor, and they all just threw their hands up and said they couldn't help me because the manager wasn't there. Let's just say it's the end of an era and I won't be back for business in the future. Good luck with your purchases after you leave the store.

I found Chris via Yelp when I had a wall that start buzzing when I turned on a light switch,…read morecoupled with a three way switch that wasn't behaving normally anymore. No one I knew had any recommendations, so I contacted a few electricians on Yelp because I didn't know where to start. He responded quickly and was EXTREMELY helpful, talking to me on several calls to give an estimate and initial troubleshooting ideas, including suggestions for what to tell my building's engineer in case I opted to have the engineer try to fix it first. He had me send photos of my electrical panel and he mentioned the brand of breakers I had (Challenger) are known to be problematic and hazardous, so he suggested that I have them swapped out when I have the lightswitch fixed. He said my building engineer could probably do it if I preferred that, which would be less expensive. Because my building just changed maintenance/engineering companies earlier this year and I don't really know or trust the new engineer yet, I wanted to have an electrician do this to make sure it was done correctly. I was impressed by his Yelp reviews, Angie's List reviews, and BBB rating, so I hired him. Chris was super easy to work with to schedule the appointment, and he gave me a 2 hour window for when he'd arrive (and as it approached, he called/texted to update me on a more exact ETA). I ended up having him replace all my breakers, and he also replaced the three light switches that were faulty. He also swapped out my hardwired smoke detector, since my old one was past its prime. I pre-purchased the breakers and detector since I had a few days' lead time, so he only charged me for the switches and his time (which was spot-on with the estimate he gave me over the phone). He also went up on my roof when he saw the breaker for my AC unit seemed to not make sense for the size of my apartment, and sure enough it was not what the AC unit sticker said it should be. So he replaced that one with the correct amperage, which reduces the strain on the AC Unit (so it doesn't get damaged) and reduces the risk of a fire. He also found some problems with my building's roof and some building wiring that was exposed up there, which he photographed and sent to me so I could pass it along to the board and management company for them to handle. Chris is a super nice guy, and he was great at explaining what was wrong and what needed to be fixed without upselling me. I'm someone who stresses out about anything home maintenance because I'm terrified of something going tragically wrong, so I appreciated the info he shared. I've already recommended him to my neighbors in our building's facebook group, and I will definitely hire him again for any other electrical work I may need. (I may eventually get my life together and replace some ceiling light fixtures and install a fan. While in theory I could do it myself, I'd rather not accidentally electrocute myself. Plumbing and electric are the two things I don't mess around with, even for simple fixes).
