Who knew Burlington's Ribfest was the largest in Canada? I had been hearing about it from multiple…read moresources leading up to it and figured if I was going to go to any ribfest in the GTA, it might as well be the largest one! It's held in the same location every year which is the the Burlington Lakefront along the Waterfront Trail. You can't miss the set up. There was an entrance point with big banners announcing Ribfest and its main organizer Rotary International. There was an optional donation for entry here but it wasn't clear what was benefiting from the donations. Once you got through, there was a small midway set up leading towards Brant Street Pier. We walked a bit along the waterfront trail to see the main food area. You can see the behind the scenes from the paved path. The green is where each of the stalls are set up. Each of the purveyors had a huge lattice of banners that advertised all their prizing from locations across Canada and the US. They also had tables in front of their stalls with all the hardware they won. Super impressive! Also at the front were generally staff that were giving out tasters of their BBQ sauce so you could try before you bought. Every place had ribs that came in the 1/3, 1/2, and full rack. They also varied in terms of what other meats (chicken, pulled pork, sausage) and sides (beans, mac and cheese, cornbread) they carried. All of the pricing was pretty similar so you weren't at risk of losing out on value anywhere. The ribs really were exceptional! We got them from two different stalls and both were fall off the bone and so tender. There were slight differences in sauce and I did end up preferring one over the other, but they were both really tasty. We also had a smoked sausage to try something else out that was different. I'd just stick with the ribs personally. All of the staff that we interacted with were exceptionally nice. The whole vibe was that everyone was there having a good time. At one place, there was a sign that said "Tip to make the crew oink". We weren't intentionally trying to see what would happen but the sign was spot on - everyone oinked haha. At another stall, our tip got us an extra end rib which was very kind of them to do. The lines were really good this year as it was a little rainy out and acted as crowd control. I've heard that in other years, you need to come with a big group so everyone can split up and line up at different stalls! We only had to wait 5 minutes or less for each place.

Prices are reasonable, with tall boy cans of beer for $8. This year a full rack of ribs will cost you $25 and half rack for $15. I always stick to the ribs as they are always cooking them on the grill so they are nice and hot. The chicken breast is good too, but usually not as freshly cooked. They have two performance stages at either end of the park with bands playing all the time. There are lots of white high back chairs for sitting which makes for a comfortable time. If you can find a spot, you can park at a couple of the lots at the park, and parking is free at them after 6:00pm.

Sound of Music takes over the whole water front as well as several blocks of downtown. We strolled down Brant and passed several small stages along the way. We were able to get vegan soft serve and sit on a bench and listen to free live music. Parking was crazy as a result but we had a nice walk through some fancy neighborhoods and the free live music was quite a pleasant surprise.

There's a splash pad for the kiddies with lots of slides and a huge dumping water bucket. The pool is quite large separated with a shallow end for the younger kids and 4 tiny water dumping buckets. There also a shall end and a deep end. To keep the kids occupied they have 2 diving boards and a rock climbing wall where you can jump into the pool after climbing up to the top. The pool is clean and the change rooms are also clean. There are lots of lifeguards on duty and the kids can do swim tests. You can make reservations online on burlington swim website or pay in person. It's $3.15 for residents not sure what it cost for non-residents. For residents you can also book online a lot earlier. Right now with Covid restrictions there's only 2 hour swim time slots. Such a nice outdoor pool in Burlington!!

The theater is gorgeous and small enough so that no matter where you sit, you can see and hear everything. If you have trouble hearing, you can always go to the small refreshment stand and take out amplifiers to wear during the performance. There's a nice selection of refreshments and snacks and everyone who works there is Simply wonderful.

It reminded me of both some of the intimate, beautiful historic broadway theatres in New York and also The Ford's Theatre in DC (yes, that theatre) but WAY smaller, of course. Our seats were in the 1st row on the balcony. Basically, there are no bad seats here, but the front row has a railing that partially blocks the stage. Luckily, there were empty seats higher up, so we moved. The band and Sergio.were great, but there seemed to be problems with the sound with the singers. Not sure if it was our location (speakers), problems with mics, or something else. Regardless, it took away a bit of enjoyment. Overall, not a bad place to see a concert. Side note. Everyone stands during BSB shows, which is fine. Nick came out and everyone stood up. There is a big space between the front row and the stage, so the whole front row moved up, which is fine. However, security did absolutely nothing, so everyone from the sides also went to fill that gap, and since I was in the center, went right in front of me. I was also directly in the middle of the row, so I couldn't get out. And to add to this, the one guy that was actually at Nick Carter's show not only moved out to the front, but stood front and center right in front of me. I am short, so I had the honor of seeing the back of his dumb head the entire show. Not to mention, what man stands in front of thousands of women at a Nick Carter show?? I realize that isn't the venue's issue, but I have pent up anger... So, would I see a show here again? Yes, But security needs to fix this, and I will most definitely complain about it if I go back. People with worse seats than me should NEVER be able to go stand in the front row.

It could have had more about the history of the falls, it's significance to the residents, more indigenous history, some underground railroad history, maybe some scientific facts about the falls. They had a random tattoo exhibit. They went into a war that I didn't even know happened so I did learn something but I was disappointed. The highlight was the gift shop. They have awesome soaps, magnets and eclipse watching glasses. The bug artwork and taxidermy dog were creepy but cool. If you are a local I would come to support. If you're visiting don't bother. Hate to be hard on a museum but this was disappointing! Staff was friendly as usual.

Also it was amazing to put on the replica uniform from the War of 1812 and carrying a riffle.. The kids enjoyed it the most. In the 2nd floor there are another exhibition that will get you immersed in the history of the iconic City of Niagara Falls. We enjoyed the most three interactive stations in this gallery that allow us to touch mother nature, span the gorge and become a daredevil. There are 4 places to park infront of the museum on the main street. And I think there is parking lot on the back ( we didn't try that as we parked infront of the museum ). There is a gift shop where you can buy souvenirs. The visit may take around one hour.

The Burlington Food Truck Festival is a free three day festival that took place by the waterfront…read morein Burlington Ontario at Spencer Smith Park. The festival is run by the Canadian Food Truck Festival which is also responsible for food truck festivals in Toronto, Richmond Hill, Brampton and Pickering. Admission was free but an amount of $5 was suggested which would go to the charitable cause SickKids Foundation. I went on a Sunday afternoon and Spencer Smith Park was a perfect location for the festival, right by the waterfront and lots of ample space to move and areas to sit and enjoy your food. There were forty food trucks in attendance. We went with 4 tacos from El Trompo (four for $12 tax included), the Mexican restaurant in Kensington Market also has a food truck now. A spicy lamb roti from T Dot's Naansense ($12 tax included), A paella from La Fiesta ($14 tax included). All three vendors we bought food from were all pretty good but nothing really outstanding. For those interested in alcoholic beverages, they had cans of Budweiser for sale ($9 tax included) and free samples of Budweiser's prohibition beer. Budweiser also happened to be one of the sponsors of the event. In terms of entertainment, they had a children's village with rides for the children in attendance and local musicians performing at the main stage. Overall, really well run food truck festival at a great location with lots of ample space and lots of different food options. Prices were a little on the high side but food at most food festivals are pretty expensive in general. It's a great event for people of all ages: teenagers, couples, friends looking for something to do and families.
