Dear Mr ..
Further to our telephone conversation regarding your lost phone I would like to thank you for the extra information that you provided. This has really helped me in making a decision on your claim.
I have looked carefully at the details you provided and I am sorry to tell you that your claim has been unsuccessful.
The reason I have made this decision is because;
According to your claim, you left your handset in the exterior part of a motor vehicle. Unfortunately your policy does not extend cover to any equipment left on the exterior part of a motor vehicle.
Please refer to your policy terms and conditions for specific wording.
If you feel that you can provide additional information that has not already been considered, you can submit an appeal by replying to this email. Appeals must be made by the person named on the insurance document and we will respond within 3 working days.

my reply :
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your prompt response.
I understand that due to policy reasons, some situations are not covered by insurance. However, I would like to appeal and reaffirm my claim.
I did not lose my phone on the top of my vehicle. I lost it because someone stole it when it fell down. I am very well acquainted with the area and would have definitely noticed if I had I simply misplaced it.
Moreover, as I mentioned on the phone, I went to the police to report this theft. I have a police statement and reference number to substantiate this claim.
I placed my trust in your company and have been paying £14 per month for the last one and a half years even though there are much cheaper insurance covers elsewhere.
This is a very distressing situation for me. It would be utterly appalling and incredibly unfair if I am not entitled to insurance cover on a mere technicality such as this one.
I do not want to have to cancel my insurance cover with your company (£14 is a lot of money each month over a long period of time). However, I will do so if it is clearly not helping me in a situation such as this one.
I hope that my case will be given due consideration. Please do not hesitate to contact the Barking Police Department if you require further information and to verify that my case is genuine.
I apologize for any inconvenience and would like to thank you for your kind assistance in this matter.
Yours faithfully,
