If I could give half a star it would be too much. This small mortgage group is a joke. 3 times in 6 months they have screwed up on their end and effected my draft amount. First they paid my taxes twice. I was told they could not fix the issue until funds were returned to them by the tax assessor and I was stuck paying 33% higher mortgage payment. I was told a refund would be issued when funds were returned. I even had to contact the tax assessor because Gateway said it was not their responsibility. The next month rolls around. Again my payment is substantially higher. I had it verified that funds were received for the taxes but they hadn't applied them. And that it would be two weeks before that would happen since they only had 2 people in the department that handled that. Eventually almost 2 months after their screw up I received a refund for the 'overages' I was assessed in error. Now this month's payment using their new automated system I authorized a dollar amount as a total payment plus additional principal payment. Instead they took the amount I entered PLUS my normal payment. They refuse to refund it. Made me call my bank to have them file a fraudulent claim to have it refunded. Of course this can take 10 days. I have other bills to pay plus now my mortgage will be late all because Gateway is a freaking joke of a company. They are antiquated in their systems and love to say 'we can't' but 'you need to contact...' what a lousy excuse to make things complicated instead of truly providing a service. Use them at your own risk! Please note this is 3 issues within the first 6 payments. Should be a fun ride for the next 29 1/2 yrs! read more

Happy with the rate at which we got, but the communication and preparedness of the company was horrible. Our closing date was pushed back over and over again and new documents requested the week before closing. We communicated primarily via e mail. But a majority of our emails went unanswered and unrecognized. Nothing about our closing seemed of any importance to our closing team, if we had had time we would have chosen a bank instead. But since we were told everything was ready to close up until the week prior we did not have time to change options, given we had already prepared a move from Tennessee. We've heard good things about this company, but have also heard others complain during this time with their sub par service. read more

For what it's worth, this review is based on the location in the Galleria area, but it's the same company, so watch out. They ordered an appraisal for an FHA loan that was ridiculously low. Then when the seller's agent requested a new appraisal or a dispute, the loan originator, Michael Ruiz simply blew her off. He was either inconsistent or lied about the loan saying it was a conventional loan when in fact the Pre approval was FHA. This same person later almost scuttled the deal again by demanding that the seller pay for the first 26 days of interest on the buyer's loan. Michael Ruiz is one of the most rude, irresponsible, unprofessional, unethical persons we've ever encountered in the real estate business. If the way he does business is any indication of the values of Gateway Mortgage, you'd do well to steer clear of this company. read more

Terrible mortgage company, they will lie to you to get you to finance with them and then not acknowledge you after they get your money. We had a problem with our contractor, I contacted the guy who works for and financed us through Gateway before the contractor was given a significant amount of money, he lied to us and so now we are out over $50,000. We were told that contractors never run off with customers money through them but they do, Gateway doesn't care as long as they get their payment each month!
