I need to update my review because the store has changed quite noticeably over the past 12+ months. The workers are less engaging with customers, less knowledgeable on their products and less friendly. It's nearly impossible to get someone to provide a sample and I can't tell if that's a strategy to avoid sampling because they always have employees working and standing. I've asked multiple times to be told no on sampling and looked at like I'm bothering them. I used to love the store pics but it appears they are doubling down on Indiana distilleries vs sourcing Kentucky distilleries and national distilleries. They do have some old store pics that are slow moving because of the price point. If you're looking for a higher volume bourbon go to Meijer across the street and save $10-$20 a bottle. This is now a novelty store with high price points that now fails to deliver on its value as an experience. read more

Gay's Hops-N-Schnapps - Truth! Ride the Buffalo! - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Angola, Indiana

Stopped in this store @ 8:30 last night in search of chilled white wine. As the store is large, I asked where I could find what I was looking for and was directed to a very small selection that included 2 bottles of champagne and 4 bottles of prosecco. Not white wine. Then I chose a bottle of room temp white wine and proceeded to the counter. The clerk was SO incredibly rude when I mentioned that the selection of chilled wine was all red. She proceeded to inform me that the red wine was at the recommended temperature then looked at the other clerk and said "Here is another one for you." She walked away from the register. Really lady? These people were so rude. Three employees standing around doing nothing and, even though my husband and I were literally the only customers in the entire store, they wouldn't help us. I asked if we could try a tequila they had open in their tasting area and literally before I even finished my sentence this nasty woman said "no". The kid behind the counter just looked at me like he didn't know what to do. I get it, I'd your busy and can't do tastings (as advertised) politely say so but this was just lazy, rude employees. Enjoy going to this Angola store. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They have a great selection and always have items on sale. Different than Michigan where the state sets the price on booze. They even offered me a job however my wife vetoed that idea. Employees get a discount however she felt that was a bad idea. She is so smart. read more

Even in a state like Indiana they like to drink and fortunately when you are there you have the opportunity to purchase all of your spirits at Gay's Hops-N-Schapps. This chain has everything you would want to get happy in a liquid form. From beer and wine to whiskey and tequilla, they have something that will do the job for ya. Gays is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and if you are not careful could give you a miserable morning. They keep their stores clean and they are well organized. Their staff is quite familar with their inventory, they know where everything is located, and they are able to make recomendations off their own preferences, pairings with what you request them for, and for things that will help you make a great impression. Their employees greet you when you come in, answer all your questions, work fast, and get you in and out quick. In all seriousness Gay's are a great chain. They have all of your standard brews and a wide range of craft beers and ales as well as a wide range of spirits that will rival anything you will find in the big city. read more

Good selection all around here- The usual liquors and spirits, the beer you'll find anywhere, but also a good amount of craft and other specialty beers. Really the only store to go in Angola where you'll find a good selection if you're looking to try out some new or different beers. They have a lot of fairly local brewery's selections here as well if you're looking to support smaller local breweries. read more

Went into the new Angola store. Nice looking store I will say, however the ladies in the store were not very welcoming or willing to help. Maybe because I was wearing a mask for COVID-19. Told them looking for gift. I was up visiting friends and wanted to give them a thank you. Asked where tequila was located and they said over there where tequila sign is. In very sarcastic tone. I found a store pick bottle so I asked them if they knew anything about the bottle. I'm a bourbon guy so not up on all the tequila. But I like buying store barrel picks. The ladies both said don't know we don't drink tequila. All spappy. I asked if they have herd from anyone about it? They said the store would not have picked the barrel to put the store name on it if it was not good. It's a nice new store and looks great but the prices are nothing special and as expensive or actually quite higher than prices in Indianapolis. I frequent a few in Indianapolis ( Rural Inn, Kahn's, Big Red) and the staff is always knowledgeable and helpful. I will prebuy my items in Indianapolis and haul them up to my next lake visit.
