Gates Mills Fitness has a bit of everything for anyone. Sounds to good to be true right? Well it…read moredoes have it all. I've trained at most of the gyms in NE Ohio once or twice, belonged to a few of the chains over the years as well, did the personal training thing here and there. Never found a fit. Back at the chain gym life was as expected, wanted to get drops a few pounds so I went to the gym, wanted to learn about nutrition so sent to a nutritionist from my doctors office. I was reading articles, following this persons ideas that persons ideas, nothing worked, mind you I'm 40 something, that's the upper end of 40 something as well. So I've had plenty of time to try new gyms, diets and fads. That nomadic journey even brought me into the Gates Mills Fitness when it first opened. I found a small, friendly, clean place to work out with the help of professional staff. Some cardio, some lifting, workout ever changing. The gym was small but it worked well, it was personal training that was affordable and comfortable. So as usual after a time I moved on to another fitness ad that I thought would finally be the trick to fitness, weight loss and an ever changing work out to look forward to. First stop at Gates Mills Fitness was just exercise. Anyway, to make a long story short I got an email (about a year after leaving the gym in hopes of some miracle elsewhere) advertising the Takedown Challenge offered by Gates Mills Fitness in cooperation with a kinda diet program, I use the term loosely, after years of starvation diets, yoyo diets and fads this is not a diet its a lifestyle and it works. Sounds like a gimmick huh? Well I'm not selling here, I'm Yelping so let the choice be yours as to where your journey takes you. Keep in mind this is not one of those programs that says eat boiled chicken breast and salad without dressing for two weeks, or boiled cabbage, yes boiled cabbage like that's a diet anyone wants, or the frozen meals that are ten times more expensive than the ones in the grocery store. This is real food, with real flavor, and even carbs. But this system works and its common sense when you think about it. So the email brought me back to Gates Mills Fitness and kept me focused. I was never hungry on the program, I had plenty of energy to workout. The program, information and plan certainly took some getting use to but once you are there its easy. I never knew it could be so easy. Easy it is, its all there in print right in front of you, GMF even provided me the binder to stay organized through my challenge. So diet, check. So lets fast forward to the almost a year of my return to Gates Mills Fitness, gym still clean, staff grew bit, still small compared to the chains but boy what a difference a year makes. I've lost fat, gained muscle, eat better, feel better and can move better. Ever have indigestion, if not wait it comes with age as do a few too many extra pounds, so I venture to the doctor and he says take this pill and check back in a month. Also had to visit the chiropractor before GMF, I think we all know how that goes, go once and they want to see you forever. Well I found out first hand stretching a bit before and after a workout can change the way your back feels too. No more lower back pain. Between the Takedown Challenge lifestyle eating program and the always changing exercise programs indigestion gone, those extra pounds gone, muscle tone up, inches off my legs, midsection, I can see the dimples I thought I lost in the aging process, wasn't the aging process, it was the fat. So you might think I only eat kale, spinach and chicken breast right seven days a week right and spend three hours a day in the gym right? No, I eat a bit of everything on the Challenge plan. I look forward going to the gym, I enjoy the workouts (remember I said ever changing), the menus and recipes offered. One interesting note is food tastes better, yes this program renewed my taste buds too. I know this all sounds like a 3AM infomercial but as someone whose been on too many diets, trained at too many gyms I can tell you stop looking, what you need is at GMF. Gates Mills Fitness has the exercise, the diet and the massage therapist all under one roof. It's affordable, flexible, friendly, not intimidating, and accessible. If you're one of those people in search of the right program I can tell you this is it. I'm not the only one either there a long list of clients in the same situation that have gotten healthy. I did not rush, I did not suffer, I just followed the advice staff at GMF. It worked, I feel better, look better (another story too long for here but trust me people will see the difference in you), and I have GMF to thank. So if you are thinking about a new gym this is the one to try, forget the big guys, forget going to three or four different places to get a healthier you, GMF put it all together for you. Finally a gym ad that worked check, check & check.

Wish I was at King's gym right now, but instead I am stuck in Maui. That should say it all. All the "people" are here, every race and creed, hard working people from laborers to white collar professionals, retirees to homemakers, teenage athletes to teenage wallflowers. All the "goals" are here, bodybuilding or powerlifting, boxing or sports specific, group classes and cardio, injury prevention or mental balance, weekend warriors or general wellness, clients with trainers for something specific or clients with trainers who like to torture their trainer for their entire lives... The equipment deserves mention, as they are the most balanced machines ever. They maintain the equipment to perfect working order, whether it is an antique relic or a brand new chinamade machine. You will be hardpressed to find something that isn't here. Top level athletes have all they need too. King's gym has a unique vibe without forcing it. The feel of King's gym is an organic phenomena that many have tried to sort out. It is unpretentious. There is a very hardworking population that is amongst this crowd, as well as folks who are serious about their gym goals. If you see someone frowning and looking rough, almost always are those the people who will light up with gentleness and laugher if you strike a conversation with them. Problems are immediately mitigated here. If there is a situation that is a threat, it is quickly irradicated. In 22 years of training here, I have seen maybe 2 issues. They were eliminated so quickly you couldn't believe it. The owners are family oriented, clean, folk. Very approachable, and straight with you. if you are humble enough, you could even learn powerful lessons from them, as they are coaches. God bless King's gym and all its staff and members. Amen
