This bakery place is located in the old town area, and usually there's a line in front of the store. I've tried their BABÀ (the classic Babà wet with rum, best in town), CAPRESINA (lemon cake version, interesting taste), and SFOGLIATA RICCIA (pastry filled with fresh ricotta, semolina and candied fruit as tradition teaches, average taste). It costs around €10 per order, and their baba is a must try here.

Since the sfogliatelle was invented in the Campania region, we figured Naples would be a good place to try it at. Scaturchio had pretty great reviews so we decided to check it out. It was a Saturday at 6 pm and there was still a steady flow of customers coming in and out. You order and pay at the register, then bring the receipt to the counter to pick up the pastry (as it seems is the system for most cafes around here). We ordered a classic sfogliatella to share. The filling was good with a nice hint of lemon but a little too sweet. A good sfogliatella overall, but I felt it wasn't as light and airy as the one over at Caffe Gambrinus. It seemed like their more popular pastries were the babà - a type of rum cake, and the fiocco di neve - a cream-filled brioche. Still a solid sfogliatelle and makes for a good snack or dessert.

They've got one of the most famous places for coffee and pasticceria. Lines go out the door. Get there early to taste the freshest. Slightly more expensive and perhaps worth the extra cents. Their pastries were delicious! We chose to relax outside. The atmosphere was nice on a bright sunny morning, but their service wasn't good. Our order took too long and our server had an attitude. It seemed she couldn't take direction from her mentor. There were no greetings or smiles even after we thanked her. In general, for the reputation of a business and the cost of their specialties, plus to sit in their establishment's outdoor section, consumers expect a pleasant experience at minimum - especially for service. 4.5 stars - only for their pastries. Zero for service. Adding little extra for a great location.

Located at Piazza San Domenico Maggiore 19, Scaturchio has built its name on Ministeriale since 1905, but looking beyond the famous Chocolate coins one will additionally find a concise collection of Neapolitan sweets and savories offered alongside Coffee, Soft Drinks and Aperitifs. Well-blended into San Domenico Maggiore square, a century of history evident on the outside while Giovanni Scaturchio's original interior has undergone only small updates, guests will find themselves surrounded by temptations immediately upon entry, standing space available for perhaps six while al fresco seating is also available. Easily accessible from Montesanto Station, a situation that sees tourists and locals both making regular stops at Scaturchio, it is at a cost approximately 25% higher than other nearby Pasticceria that choices are presented, Focaccia fresh from the oven delicious in its simplicity while other toppings are also available. Cleansing the palate with the first of two Espresso shots, Water poured complimentary, Scaturchio's Sfogliatella are a little chunkier on the inside than those of Attanasio or Carraturo, while the famous Medallion with a Liqueur-Ganache Filling seems fairly basic in an era where artisan Chocolates are widely available. Finishing with a Baba au Rum, widely considered the best in Napoli, those favoring sweeter iterations will likely be surprised by up-front bitterness before the near-weightless Cake's Yeast and Sugar present mid-palate and slowly dissipate.

    Babà, moist and delicious!

We came to this pasticceria specifically to taste a babà. It's a rather small pastry shop without any tables inside, but that's ok, you'll enjoy your coffee (with a pastry while you're at it) the Italian way: at the bar. Babà is a traditional Neapolitan dessert, a bit airy almost like the consistency of an Italian fruitcake (or panettone) but more moist, sweeter and with a hint of rum. We ordered a large one which we shared between two people and had espresso to go along with it. Babà is a dessert that everyone should experience at least once while visiting Napoli.

Yum! I was recommended here by the hostel I stayed at with my friends, and so the first night in Napoli before heading to the amalfi coast, we tried coming around 9:30pm on a Thursday and didn't realize they were already closed :( So we came back on a Sunday around 4pm and we got to try their delicious pastries! I got their sfogliatella pastry with lemon and cherries on top; SO delicious! (2.2 euro) There was a hefty amount of ricotta cheese inside. I've tried a sfogliatella pastry in Florence, but the amount of ricotta cheese does not even compare. I also tried their strawberry-honey with milk gelato and it was yummy as well. 2 euro for one scoop in a cup or cone. They have a limited selection of gelato because I think they're more well-known for their pastries, but give it a go if you're craving it. I also had a bite of the baba (sponge cake soaked in rum) from a friend and it wasn't really my thing in general, but if you're curious about it (since that is what Napoli is known for, anyways), I would trust this place for having one of the best ones around. If none of these sound good, then I'm sure regardless if you come here, you'll find something that suits you!
