REAL gelato. Left: pistachio and mango gelati. Right: nocciola and peach gelati.
Minjoo K.

Hmm, what can I say about Gelato Mio? How about wonderful, magnificent, terrific, phenomenal, and fan- FREAKIN-tastic? Paciugo? Ha! I scoff at your so called "gelato". Enter Gelato Mio and you enter a world of light, fluffy, flavor filled, REAL gelato that will make you forget where you are (literally, the walls disappeared around me as I ate my gelato). The place was bustling each time we walked by (we visited Notting Hill on two separate days). It's a cute store front shop with additional seating downstairs. I got two flavors, mango and pistachio, and my friend got the peach and nocciola (hazelnut) gelati. Forget the mango and peach. The nocciola and pistachio are hands down the best! Especially the nocciola. I probably sampled more of that than I should have from my friend. I'm sure if I ever go to Italy, I'll be even more blown away by their gelato, but in London at least, it's a little piece of Italia. The crowds of fellow gelato eaters make it exciting to be there, and I got a "Ciao bella" from the cute worker as we left, so that was nice. :) If you ever find yourself on Portobello Road, this is a MUST stop. Oh, I wish I had some right now.

Qype User (akeel…)

It was snowing in London yesterday (for a very short while), but it's always gelato weather for me, so when the craving kicked in and I just happened to be passing by Gelato Mio, I just had to go in! But what a drastic change in atmosphere from my visit to the gelateria in the summer! The place was empty and the containers of icy yumminess nearly untouched. I guess most people don't do gelato in freezing weather conditions. The italian guy that served me insisted I try more than a couple of flavours before choosing my scoop, so I did. Eventually, I chose the yoghurt based blueberry gelato, which was refreshing and very tasty. I think I'll have the the pear and ginger sorbet next time, or perhaps the caffe gelato and of course I'll have to have a scoop of the pistachio. I'm a midlands gal, so I'm used to paying less for gelato, so I found the prices here a little higher than average. One scoop will cost you £2.50. The gelato is good but not the best I've had! I ate my gelato whilst I walked to the station, but if I'd had company, I would definitely have eaten inside, unless it hadn't been snowing. Gelatio Mio has typical gelateria seating on the shop floor, but the basement is a real surprise. The black furniture and leather seating, the fireplace(unlit) and exposed brick work gives it the ambience of a bar.

Came In here for mango in a cup to go. Some seating inside, however, we needed this to be a to go situation.

In fact, I would have missed Amorino except for others in my group were not amused by a Pub with a namesake associated with a sensitive body piercing. Plus, they are gelato fanatics so this place pulled them in like a moth to flame. It is a clean, well-run shop with plenty of flavors available. The display case was quite appealing, especially the written descriptions of the flavors. There is always at least 1 lactose free option as well (on the day we were there, it was Chocolate Sorbetto) and they are very hip to give you test samples before you make a decision which is a very friendly touch in favor of the customer. While this might seem to be the norm, this shop is also in a high tourist-traffic area and I would imagine that putting up with idiots on vacation all day long might get old pretty quick. Nevertheless, they seemed very welcoming and happy to serve us which is always nice to experience as a consumer. I did not sample the goods since I was wasting my calories this trip on pub suds instead of gelato. But those in my group that did partake are somewhat authoritarian experts in the craft of frozen, dairy-based desserts. And they proclaimed it to be on par with typical European style gelato. Nothing more and nothing less and it scratched the itch of a palate in need of a gelato fix. It was not cheap but nothing in the UK is. If you are in the area and in the mood, I think you can't go wrong with a stop at Amorino for a taste of good-quality gelato.

I dig this place near Nottingham Hill!…read more Was walking past and decided to stop by. Massive amount of flavors available. You self order at a kiosk. Good food, vibes, and friendly employees. Recommend when in NH area of London.

The Portobello outlet is relatively new and I've been waiting for an excuse to try their ice creams. Very good choice on the hottest day of the year so far. They have a relatively small selection, which actually helps with the time people take to order, so this is a definite plus! I opted for a scoop of their premium flavour "Black Forest" which is a delicious mixture of chocolate and vanilla ice cream with a delicious cherry topping. For once I didn't regret my retro choice, this gelato was perfect and not too sickly sweet. Scoops are very generous (and so they should at £3.40+), the perfect afternoon treat. Like most traditional Italian ice cream parlours the decor is nothing to write home about, plain and simple with a lot of purple thrown in - from staff uniforms to spoons, everything is purple here. They have a couple of tables outside, but there is no need to linger with Portobello Market on your doorstep!

Quickly deciding on Velvet Chocolate, Coconut Sri Lanka and Dulce de Leche (think caramelised milk) I engaged in the most rich and luxurious taste of Morellis gelato. Guys, it is really good and distinctive variation on the gelato theme. You pay for it (£7,30 for mine) but the portions are substantial and the gelato itself is of the more solid consistency so the pleasure lasts longer. Check it out, 5 from me

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!…read more Apologies for sounding like Meg Ryan from that infamous restaurant scene in When Harry Met Sally but self serve fro yo has finally come to London! For those of you who read my reviews, you'll know my happiness at the recent proliferation of fro yo outlets in London but I've been lamenting the lack of self serve fro yo, which I've been lucky enough to partake of on my trips to the USA. The laments have even got to the point a fellow Yelper was trying to persuade me to open a Pinkberry franchise myself in London to get self serve fro yo! Well, lament no more shall I for Yogland has opened and their tagline is self serve frozen yogurt (I shall even forgive them the American spelling!) The advantage of self serve fro yo is that they usually offer a much wider range of flavours, you can mix the flavours to your heart's content and most importantly for me, you can add as many and as much topping as you desire - I love toppings and can't limit myself to just 2 or 3, which you have to in traditional fro yo shops. I hurried in and most of the shop looks empty with the 3 fro yo machines located at the back of the shop. The young ladies in the shop were doing a good job of explaining to customers exactly how the process works - grab a tub, fill it with yoghurt, add toppings and sauces and pay at the counter where they'll weigh your masterpiece - £1.50 per 100g but there's discounts for students as well as a Happy Wednesday offer when it's £1 per 100g on Wednesdays between 6-8pm. Today, the 3 machines offered 2 flavours out of each machine - tart and blueberry, red velvet and peanut butter, American cheesecake and pomegranate. Each machine had 3 nozzles - the end nozzles delievered a single flavour and the middle nozzle delievered a mix of the 2 flavours for that machine. Purely in the name of Yelp research, I tried all the flavours! The fro yo is of good quality - distinctive flavours and creamy, not icy cosistency, which can sometimes happen with inferior self serve fro yo machines. The toppings were a mixture of fresh fruit, nuts and sweeter offerrings. I love fruit and piled those on - pineapple, raspberries, blueberries, kiwi, satsuma and just for luck, a sprinkle of crumbled choc biscuits (I think they might have been oreos). Speaking to the girls at the checkout, they say customers have already been making requests for other toppings. I would like to add my plea for lychee, mango and some boba including popping boba. I was a very happy bunny, seated on one of their bar stools in the shop, watching customers getting to grips with swirling their own fro yo. I can also now see swirling contests as people try to achieve the perfect fro yo swirl in their tubs! In case you didn't get the gist of how much I'm excited about Yogland opening - YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
