Yay! My rush to get home after a yelper's event paid off. (I am SO sad) Anyways, this brand spanking new Gelato store right off Portabello Market is exactly what you need after a hard day vintage/ antique/ market shopping or post meat feast desserting. The restaurant itself was big and airy and I was sad to see on the website that there is an ice cream garden that we didn't notice on our visit. A small is £2.50, but it is smaller than other gelato shops in town. However, the ice cream is bursting with flavour so you don't feel cheated by the slightly underwhelming quantity... I had a dark chocolate (very rich) and yoghurt (mmm very refreshing and so much better than froyo) split and thank god I was the last to get ice cream and everyone was stuffed with their's, or else I would have ended up like Sam and having to get a second one to enjoy for myself. I know the siren call of a gelato stand well and I will not let you be drawn into my ice-cream addicted hell! Such a great selection here from the traditional to the interesting. We oohed and aahhed over bourbon vanilla and then the wonder that was mango and raspberry. The flavours are so amazing with real depth and a small is just too small! Plus they have lots of little Italian cookies for about 50p each that you could get crumbled on top.... no, no just stop it! Gelato was good, very creamy and rich...but it was 2.90 pounds for one scoop and it wasn't even a big scoop also the cups bottom was lifted up so it appeared a lot but actually didn't have a lot! I came here for the free wifi. I guess it's not free since I had to buy gelato. It was a treat though, big cafe and good gelato. read more

Hmm, what can I say about Gelato Mio? How about wonderful, magnificent, terrific, phenomenal, and fan- FREAKIN-tastic? Paciugo? Ha! I scoff at your so called "gelato". Enter Gelato Mio and you enter a world of light, fluffy, flavor filled, REAL gelato that will make you forget where you are (literally, the walls disappeared around me as I ate my gelato). The place was bustling each time we walked by (we visited Notting Hill on two separate days). It's a cute store front shop with additional seating downstairs. I got two flavors, mango and pistachio, and my friend got the peach and nocciola (hazelnut) gelati. Forget the mango and peach. The nocciola and pistachio are hands down the best! Especially the nocciola. I probably sampled more of that than I should have from my friend. I'm sure if I ever go to Italy, I'll be even more blown away by their gelato, but in London at least, it's a little piece of Italia. The crowds of fellow gelato eaters make it exciting to be there, and I got a "Ciao bella" from the cute worker as we left, so that was nice. :) If you ever find yourself on Portobello Road, this is a MUST stop. It was snowing in London yesterday (for a very short while), but it's always gelato weather for me, so when the craving kicked in and I just happened to be passing by Gelato Mio, I just had to go in! But what a drastic change in atmosphere from my visit to the gelateria in the summer! The place was empty and the containers of icy yumminess nearly untouched. I guess most people don't do gelato in freezing weather conditions. The italian guy that served me insisted I try more than a couple of flavours before choosing my scoop, so I did. Eventually, I chose the yoghurt based blueberry gelato, which was refreshing and very tasty. I think I'll have the the pear and ginger sorbet next time, or perhaps the caffe gelato and of course I'll have to have a scoop of the pistachio. I'm a midlands gal, so I'm used to paying less for gelato, so I found the prices here a little higher than average. One scoop will cost you £2.50. The gelato is good but not the best I've had! I ate my gelato whilst I walked to the station, but if I'd had company, I would definitely have eaten inside, unless it hadn't been snowing. Gelatio Mio has typical gelateria seating on the shop floor, but the basement is a real surprise. The black furniture and leather seating, the fireplace(unlit) and exposed brick work gives it the ambience of a bar. read more

Gelato Mio's product was good - I know this because I came here straight from the UYE at Rodizio Rico when I had stuffed myself silly on meat. However, a short walk down Pembridge Road and Gelato Mio's friendly orange facade drew the Yelp Bayswater Bunch (like the Brady Bunch but slightly less wholesome!) in. We were reinforced by Chieh T, who was tempted by gelato but not meat! I don't think I succumbed to peer pressure by getting a small tub of strawberry and melon but I was glad I did. Packed full of fruit flavour, it was a cooling and not too filling end to the meal. At £2.50 for the small tub, it's on the higher end of average but the ambiance is nice and there's even a small area of outdoor seating. read more

I hadn't heard of this place before, but I had just the other night been discussing with Linzi about how I wanted to visit some of the wonderful London ice cream stores I had heard so much about. Whilst, as far as I'm aware, this place is new, I feel like I have finally been initiated. As mentioned by Vicky, I ended up having two tubs - it was just that nice! And to think I had, moments before, felt like I could never eat again. Just looking at the ice cream tubs had me urging my stomache on to make space. And oooohhh boy, did it! With two helpings of Strawberry Sorbet and Coconut ice cream, I was very much in love. Whilst a little more pricey than hoped, it really felt worth it for the great flavours! The little coffee-shop-esque "buy 10 get a scoop free" loyalty card felt like a nice touch, even if it is rather small in the long run, compared to a marginal price decrease. I liked the person who served me the second time, however, for a nice little smile to her as I ordered, and my portion was almost doubled that of the identical one I'd had before - and she was still more than happy to stamp another one on the loyalty card we had not-so-discreetly been passing amongst us. I came here for some gelato with an Italian friend after visting the Portobello Market. Now I do confess I am an ice cream and gelato snob and to put it simply: this was just frozen gelato, not done fresh and soft as you would find in Italy and Spain etc. But I was prepared for this and still went ahead and ordered. My Italian friend disliked his gelato but that was kind of to be expected. I would give mine a 5/10 but would agree it would be hard to find one better in London. My major problem with this place was the toilet. It was absolutely filthy. One star for serving Illy coffee which I ordered on my way out. read more

I'm gonna give it to you straight: In my opinion it's better than scoop! The flavours actually taste like the real thing, strawberries taste like strawberries, the snosberries taste like snosberries! Their yogurt one is Amazing and they let you sample the treats and delights before you commit to your £2.50 mini tub - the perfect size might add! The only thing that brings this place down is how clear the area is, the staff just look after it and almost all the tables needed clearing when we arrived yet the place was almost empty. Lovely gelato! I went twice today as I had to compare sorbets with dairy ices! I tried mango and peach sorbets. Later on I tried the the chocolate and hazelnut combo. I thought both were rich and tasted of good quality ingredients. But I think I may have to come back and try the other flavours. Do sit at the breakfast style bar near the big picture window and watch the crowds look on in envy as you enjoy your gelato! But I suggest you don't order a small one as you only want more. read more

So the gelato isn't as pretty as Amorino in Soho but it certainly is equally as tasty. Plus free samplers before you try and quite an adorable seating area if you venture downstairs. It's a bit sticky but it's great for a quick rest. (One point off for sticky seats and tables. and also for not being as pretty as a rose!) Either way, I'M WELL JEALOUS of notting hill residents. Bubble tea places and gelato places?! RIGHT next to each other too! it's like a mini soho but in a less urban area. Also, they ran out of small sized cups, but the nice lady behind the counter still charged us with a small even though she used a medium size and FILLED it to the brim with delicioso gelato! Who doesn't love this place? I probably heard Gelato Mio mentioned in conversation over 10 times before I finally decided to give this place a try. I got their yogurt flavour along with their limone flavour. It was perfect. The lemon and yogurt pair fantastically together and I couldn't have been more pleased. Their hot chocolate is very VERY rich and super intense. It was delicious, but I couldn't finish it. Especially after I had downed my gelato. In fact, three people couldn't finish it. Oh man. Surprisingly, given the apparent flood of people in here, no doubt hungry after a long day of antique and vintage shopping, there seemed to be ample seating. By this, I mean our party of five quickly picked up a clean table. And I didn't feel cramped. The interior was overall clean and cheerful for a rainy day. While I appreciated the wall decorations (and I'm not inviting anyone to look for it), there is a misspelling on one of the poster boards. Little things like that irk me... On the downside, there is a single bathroom for both ladies and gents, with a line that was about ten people long. The bathroom didn't have toilet paper either. Ick. Otherwise a pleasant experience I'd repeat again in the near future. read more

Amazing ice cream probably the best I have experienced in london. What makes it special is that they do not use chemicals, for example other places that have pre made balls of ice cream on display, need to use chemicals to achieve it. The 4 stars instead of 5 is because of an incident I recently had, if I had not been going there for a long time and this was my only visit, I would have given it 1 star out of 5. A small child eating sorbet and there was a small piece of black rubber in it, this could have been very dangerous for a small child. On bringing it to the attention of a staff member, they said it could be from when their ice cream comes off a van that there are rubber seals on it. However it was said in a matter of fact way, that by buying their ice cream, it is part of what they do, so a risk the customer takes. So basically by buying the ice cream for a small child, it is a risk that they may swallow the rubber and die. I had to push even get an apology, by saying how serious could be and then she apologised. I recommended that she tell the management, all she would do is say that i could submit a message to their website. She would not pass it to management herself. I said that would be a bit fiddly to learn their site on my phone, but i could put a review on yelp to tell the management, so that is what i am doing. read more

I generally try to avoid this stretch of road, because I kinda hate tourists. Yeah, it's mean. But seriously, how cool is Portobello Road Market? Not cool enough to wade through the sea of tourists it takes to get there from Notting Hill Gate tube station. Did I mention I used to work in tourism? Yeah, but that's neither here nor there... ...anyway, I finally managed to meander past on a quiet 'off-night'. And I was not disappointed to find very, very good gelato on my walk. A scoop of nocciola to share with the hubs, and it made me forget how much I dislike this part of Notting Hill. I dare say, it may even be worth crowd-surfing my way through the tourist hordes in the warmer months for this delightful sweet treat. read more

I love Gelato Mio... I wish they were cheaper! Well, actually, maybe if they were cheaper I would be eating their gelato every single day because I use to pass by quite a lot, and then I would end up spending more than now. Their gelato is one of the best in London, with a big variety of flavours available, that change seasonally. From the last ones I tried (kiwi & banana sorbet, soya hazelnut, caipirinha), the kiwi & banana sorbet was amazing, but the soya hazelnut was a bit bland. Staff is not the best, that's true, and as other reviewers, I don't like the decor either. That's why I gave 4 stars, they are entirely earned by the gelato. read more

Love this place. Staff were great and the food was delicious. I also love 'Cafe Ricos' which is a short distance away. But for food, this is the place to go. Be sure to have a belly full of food! :) You won't be dissapointed! read more

My mum and I dropped in for a snack and we sampled some gelato, all of which we enjoyed! The lady helping us even offered us some to try which was nice, I usually feel awkward when asking for samples as the servers often look exasperated! My mum went for the Baccho which tastes like Ferrero Roche, and I had the amerena which is cherry and vanilla, both with waffles. The waffles were slightly caramelised on the outside but not overly sweet. We found that they weren't soft enough and a little firm (but not chewy!) Overall, we were pleased! The waffles weren't my fave but the gelato is definitely worth it. read more

The best ice cream I've tasted in London : ) All the flavours I've tried - chocolate, strawberry, straciatella, bacio, pistacchio, caffè, mango - have been as good or better than a fine gelateria in Italy might offer. Worth a bicycle trip across London to try it! Also be aware that they offer a loyalty card stamp program that produces a free ice cream after 10 purchases. Absolutely amazing Gelato. They use real ingredients in their Gelato and sorbet and it really shows. Funny, after eating years of fake flavorings from the market, I never really thought that mint ice cream should actually taste like the herb! The 1 star is for the ice cream, the coffee and service are a joke. How they can be Italian and serve the muck they call coffee ill never know. It seems obvious to me why they have a coffee shop in London because they would've been hounded out of Italy if they tried to sell this crap there. A small Americano served in a bucket with only 1 shot of coffee in it, what is this Starbucks? Actually Starbucks dont take 15mins to make 2 coffees so they're actually marginally preferable to this dump. Avoid it, seriously, slapdash service, a disgusting toilet and distinctly average gelato make this coffee and ice cream parlour a non entity. read more

summer finally came to london yesterday and we had an ice cream day!!! gelato mio first, and it was pretty good. they had lots of intersting flavours but i just stuck to vanilla. it was pretty good and was obviously good quality, very intense flavour but it was a little bit too soft and sticky, but that might have been because of the hot weather. bad points: far too expensive, £2.90 for a small cone, and not that generous. also the staff are downright horrible. very snooty and arrogant, and basically rude. maybe its normal in italy but in london i was quite surprised. but overall the ice cream saved this place from getting a bad review. read more
