I have had friends come by, but I am sometimes gone for too long to feel comfortable imposing on them. I found Lorraine's service My Vacation Pet Nanny online, and I called and was immediately impressed. She made an appointment and came over to meet the cats. She sent paperwork via email, and although I always leave a detailed note, I felt more confident knowing that she was that organized. (She also texts or emails right before a trip to say that she remembers and will be there - important for me because I have had someone forget in the past.) I first left the cats with her for 9 or 10 days in the late summer, and then again for 2.5 weeks last month. The first time I was in the country, and she sent several texts with pictures, in addition to leaving written notes each day (which I had requested). The next time I was on a ship and unavailable via text, so she sent a text on an alternate number I had given (one of the internet text services) and several emails with pictures and a video. Raven, who dislikes almost everyone, actually climbed into her lap one day! She doesn't just do the basic job (food, water, litter, etc.) - she cares about and plays with the animals. For me, her care of my pets makes the difference between my enjoying a trip or not - I can now relax and know that they are well cared for. I give her service my highest recommendation. If you worry about your pets as I do, you will feel so much more relaxed and happy if you hire Lorraine when you travel! I would give more than 5 stars if that were an option.

Bathing is done by Tasha, and I would swear she is bathing a newborn because of the way she talks to the dogs, the concern and compassion she has if they are older dogs, and she doesn't "just" bathe them, she massages them, makes sure that the dog's fleas, if any, are completely gone, she bathes them from stem to stern, top to bottom. I've known her, when I am bringing in my spoiled border collie, to have 16 dogs to bathe, and yet she smiles and always has a kind word for the dog coming through the door, as well as the dog's parent. Billy, the groomer, has the biggest heart for all animals, especially dogs. I think he would prefer to go to doggie heaven than the heaven where we are going! Such patience, amazing kindness, and expresses love to each dog he is working on. We have boarded our dog many times, and he comes home happy and tired... tired because Bill has taken time to go up to the shop and throw the ball until he wears our dog out, and that is very hard to do. We had an emergency this past weekend with our 16 year old Dachshund Frankie and the clinic we use does not provide emergency services. River Valley was recommended, I called and left my frantic information. I promptly received a call back from Dr. Eastwood (the owner) and he never hesitated to see Frankie! He met us there within thirty minutes. He was very professional, friendly and empathic to our crisis situation. He advised us on options to proceed and we were allowed to love our beloved Frankie one last time while he took his final breaths. I am so grateful we were able to find help when we needed it most. This clinic is very nice and I highly recommend it to anyone! We will be changing our pets over to River Valley. They were amazing!

Our six month old kitten was attacked by a dog. The vet I usually go to was closed, so since it…read morewas an emergency, I went to RVVC. Three years ago I swore I would never go back after the vet took all day to see my gelding who's eye was damaged in his stall the night before. This vet did such a sloppy job with the stitches that it actually damaged his eye more - left an ulcer that permanently dimmed his eye. Thankfully I found another vet to help my horse, and made a promise to myself that I would never go back to RVVC. After I complained to RVVC, they sent me a letter asking me to never come back. But I still get a letter every six months from them telling me it's time to come back for a check up. So I took this little kitten to their offices ONLY because it was an emergent situation. I called in advance to tell them we were coming. They said yes, so I drove the 30 miles to get there. When I walked in the door, they said they would not treat my kitten. I said, "He's dying". They again said "we won't help you". So much for "do no harm". Please be warned - they don't give a damn about helping animals or their owners. They are simply in it for the money. Shame on them. Oh, and Boswell Animal Clinic (another 30 miles further) was diligent and saved our cat.

I paid 82 + tip to have my golden retriever groomed and trimmed. I arrived to her shaved down which…read morewas a surprise. But it's hair, it will grow back so no biggie. Upon returning home, I was checking her over and realized her ears were disgusting and dirty. I called, asking about it. Thinking maybe I didn't add that on. They just gave me excuses saying she must have shaken her head and had all that drainage and to watch her because they definitely cleaned her ears. We had had her groomed many times in the past and her ears were always spotless upon picking her up. Very disappointed in their response. Basically "come back in and we'll look at them" to which I replied I was home watching my kids now and family was coming over. They acted defensive as if it wasn't their problem. Such a bummer. Now to find a different groomer for our 3 dogs.
