Casa Infante - I'm glad the gelato was good, since the service was really not

When I went to Naples, I went to a dinner out with my fellow hostellers hosted by my hostel. Dinner…read morewas great, but we needed to end the evening with some gelato. Our hostel guide took us here for his favourite gelato in Naples. The reason this specific one is his favourite is because they have a pistacchiato apparently. Since our guide was a local Naples boy, I trusted him and got pistacchiato (along with some other flavours). Pistacchiato was like pistachio butter, it was smooth and a proper pistachio colour to it. I did not regret this choice. I loved pistacchiato so much, that I came back on my own a few days later. Well, I tried and realised that there are more than one Casa Infante in Naples. Except this was the only one that had pistacchiato. The staff were friendly and I dream of returning to Napoli and to Casa Infante for some pistacchiato. You need to Casa Infante to your list of places to visit when you're in Naples, if not for pistacchiato, then because they have so many other flavours to choose from, and they're all delicious!

Ehhh, I've been to better places. There was a lady feverishly cleaning and mopping the floor during…read morea very busy hour of the day. She let a few people in but yelled at us when we tried to come in (we were careful to not walk through the area where she was cleaning). So we came back out with our tails between our legs, while we politely waited for her to finish. She never did summon us back in, but then the other guy working raised his eyebrows and gave us a look like "what are you waiting for?" However, he seemed annoyed to have us in there too. Then when I went to pay with a 10 euro bill, he refused to take it, as there was a tiny rip on one side. My money was literally no good there. He was very mad at me. So I dug out a 20 instead to pay for my gelato. The gelato was pretty good, but the service kind of took away from that.

I had been looking all over Italy for my favorite dessert, zabaglione. Which sadly, I believe to be extinct. The zuppa inglese was the closest flavor I could find. I found this on one of my last days and it's closest to where I'm staying. 1 day left. I may go back in a couple of hours for a second cup. * The young ladies working here were the friendliest I've met in any shop in Naples.

I'm not a regular in Vomero so finding this gelateria is a plus. The basic flavors are wonderful…read more(i tried two: peach and almond) as are the more complex ones (i hate zuppa inglese but their zuppa inglese gelato is scrumptious). A must is their Regno delle Due Sicilie (Kingdom of Two Sicilies), a delicious mix made of pistachio with generous dollops of chocolate and other nuts. Yummy! They also have a wide selection for people who are lactose intolerant and vegans. All the fruit I've flavors are free of and animal derivatives and the dark chocolate gelato (fondente) is milk-free! If you are less health-conscious the make on the spot blends with your fav candies and chocolates, and more elaborate mixes with spatulas on a frozen plate that can include gelato for grow-ups! And of course crepes and waffles!

Just happened to walk by here and then after looking at the place on my map I saw that I had it…read moresaved because it had a good Pastiera. Unfortunately they were all out on the Sunday evening when we went so ended up getting a different dessert. It was a of giant cream puff with some creamy filling inside. It was perfectly sweet and the puff was also fairly nice. A nice late night treat split between 4 of us.

Dropped by on a Sunday morning around 9:30am, since I was in the area and recalled this name coming…read moreup as one of the spots that served single slices of pastiera, which is baked ricotta cheesecake* with wheat berries, flavored with orange essence and bits of candied fruit (orange in Scaturchio's case). Traditionally this is eaten during Easter time, though this bakery carries it off season too. Though I carried it around for several hours in my bag, the texture was still pretty good at the end of the day, moist, strong citrus in the flavor department. Lightly sweet and rich from the ricotta. The wheatberries add a slight chewiness to the texture. They also carry a variety of other traditional desserts like rhum baba, sfogliatelle riccia and frolla, zeppola di San Giuseppe, coda d'angostura (lobster tail), cannolo Siciliano and others. The shop isn't large, pasty displays on the right, register on the left. Seating outside in the open plaza across the walkway. Service was just ok, I wouldn't say it was stellar. The ladies at the counter seemed in frowning moods, not exactly welcoming. When I didn't know to insert cash into the machine to pay, she just pointed at it until I got the idea. *I'm unsure why no websites refer to it as cheesecake and instead call it a pie or dessert filled with a ricotta cheese mixture. It looks and tastes essentially like a type of cheesecake to me...the overwhelming ingredient is cheese. Feels kinda misleading to not classify it as such bc I was under the impression that there would be more crust as a pie, of which it barely had any.
