The occasional transfer does put me through this terminal. From terminal 5, we had to have a little trek until we reach the shuttle bus downstairs. From there, it's a good few minutes till you arrival to terminal 3. There's a good amount of designer shops right when you get off the shuttle and starts walking through. They know how to get people's attention and what better way than amazing shopping. All your luxury high ends shops which is also at terminal 5. I don't remember what the food options are as I've never eaten here. But depending on what gate you're flying out, it can be a major trek. From our connection in this terminal. The gate that we were taking off was quite a ways. It's fine if you have enough time to walk and enjoy but when your flight arrives late and you only have a limited amount of time to get to the next gate. That can be a bit of a stress. Why is that some gates are so much further and other the ones that you alway get when you're in a rush... lol.... Terminal 3 is a pretty big area. If you have plenty of time, enjoy the shops or at least window shop.

I arrived significantly early because I needed to…read morespeak with baggage enquiries regarding my lost luggage (never arrived when I flew in from Belgrade to London 4 days prior). I tried calling the company responsible way too many times to count since the day after my luggage was promised to be delivered to me had passed, but no one ever picked up, and I was unable to leave a voicemail. I managed to find baggage enquiries at this terminal, but instead of being able to talk to someone, it was just a call box. I managed to speak to an employee who graciously took the time to escort me to an unauthorized office of the airport, so I can speak with the right person that could help me. This individual went above and beyond to try to locate my luggage. He was unable to due to no fault of his own (apparently the luggage system crashed at the airport the connecting airport in Belgrade). He took down my info along with my file reference number so he can pass this along, so my luggage could hopefully be shipped to me. He even gave me advice on what to do if it is not returned to me after a certain period of time. I wish I remembered the names of these two employees that went out of their way to help me. They made an anxious experience into a brighter one with their help. I'd also like to add that this was my sixth time flying into or out of Heathrow airport, and I always had a nice experience, thankfully.

I planned a well deserved vacation enroute back to Kenya from London, stealing an opportunity of a lifetime to visit and immerse myself in the African country of Seychelles. The Seychelles, in my opinion, is a close to a perfect tropical paradise as you can imagine, but I'll keep looking. My first leg of this journey was flying from Heathrow Airport to Doha aboard Qatar Airways, which is always a real pleasure.  A short two hour layover there, then off into the wild blue to Mahe Island, Seychelles.   We are staying at the Anantara Maia resort, an ocean front masterpiece of nature, beauty and tropical architecture. Being met by their transport vehicle complete with a cool minty fresh washcloth and cool tropical drink did add to my accolades for them,  even before setting eyes on their beautiful locale.  For those dreaming of locations such as fiji, while they are still on my list, shouldn't sleep on the Seychelles, one of the finest on the Indian Ocean. Succulent local fruits and veggies await thy palates (since going plant based, I can only attest to their veggies, fruits and they fed my sweet tooth well with intricate local pastries .  I had the privilege of 8 nights there, which still wasn't enough. I love how the Picadilly line drops me off directly at Terminal 5, although it took me a couple tries to get on board a train that stops at Terminal 5! The priority security is helpful for premium cabin passengers although the rules at the airport weren't clear. For example, I was scolded for wearing my belt while it seemed that liquids up to 2L were permitted?!? The walk and tram to the B gates is misleadingly quite far, probably a 15-20 minute walk/ride. Gone are the experiences of the 90's and that era of long lines in security and check in, long waits at baggage claim, tedious terminal transfer and traffic jams coming in and exiting. 1/29/26 - bright and happy staff at 5:50 am, immaculate and bright airport, team member standing outside the First Class Lounge welcoming and directing all, (great lounge btw with ample and spread out seating on very comfy sofas, great hot food, quality beverages and spotless bathrooms and showers); there is an ease in the air and happy folks around everywhere- the hospitality staff, the Boots, souvenir, Macallum, Rolex boutique members. There was a smooth flow despite the airport having a lot of delayed and cancelled flights coming in post storm in the US. The airport is easy to get around and there are info booths and the best part - there is an employee to assist literally every 100 feet. I also got to mail out some cards via a bright red Royal Mail box smack in the middle of Terminal 5. 5 Stars!

Arriving here was simple and going to the custom agent was fine. Baggage claim was simple and going to the parking structure was easy. The issue I had was when I came to leave London. My flight was a morning flight at 6am so I arrived early at 3am to check in my bag with Lufthansa airline. But they don't open the baggage check in until 5am. So I had to line up because everyone was waiting and the line started extending. Once the bags were checked in, we now had to wait for TSA to open and that had a line. Then I had to take the long walk to get to my departing gate. The waiting area at the departing gate did not have a power outlet to charge your phone.

I then go to my first non-North American, and my first British / London / Heathrow Airport / across-the-pond toilet (on land of course) and it's full of the brown stuff. It spells "Welcome to Londinium". There is a button on the wall but it's too high to press using my foot so i go to another stall (i'm a germaphobe nowadays, the less i touch germs the better, i feel). Stalls go down all the way to the bottom for more privacy but urinals have no privacy. I like no privacy at urinals. I like the extra space. I go to a second stall hoping to find a cleaner toilet. No brown stuff but lots of white stuff. By white stuff i mean toilet paper and hardly any water. I decide to flush. I can't keep going from stall to stall. Is this a British thing not to flush? Am i already learning about the culture? Or is this the exception not the rule? I then go to my flush my first non-North American / British / London / Heathrow Airport / across-the-pond toilet (on land of course) and it fills with water but doesn't flush. This is my only experience in my life flushing a British toilet. I don't know, is this normal? Is it always like this? Usually like this? Sometimes like this? To find our next gate we have to go through security again, and they make us put a ticket on our bags to potentially check them on the next plane. I'm not a fan, but they say it's required. (Luckily the plane ends up being big enough so we don't have to check them.) I see a middle aged couple both with googly eyes. You know the googly eyes you buy at a store and use for crafts? It looked just like that. I see they have a daughter - probably teen or in her early 20's. I'm hoping to get a good look at her eyes. With genes like that they are either really f-cked up or normal. Luckily for the gal they are normal. Kind of boring actually. The online boarding pass says we are in Terminal A but not which gate, and at some point we find out they won't show it on the airport screens until right before we board. And we have to go through security again. At security there is barely a line. The security guard, a younger Ethiopian looking man with a British accent says he needs to check my back pocket. No one else around me is getting checked and i have nothing in my back pocket. He must just want to touch my flat butt (just another typical Ethiopian with a flat butt fetish). After the (probably) gay man touches me unnecessarily a separate lady with a hijab on her head says she wants to check my bag for one of my liquids. She grabs a small almost empty container of lotion from the very bottom of my bag. It all seems a little ridiculous and maybe targeted but who knows. They test the liquid in some machine. Probably making i don't bring in fluoride (you know, because they have messed up teeth here). I've only been through security twice in a foreign country (Mexico and England) and both places searched me and my stuff unnecessarily while searching no one else around me. Both times making me repack my suitcase. So far (besides the toilet - and that can happen in America too of course) it doesn't really seem much different than an airport in the U.S. There's of course a Starbucks too. Mostly white people, with some black and asian people, except they speak in a British accent and speak of "pounds" instead of "dollars" (i prefer the word "pounds" to "dollars", partly because pounds sounds more masculine). Maybe a few other nationalities too of course. Maybe a few less obese people. Okay a lot less obese people, especially compared to Portland in 2026. I search out and find the one seat in the airport without an armrest (someone must've broken it) so i can somewhat lie down and take a nap on two chairs that are next to each other, instead of sitting upright in one chair. Normally i find some gross carpet to sleep on but there was none around and the hard floor seemed too... well... hard. So i got in my two seater seat and slept about an hour total in the span of about 2 hours, but probably no more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time. I somehow woke up in more pain than i was in before just in time to find out what gate we were at. B33 - we had earlier taken a shuttle from B to get to A (as that's what we were told) not to mention a lot of walking (not complaining about the walking, but it was all time consuming). A weird system to let us know last minute, but it all worked out. The Fifteen Year Old said she saw a red double decker bus out the window at the airport but i missed it. I see my first Down Syndrome person in Europe / in a continent outside of North America today. Big day for me.

The only issue I experience here was the check in desk was not open until like an hour before my departure. Then the walk from the baggage drop off and security was far.

The Gatwick Express train option made things easier for us, and the security lines and boarding process was fine and as expected. They have the new security scanning equipment which supposedly allows you to carry 1 liter of liquid in your carry on which is a great improvement. I wouldn't hesitate using Gatwick. I wonder if you can avoid the London Heathrow luxury tax/fee when flying out of Heathrow in premium class which is significant.

This is the second UK airport that I have been in and they stressed me out to no end. They are so strict with liquids. It's ridiculous. You're literally the only country that's still a pain in the ass about it. Thankfully, I was offered a free check-in pack. First off you should always arrive three hours early for international. My drive to the airport was an hour and a half and you never know with traffic especially early in the morning and it's here in the week if it's rush-hour shit show or not. So we left a little early just in case. So technically, I am now four hours early until my flight takes off. You are not able to check in at the counter until it's three hours before beforehand so I am literally standing there for an hour. An hour goes by. I'm the first one in line and nobody came. 30 minutes later as assembly finally shows up there another 10 minutes later another person shows up and then another 10 minutes later we have another person. Everything is great no issues. I walk to the gates and I am greeted with Shopping galore. There's two floors of option. My ticket does not supply the basic information like what gate you're at. I read the screen and it told me that they will not supply the gate until 10:45 AM. I'm pretty sure that was literally an hour away. Just to be clear according to the tickets they start boarding at 11:15. They really don't like people conjugating around the gates, which makes sense considering the shit show in the US airports. If you wanna work on having an anxiety at airports, then this is the place to go. It tells you what time both the love of God I could not stop looking at it every 5 to 10 minutes. I literally walked around upstairs downstairs stressed out. I am not a fan of the UK airports by any way shape or form. But these are there options. There are plenty of restaurants, sundry stores, and newsstands too. This airport is fast, convenient, clean, and relaxed. Double highly recommend.
