I ordered three pieces from this company a couple years back. I honestly did not want to write this review until now because it was such an unprofessional experience that caused me stress, and I just wanted to block it from my memory for awhile. At the beginning, the husband and wife duo were very responsive and accommodating (I presume since they did not yet have my money). I was a little wary of spending so much for a company where all their instagram pictures were super saturated/filtered and had some bad reviews, but their initial customer service eased my doubts. Unfortunately things changed drastically after I sent my payments and received two of my three items (of which I never even received the third to date). Bed frame - the bed frame had a lot of problems and I escalated them, but a couple of the problems I chalked up to hand-made inconsistencies. The colors were nothing like the pictures; no where as vibrant even in my bedroom with a ton of natural light, most likely because of the filters I mentioned before. The coats of paint were not evenly or consistently applied and the boards had a lot of small spaces and chunks missing but I ignored these. My biggest complain was I paid extra for lamps on each side, but the light switch only controlled one of them so it had been wired incorrectly. I was essentially told that I accepted the items upon delivery so they would not fix it, especially since I lived so far, and this was upsetting after paying the price i did for a bed frame plus additional costly shipping fee for a third party to deliver and install. This was never fixed. Side tables - I received the second set of items I paid for and no complains about these. Custom mirror - I also paid hundreds of dollars for a custom mirror which I was told was not ready but would be delivered separately than my bed frame and side tables free of charge. I trusted the seller but weeks and weeks went by of me reminding them (never the other way around), and there were minimal updates with excuses about being so busy. This happened for about a year so it was apparent I was no longer anywhere on the priority list of clients. I eventually opened up a BBB case against them since it was obvious I was not getting my lamps fixed nor was I going to receive my custom mirror. In my BBB case, Gatsby Timber accuses me of trying to extort them because I asked for a refund on my mirror that I never received. They claimed it was still in production which they won't do refunds, and also that I had buyer's remorse instead of faulty items being delivered, so leads me to believe it's how they "get you" for myself and others who have had horrible experiences. I now started speaking with a lawyer and other customers I found on yelp and BBB to see what my options were. Unfortunately, he said my real only option was to take them to small claims which would just cost me time and possibly money since they obviously knew the workarounds to protect themselves as a company for when they delivered faulty items or never delivered at all. They also stated they had an attorney in place for this stuff, which makes sense after reading all the complaints. I let this company know I was seeking legal advise and they now started accusing me of harassing them I was advised to just take the hit of losing $400. Knowing this company, they will respond with their excuses and blame the client as they did with myself over email and the BBB case, and other dissatisfied clients I spoke with. So, I offer screen shots to display how unprofessional they can be and ask them to give a reason why I never even received my final item. This was easily the worst transaction of my life and I consider myself a pretty laid-back, easy person to work with and I always give benefit of the doubt to smaller businesses and individuals. It's unfortunate that my experience and others was so sub par, but hopefully this review can help people avoid submitting themselves to the same turmoil. read more

Wish I could leave a no star. Have had no luck unloading this garbage furniture from them. Even at yard sale prices lol. After a bit of time, all of the cheap hardware and bases used by them on these pieces have rusted and are coming apart. They used without question the absolute cheapest quality materials. The big timber coffee table is outside on the patio and I am amused at the fact that it is the favorite place for my dogs to hike one leg. I get a laugh every time, man what a joke these two are. Overview: -Continuous delays and vague timelines -Terrible customer service, would not return phone calls, texts and emails -Delivered the incorrect bed and has not refunded the difference between the Marji bed ($1250 paid) and Chelsea bed (retail $900) that I received (photo uploaded) -Less than stellar quality -- the side of the bed bowed out and courier said it needed a bracket installed and the lights are held together by tape Detailed Version: I ordered the marji bed and submitted a 50% deposit of $802.94 on July 19th. I became increasingly nervous as I saw more and more negative reviews begin to pop up on yelp and google. The most concerning part of the reviews is way the company argues with paying customers in response to their concerns. Unfortunately, the reviews are correct, and I would also advise to not do business with this company. I was given a 9 to 10 week turn around, but Tiffany told me in late August she would have the bed to me by September 10th. Recognizing that it is a small business, I did not complain when the bed became delayed into past September 10th. As weeks passed, I called, texted, and emailed, and I continued to receive vague timelines of when the bed would actually be built and delivered. Finally, I was told that my bed would be delivered in the early afternoon on September 30th. By 7:30pm, after a wasted day staying home and continuous back and forth asking where the bed was, the courier finally arrived. Once the bed was put together, I realized it was not the bed I ordered. It was missing the extended headboard from side to side (picture uploaded), the side tables, and one of the wood planks bowed out on the side. The courier said he could come back with a bracket, but I asked that he call the company and confirm if was the right bed. At that point it was 8:30pm, and he said he would come back with the missing pieces or the correct bed. I called, texted, and emailed Gatsby Timber over the next 24 hours, letting them know that I believed they had delivered a Chelsea bed to me. I sent photos of the significant differences between the two styles (including the price) and my original order request. When they finally began returning my emails 24 hours later, they said they would not be returning my calls and continued to communicate by email only. I explained two ways we could both clean our hands of this back and forth, 1) they refund me the difference between the marji and chelsea bed ($350) or 2) they deliver the actual bed I purchased, both fairly reasonable proposals considering this was their error. They proposed building/bringing random tables and asked that I measure the bed so they could "match the tables". I did not want the bed I had originally ordered pieced together with different stain and an incorrect build. Tiffany confirmed she would refund me the money, but then John took over the back and forth by email. After 20+ emails back and forth with them arguing with me, I asked again that they just refund me the difference of the bed they built me. I have been promised a refund two evenings this week, and I have received nothing. Not even sure how to start. The bed was almost 2 months late and when it arrived the leg was cracked. Also, we ordered a barn door for our bathroom. The back side of it was scratched and none of the nail holes had been covered. So, if I close the barn door, I get to see a zillion black nail spots & a huge scratch. Contacted Tiffany at the site & she basically said they had inspected the bed & that the delivery person was always great. We sent her the pictures. This is a huge king sized bed. What did they think that we moved it within 5 minutes of it being delivered? I have no idea who damaged it. But, it needs to be fixed or hauled back away. Normally, even if customer service wants to get away without fixing issues, they try to pretend that they are nice. Not here. Tiffany basically accused us of lying & I guess taking a sledge hammer to the leg. You think I could move a huge king size bed and damage a leg within 5 mins of it being delivered? I don't ever leave bad reviews but this has had me cross for sometime now. Totally got scammed gave these 2 fellow Georgia dwelling folks $1300 for a head board and footer setup. Spoke with them specifically about stains and textures of the materials, they said give them 6 weeks so I did. 3 months later I got a call to pick it up wrong colors and super cheaply built. Me. Gatsby said he wouldn't change it but sell it and only give me back $900. I was super frustrated and he proceeded to give me a sideways threat of sorts. Interacting with John and Tiffany Nevil at Gatsby Timber has been the worst business transaction of my life. They promised project completion in approximately 6-8 weeks post-deposit and to try to have it done closer to 6 weeks. This furniture was needed prior to completion of a large home renovation I was doing. After 8 weeks post-contract, they had not given me any update until after multiple inquiries and at 9 weeks post-contract they told me that they still had several projects to work on before getting to mine. I requested an immediate deposit. They then told me they would no longer sell me the furniture and also refused to refund my deposit immediately, but proposed to eventually refund the deposit after producing my furniture and selling it to an unknown, to-be-determined future client. It's now 8 months post-contract and they still have not refunded me and are no longer responding to any of my communications. Long Version: On July 6, 2017 I paid a 50% deposit of $708.85 to John and Tiffany Nevil of Gatsby Timber for them to produce two bathroom vanities for me. Prior to the payment of the deposit, Tiffany wrote to me that the furniture would be ready within approximately 6-8 weeks of payment (Aug 17 - Aug 31) and that they would try to have them complete closer to the 6-week deadline. On August 16 Tiffany responded to my email inquiry on whether the project was on track that they were "working steady towards completion!" On September 6, I inquired again via email on the status of the order via email because the Nevils had not communicated further. Tiffany responded that they were behind on construction because they had two more orders in front of mine, and that they were "...moving steady towards completion in the next few weeks." This response suggested that their completion time would be no earlier than 12 weeks post-contract. I called them again several times to acquire more specific information on the timeline but they did not answer or return voicemails. On September 13 (10 weeks post-contract) after a week of failed inquiries on a specific project timeline, I drove to the address listed online for Gatsby Timber. On arrival, I found that the listed address for Gatsby Timber did not exist, but a neighbor told me that they were instead at an adjacent address, which seemed suspicious. Upon arrival to the other address, I saw signs for "Gatsby Timber" but there were no individuals there. I left a signed note requesting immediate refund of my deposit given the delays and lack of communication from their business regarding the actual timing of project completion. Jon Nevil text messaged me from his cell later that day. Prior to this point, I had no contact information for Mr. Nevil and had only been communicating with Mrs. Nevil via email. Since they would not respond to their phone and Tiffany only wrote short vague email responses to my inquiries, I had made attempts to contact him via other social media channels but was unsuccessful. Because of this he accused me of stalking him. He also accused me of having verbally abused Tiffany in my emails, in which I only expressed dissatisfaction with their lack of communication and the delays. He demanded that I cease communication with Mrs. Nevil via the Gatsby Timber phone number and email address. He also warned me to never again come to their address listed for Gatsby Timber. Mr. Nevil stated that he would refund my deposit only after they had produced the furniture I commissioned and then sold it to some to-be-determined third party. In response, I asked if this meant the vanities were near completion. He said they were close to completion, apparently contradicting earlier statements by Mrs. Nevil that there were two builds in front of mine. I then stated a willingness to finish the transaction (accepting the furniture and paying the remainder of the contract) if they stuck to a clear timeline. But Mr. Nevil refused to sell me the furniture and reiterated his promise to eventually refund me at some unknown time point in the future. I had to find another furniture builder to produce vanities before the renovation could continue, which caused me to live in a temporary living situation for about 6 more weeks than I would have otherwise. I've waited a few months to see if the Nevils would refund my deposit because I did not want to have to take this to a small claims court if possible. I held off on these negative reviews too to give them a chance to resolve this. I checked in with John every month or so via text message on the status of my deposit. He kept promising that he just needed a little bit more time to give me my refund. It has now been 8 months after I paid my deposit. The Nevils still have not refunded my deposit, have not given me any furniture, and in the past month have stopped responding to my communications. read more

I placed an order and after a month I called to see what was happening with my order. No one ever returned my calls or voice mails. I emailed them and they replied a few days later telling me that my order was pushed back a month. They were very short with me. You think they would have reached out and notified me that my order was going to be late. A month later I emailed them again wondering where my bed was, and was told it was going to be another week or so. They again didn't inform me of this change, I had to keep pestering them. I highly recommend John for his stellar custom furniture. I recently bought a house and was excited to finally fill it with non-IKEA pieces -- but my style & my budget did not align. I fell in love with some Crate & Barrel and West Elm pieces that were just too pricey. I sent John my ideas about what I wanted, and he crafted pieces that were extremely similar--but way better, because they were crafted with such care and love! He & Tiffany sent progress pictures throughout the build, and I'm so happy with the final results. I got a beautiful king size bed with blue vintage reading lights, a gorgeous dining room table with matching bench, a buffet with a custom bar lid, and a low nighstand to match the height of my platform bed -- all for about a THIRD of the price that I would have paid at those bigger (and impersonal) stores.
