This is the only way to get into London. A Taxi all the way into town is crazy expensive. Taking the Tube is nuts when you have luggage. Taking the train into town and getting a Taxi from Paddington works well for me -- even working over near the square mile. The trains are clean. The run on a good schedule. Even though you won't be on it for that long, the power jacks are handy to have. The Internet works well. The seats are comfortable. I can't think of any real flaws. They even have excellent striping and signage to get you where you want to be at the Airport and Paddington. read more

I took the Heathrow Express from Heathrow Airport to Paddington Station and I didn't have any issues. The train feels safe, new, and clean. I didn't really have anyone in my car, so nobody really bothered me. I wish most trains were like this in the U.S. It is quite expensive though (about 20 pounds or so, or about $35 USD) to get into the heart of London. I guess that's just how it is here. read more

The proximity of Paddington and ease of connection via circle line to my destination made flying to heathrow a better option otherwise I would have went for London City Airport. As others have said the express will get you to the city in 15 min and the service is reliable. The only downside here is the cost, assuming you but the ticket 7 days in advance then you are looking at a 55euro return based on Nov 2011 exchange rate. So the service may be fast but you are certainly paying for it. read more

Ridiculously over priced at 15 quid a journey. It is only helpful if you are going to or continuing your journey from Paddington train station. I can take the Piccadilly line to Kings cross faster than going the Express to Paddington and over to Kings cross or any other National rail train station (other than paddington of course.) The reason is waiting for the express train can be ten minutes, changing at Paddington and waiting for your tube train.. another 15 minutes at an average pace. bleh. If you have to go more than 5 stops from Paddington tube, it is pointless. Yes it is nice inside, and roomy, and clean, and tons of place for bags. There is soothing music and tv.. but yeah. For something that is only sometimes faster, it is not worth the price of about 11 pounds more, to be arriving at your destination within about 10 minutes of another transportation service. And they offer first class!! can you beleive it? why? You will prolly be getting on the tube afterwards on a tube line that is not built for luggage and crowded (the piccadilly tube line from Heathrow has places for baggage.) If you are taking first class on the Heathrow express, you should just take a cab or a limo.. or your airline can provide you a limo if you are in first class maybe anything! Sorry. I am ranting. Bizarrely time-consuming when travelling from Heathrow into Paddington; very expensive ( as noted by other reviewers), and not always either quiet or with spare seats at peak times. I'd suggest that, in the event your onward travel takes you into central London or another rail terminus, consider taking the tube instead, as Paddington is not the easiest station to travel on from. read more

Ok, the Heathrow Express is expensive - indeed at about £15 quid each way it can cost you more than your flight! However, has anyone taken the alternative route? Do you not remember having to get up at about 3am to get a 10am flight from Heathrow, because you had to take the Piccadilly line - a trip so long you can see people visibly age during it? So it's your usual pay off here between time and money. If you haven't got an Oyster it's going to cost you £4 on the tube each way and take about an hour if you went from Paddington to Heathrow - and way more than that if you are in North, South or East London. Add to that the fact that the Heathrow Express is built for people travelling with bags - as opposed to the tube and the convenience and speed surely mean it's worthwhile? Oh and finally it's a lot nicer to travel in than the dear old tube as well as it has been cleaned that day as opposed to given a rub down in 1963 read more

As other reviews testify, the main problem with the Heathrow Express is the price. Boy oh boy is it expensive. The main perk, conversely, is speed and comfort. However, I feel the need to highlight one other teeth-gritting factor. The new Terminal 5 has become the terminus of all Heathrow Express Trains. So, trains leave from Paddington Station every 15 minutes, stop at Heathrow Central (for terminals 1, 2, and 3), then go on to 5. Even someone as dire as maths as myself can play spot the missing number with this one. If you're travelling to Terminal 4, you have to get off the Express at Heathrow Central and wait for the next Heathrow Connect service. Heathrow Connect is a stopping train which also goes from Paddington every half an hour, stopping along the way, then calls at Heathrow Central and Terminal 4. A Heathrow Connect ticket is around £7. The last time I travelled to T4, the Heathrow Connect train I picked onto had left Paddington c. 10 minutes after my Heathrow Express train; and I waited for c. 10 minutes at Heathrow Central to get it. So the moral of the story is: if your flight goes from T4, it's not generally worth getting the Heathrow Express, because you'll have to wait for the next Connect service to turn up anyhow to get to your terminal, and paid £8 extra for the privilege! read more

I have had nothing but positive experiences. As a lone traveller with my luggage and having to get around everywhere it was an absolute pleasure to take. I travelled in by FGW, switched platforms and in 15min I was in Heathrow. I can understand those who are living in London or aren't alone might feel it is pricy but as a love traveller coming in from out of town it was a joy. The train has been reliable, fast, clean and there's plenty of space for luggage. There are enough seats for everyone and more and the seats are new and comfortable. This is a very good service with comfortable and clean trains that are far better than the cramped tube carriages on the Piccadilly Line. Unfortunately it's expensive and, depending on your destination in London, often verging on useless. This only really serves people living in the north and north-west of London - Londoners from other parts of the city have little alternative but to take the Piccadilly Line. As somebody who lives within a ten minute taxi journey of Paddington Station I find this useful for getting to Heathrow but if I needed a connecting tube to get home I doubt I'd use it. Best used if you're a business traveller on an expense account and so don't care about the price. For the price conscious a more affordable alternative is Heathrow Connect which is cheaper but not significantly slower. read more

High-speed non-stop train between Paddington station and Heathrow. Very expensive, but very nice. Lots of room for bags, very clean and comfortable carriages, too. Between 15 and 20 minutes are you're at one end of the line or the other. Very efficient if you're (a) travelling alone and (b) arriving/departing anywhere near Paddington. If there are a few people it really becomes expensive (~£15 each). And if you've got a long tube/bus journey to get to Paddington anyway, then you might be better served by the Tube anyhow. Poor service. After waiting for over 2 hours for a delayed plane I ran to the train past countless broken ground escalator things to see the wait is 15 minutes. The trip itself was 15 mins as well but the ttotal time of the whole affair probably elapsed to about 40 due to the absurd distance which had to be walked to get there. On the train there were terrible delays not really the fault of the system but took away from the experience nevertheless. The price wasn't cheap either. Cheapest adult ticket was £22! For a trip supposed to be fast and easy it certainly was not worth the time or money. Apparently there was Wi-Fi which was only told to us at the end of the journey read more

Yes, the trains are fast. The problem is the cost, like all the other reviews have pointed out - now £16.50 very pricey! I've only travelled on the Heathrow Express when the tube line was being refurbished on the weekend a year or two ago, which resulted in free travel there. I took me 30min stepping out of the plane and go to the Express train and the most time I spent queing for passport control. When the Heathrow Express launched back in 1998 it was expensive, but still just about affordable. I recall using the train when children travelled free with an accompanying adult, which offset the fact you knew you were paying a premium fare for the service. However over time any good deals such as this have slowly been removed and the price has just continued to creep upwards to the current fare of £16.50 for a single journey in standard class and the utterly ludicrous £26 for a one way trip in First Class. I might add that given the journey time is a maximum of 21 minutes, I have never seen anyone in First Class. The trains leave Paddington station every 15 minutes and I have to say they are lovely trains - spacious and clean and given the price, you are usually guaranteed a seat. There is a station serving Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and another station serving Terminal 5. Passengers wishing to go to Terminal 4 need to use the slower Heathrow Connect service which takes 25 minutes and does call at some stations en route. However this is a cheaper option at £6.90 one way. The only really positive thing I can say about Heathrow Express fares is the fact you can get your Railcard discount on them but even then you have to go to a ticket office to purchase your discounted ticket as they are not available on the train. I would only recommend you use Heathrow Express if you are really in a hurry! read more

I travel to London frequently and use the Heathrow Express when I'm travelling for work - as I don't have to pay for it. However when I go down for leisure, I won't use it as I resent greatly paying over £16 for a 20 minute journey. I usually fly with BMI and they sell tickets at a slightly reduced fare, but even using them you're only like to save a couple of pounds at most. The trains are fast and usually reliable, though I have had a scary moment when I thought I was going to miss my flight due to a breakdown. But I fail to see how that justifies the high prices. In these tight times I think they will struggle for business, though I guess they have a capitive market with business travellers. The short journey time will however always be attractive to people who need to be at Heathrow in a hurry - you can't drive there as quickly as the trains get you there. But I still find it hard to justify the high price they charge. read more

I use this train every time I use Heathrow Airport. There is good signs and noticeable personnel to sell you a ticket and explain how it works. My first time going to London a ticket talker explained that the train is a shuttle to Paddington station. The ride is a quick 15 minutes and the trains have free WiFi. The cost is very good and I think the trains leave every 15 minutes. The trains are clean, quiet, and very well lit. The seats are comfortable. read more

I like the Heathrow Express for its speed and convenience to my place. Nothing beats getting from Heathrow to home in under 30 minutes. However, I think about 1/4 times I've been on it, it has had some sort of issue that made the ride about 25-30 minutes, which really takes away from the value. I feel they should really offer at least a partial refund in those cases. At one point, I was taking HEX so often that I bought myself a carnet of 12 rides online to get the reduced price so that I could print out my ticket at home. However, to my dismay, the bar code image in the email went away after about two months and I was left with an email with a broken image! Luckily, customer service was smart enough to reissue my carnet without any hassle. What was silly, however, is that he told me the image would be broken again soon, so he told me to either keep my printout around for the remainder of my rides (unlikely) or print out X number of copies of the email to keep around (more unlikely). I think next time, I'm going the mobile route. D'oh! read more

A journey that will take you closer to an hour is reduced to just 15 minutes on this service, which is not too busy and has plenty of space for your luggage. Ticket prices are £16 one way, whilst the underground can get you there for about a quarter of that price. It's the most expensive train service from central London to Heathrow but for your money you get a fast reliable service which runs every 15 minutes and has helpful onboard staff. As a frequent traveller, I use Heathrow express on a weekly basis. This is the fastest, most connvenient way to travel in/out of central London. However, I find the fares too pricey as compared to similar network of transportation provided by our neighbour countries (Spain, France, Germany). The Heathrow Express is a great concept don't get me wrong. But why oh why is it SO expensive? The tourists might not know any better and some locals might have more money than sense, but I'd much rather get the Tube which is or at least seems a horribly long journey into central London with all the stops but at least it's not that extortionate. A truly atrocious service considering the price you pay. At £18 for a 15 minute journey I would have expected decent leg room, a foot-rest, complimentary beverage, reclining seats and audio system on board (try travelling on economy class in Finland's national railway to see what I mean for the latter two). There was none of the above. The carriages are of average comfort compared to a Virgin or First Great Western carriage. Also, the announcements on board and at Heathrow are only in English. There should be pre-recorded announcements for foreigners (this is already in place on the Gatwick Express). read more

This is extremely expensive for which you get, it's either 15 or 30 minutes though i cant remember, there are trains every 15 minutes and over fifteen glorious british pounds is not cheap by any means. There is music on board and TV screens and tables and good seats but still, honestly, fifteen quid, no way, if I wasnt running so late I would have taken heathrow connect - on board is great but that never cancels out how much this premiums service costs. It's fast, its flexible and it does go to T5 directly too. For a family, no way - for an individual maybe. read more

this train is like the London property market circa 2006. the price keeps going up, so ride it now while you can still just about afford it! if you need to get from Heathrow to Paddington, its probably your best option. budget folk should consider the tube - 70 minutes instead of 12. Yes the Heathrow Express is a bit of a dream journey. Its one of those trains where you'll get a comfortable seat (ticket doesn't always = seat on london trains) enough space to put your luggage rather than struggle with it, tripping other customers up. If money is no option I would take this train every time. And it's damn quick. However it is just so so expensive. Hell, welcome to London. I would suggest that unless you are really running late, or you dont mind spending all that dosh on a 20 odd minute ride, then you would be better placed to do a bit of research and try and get to Heathrow using other types of cheaper london transport. read more
