Camp sounding Gays Arcade used to have me in stitches when I was a lad - because you know, Gay... It's so gay. It's actually named after a bloke called Patrick Gay, and back in the 1800's Gay didn't mean Gay like it does now... like, same sex attracted people (guys). Back then they would have been called "shirt lifters" or "Buggers" and I can't image having a coffee in a place called Buggers Arcade, it doesn't sound very welcoming. However Gays Arcade is welcoming, bright and just a little off the busy track of the main stream of the building - Adelaide Arcade. It has its own sense of style with the little history museum tucked away upstairs and the ground floor mainly taken up by a large cafe. Its a nice place to stop for a few minutes. read more
