I was having computer trouble with my power plug not performing a proper charge to my computer, the only way to fix it was to send it off for a couple of weeks to Lenovo. I went to The Geeks at Work / Computer Tamers located in Boone on October 13th . They recommended that I purchase a computer from them. Then, they would simply take the hard drive out of my existing computer and install it into the computer they sold me and said it would work great! I informed them that I was genuinely concerned! I run a small business, and I cannot afford to be out of business for any length of time and I have had several bad experiences in the past with other computer people telling me not to worry about a thing. I told them again, "I have a bad feeling about this", and they once again reassured me. I asked if they needed any passwords or anything to back up my computer and the said no that won't be necessary. They completed the process of removing my hard drive from my existing computer and installing it in the one they sold to me. All in all, it took about 30 minutes, I left with both computers. This was a Friday evening and when I had gotten back to my office, I had discovered they sent me off with a truly terrible computer that was deathly slow, and the battery would hold a charge for one second. They didn't do any backups and they were unavailable that afternoon. I could not recover my information on Outlook. The owner, Mish, had disappeared on Friday and was unavailable all-day Monday. I talked to another computer company on Monday morning who tried to help me through and could not get it done for hours and hours. I was out of business for days because I work on Saturday as well! I went back there Monday afternoon 10-16-2023 when the other computer company could not help me, and nobody could give me recommendations...I was stuck! I had asked the computer tech at The Geeks at Work / Computer Tamers if we could just switch everything back to how it was. And I was told by him that it's not going to work, I asked that he do it anyway with nothing else to lose! The tech got the drive back in and configured things for about an hour or so and everything ended up working, thank goodness. I left the terrible computer there with the plug that same day, 10-16-2023. (They claim I did not return the plug) which is completely not true. That old computer would not work without the plug, and I handed the plug right to the tech on staff. I told the tech to refund the computer. It was returned the 2nd business day after purchase, and they should have made a full refund of the $493.99 I was charged, for what they put me through! No refund was made for anything...I called for the owner's multiple times over and over for weeks. Meanwhile I had a business to run! I left quite a lot of messages and texted, and they would not answer the phone and did not return any of my calls or money. I had to finally spend more of my time going back in their shop. The tech guy there was very rude, and raised his voice to me about a non-issue and the owners were not there. Afterward, the only response from The Geeks at Work / Computer Tamers was a bill dated 12-7-2023 telling me I owed them more money and the worst computer ever, would not be refunded, loading me with fraudulent bills for the very issues they caused. They are trying to charge me for "resolving issues with email accounts, and office - computer - Labor in store" The Geeks at Work / Computer Tamers are 100% at fault for all these issues! Why am I paying these people to fix a problem they caused? Not to mention I had to talk to two other computer companies in the area Nordic and Dougnet...great companies, by the way. I spent several hours with them to see if they could help me resolve the issues that The Geeks at Work / Computer Tamers had caused to no avail. What about my time and great frustration that I spent on this over the past few months, time with calls, travel, time out of business? Next stop is the Attorney general's office. I made at least 15 phone calls and never heard back from anybody at The Geeks at Work / Computer Tamers. Only until I went in there approximately the week before 12-7-2023. *EDITED after conversation with owner* Here is my story: I dropped my laptop off early August with a cracked screen. I paid for the diagnosis fee, the part, and the labor totaling somewhere around $410. I was told it would take 2-4 weeks to be fixed. I called after a month and was told that the part had not come in yet. They called me a week after that and told me that the part came in, but it was the wrong part. The new screen was installed, but was not a touch screen. They asked me if I wanted the laptop back with that screen. I told them no because I paid for a touch screen laptop. 2 weeks later I called again, the part was not there. I waited until mid December, called them and asked them what the deal was, and the screen still had not come in because it was not in stock. I asked for my laptop back and a full refund minus the diagnosis fee. They refused to give me the labor refund of $110 because they had to keep the laptop for four months, wait for the part come in stock, as well as install the incorrect screen and then take it off again. I picked up my laptop in the same condition I dropped it off in. I asked for the $250 refund and they told me they would give it to me via bank refund. It took until April, and a couple of reviews, to be able to get my money back. I appreciate that the owner called me, said there was a problem with the bank, and gave me a cash refund of $250. Overall, it was not a fun process to work with this company, and I will definitely not be going back. I took my four to five year old Dell Inspirion into the Geeks At Work. With a box of this age it grew EXTEMELY slow and the display was becoming choppy. I figured it was time for a replacement and made a purchase. In the interim my wife and I became accustomed to having two laptops in the home. The Dell became unmanageable and I began to shop around for its replacement. Just for giggles I asked the Geek Guys what, if anything was salvageable. They performed an assessment then explained their "Signature Care" program. What to do? Keep feeding hay to a dead horse or purchase another new laptop. Having had a prior relationship with "Geeks at Work", I had enough confidence to give their care program a shot. No exaggeration, my Dell is back to working as if it was new and maybe better. Extremely fast, all files in place, Office working properly, email accounts in order and on and on. The communication prior to and during repair was generous. Consultation after the repair was thorough. All in all the process took two days. I have been very satisfied with Geeks at Work. They helped me find a computer to suit my needs then loaded it with the software I needed. When the computer was ready for pick up, John sat down with me and went through everything I needed to know. He also helped me set up my email account and several other programs I needed. After getting the computer home, I had forgotten something he had said and was having trouble. I was also having difficulty opening a program. I absolutely loved the feature where Geeks at Work could connect with my computer while I was at home; John got the problem identified and fixed in no time. I dropped my laptop on my first night of my vacation. I work while on vacation. I cannot live without a computer. I contacted JON at Geeks at Work and they provided me with a reconditioned laptop and extracted all I needed from the broken laptop and loaded it on to the new computer. And they wouldn't take payment for their advice.
