Service was consistently poor, staff were mostly unfriendly and what was meant to have been a 'special' weekend ended up being a real let down. The room was excellent. Clean, warm and inviting. Plenty of towels and pillows (and storage space.) The inclusive WiFi was fast which was excellent. Didn't have breakfast here but it smelt inviting. There's also a mini gym on site but we didn't make use of these facilities.

The main bar area was quiet for a monday night, but there was a pianist in the corner and the atmosphere was really cosy, not to mention a good range of real ales that the barman informed me were all local. We were treated like royalty, reception booked us in for our evening meal at Castell Deudreath (the more modern hotel and restaurant in Portmeirion Village) and even booked the complimentary taxi service for us so we didn't have to walk up the hill. The meal was superb and the taxi brought us back to our hotel when we were finished. Our room was perhaps a little dated but charming all the same and very pretty and this was all forgotten the folowing morning when we woke up to breakfast in bed and the gorgeous view of the estuary as the sun slowly rose in the sky.
