    American Auto Group

I'd like to bring everyone's attention to a car dealership in Saginaw Michigan by the name of…read moreAmerican Auto Group. My grandmother Bobbie Hardy which most of Saginaw knows who she is, went to this place in search of a decent car. She looked at a 2007 Ford SUV, and decided she wanted to purchase the vehicle. Now this is where it gets scandalous in my opinion, the car salesman of the place told her $3,000 and a trade in for her 1999 Malibu. The SUV had over 300,000 miles on it as well as a couple of rust spots right. They were also gonna let her drive off the lot with the car without a License Plate because they were gonna switch everything over to this SUV through the Secretary of State. My grandmother put her "TRUST" in these people to do her right, so without signing any paperwork she gave these people the money because it was the end of the day and they couldn't make a transaction with the Secretary of State. My grandmother came back the next day to do business, next thing you know, American Auto Group tells her that they couldn't switch the plates over, so my grandmother changed her mind about purchasing the SUV, when she realized that it might be a mistake purchasing the vehicle she asked for her money back, and the people told her they weren't gonna do that and the money was non-refundable which they failed to tell her that before she gave them her money. American Auto Group forced this SUV on my grandmother, which I'll remind everyone that my grandmother is 88 years of age, my mother who was also with her, is 61 years of age. American Auto Group got over on two senior citizens and forced a car on her that was not worth its value in my opinion, on a 88 year old woman. Anyone, looking to purchase from this place, if I were you I wouldn't do business with them or you could be next in a rip off. "Please Share This With Others From Our City". I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

We found out Thursday night that my daughter was possibly going through liver failure at the age of 1! I called and asked for a 1 day extension due to this hardship and since all my payments are on time or early! I got no help and was told that I had to call in before the day of due (even tho I have proof that this all happened the night before.) I was informed that my car would be repo if I missed the payment by even 1 day and that there was nothing they can do. I ended up having to borrow the money from a stranger because I wouldn't be able to take my daughter to her appointments for treatment if it was repoed!!! Again I never missed a payment and have even been paying a day or two early. This doesn't even mention all the replacement parts I had to cover myself because when I took the car in under their fake warranty the bs shop put anaerobic gasket maker on my gas cap to stop the air leak (which caused me to have to drop the tank and drain it due to potential contaminants in the gas) and it wasn't even the issue I brought it in for. I brought it in for a slipping transmission which I ended up having to get rebuilt elsewhere at my own expense. (I would never go Thur this company for car again. They don't care if your have hardships. They only care about their payment. The car I got Thur them turned into a money pit. As soon as I get one thing fixed something else go wrong with. I'm not even sure the car is safe to drive. It's turning out to not be a reliable car. When I told them about all the problems I'm having with the car they didn't offer to get me into something more reliable vehicle. Just give us our money.) Definitely agree with this review! It seems I'm not the only one with the same issues here!

They ask you to leave a good review, so I'd take the 4+ star rating with caution. The fact that they'll work with you if you have no credit or bad credit and the fact that they'll give you a warranty are just about the only good things I have to say. That being said it is only a partial warranty. You'll be paying just about as much a month if you got a new 2020+ car that you'll be paying here. We pay just under $600 a month for a 2015 and my mom has a car through Toyota and is paying about the same for a 2021. Which I honestly think is ridiculous, but I digress. If you miss one payment, they'll take the car. Most dealerships give you 2-3 payments, not here. You get a $100 tow credit every time you have to tow your car, however if you want that reimbursement, you'll have to wait at least 3 weeks. You have to pay a $100 deductible every time you use the warranty, so I hope that if your car breaks down like mine does that you have an extra $200+ laying around. The $100 deductible will be added to your next payment. Speaking of breaking down, I've officially had my car for a year and mine has broken down 5 sperate times within the last year! So even though I've had the car for a year I've spent less than 6 months behind the wheel of it. The car spent almost 3 months at a mechanic 8 hours away from where I live because in less than the 5 months at the time, I had owned it the engine blew up! Originally, they tried to say it was my fault! The check engine light would flicker every now and again, so I took it into one of their "approved mechanics" and he told me that there was water on my sparkplugs. If you don't know anything about cars like me that means, there's a crack in the engine block. Why the mechanic didn't tell me that is beyond me, and I have left a review for that mechanic as well because if he had told me "Hey this means there's a crack in your engine block," I would have gotten it fixed then and there. Then after getting the car back the very next day, it died again, and I had to replace the battery. Which not a super big deal but after sitting for 3 months waiting for the car to be fixed it made me very frustrated. The car ran great for a while after that, but the oil light flickers and no mechanic has had the chance to see it happen and for some reason won't listen to me about it. I think it's electrical. Then after only having the car back for a few months the starter went out. Thankfully that was under warranty, but I still had to come out of pocket for the tow and deductible. Then I had a seized caliper which is cover under the warranty, but the mechanic wouldn't do the caliper without doing the breaks and I didn't have the money to do it. So, the car sat for another month and a half while I tried to get over $500 to cover the cost of the tow, the deductible, and the cost to redo the breaks. I did that yesterday along with an oil change and guess what my car's check engine light is on AGAIN. So now I have to pay not an additional $100 on my next payment but an extra $200 because I have to take the car back to the mechanic again! I've never owned a used car that needed this much work and constantly broke down. We've talked to Clean Cars and Credit about putting us in a different car and they said no go. Once we can save up to buy or lease from a different company we will be. I don't care that we are leasing the vehicle once we have the money to get out of it. It'll be back to clean cars and credit. I'll tell everyone not to buy the car too. Don't let them scam you out of your money too.

So we took it in and it came back and said nothing was wrong with it at all????? Basically this went on for a while and back and forth and I threw them the keys and said keep it! Do not I repeat do not buy anything from these people they are unprofessional and irresponsible! Their mechanics are back yard guys and not the ones you can count on!!!!!!!They repo more cars than they sell because the cars they sell are lemons and people can't buy another car and pay for a lemon at the same time!! It was cheaper to get out of the car they sell than keep it!!!

I actually don't live near Grand Blanc, but ended up heading out to this dealer because of how I was treated at another Subaru dealer in the Metro Detroit area. I was in the market to buy a Subaru WRX or STi and this dealer had one that exactly fit my needs on hand. I made an appointment to go see the car, and upon arriving, the salesperson (Megan) was very friendly and offered to let me test drive the car on my own, even though I actually asked her to tag along since I didn't know the Grand Blanc area. I really appreciated this professionalism and kindness after what I'd seen at the other dealer! The test drive went smoothly and Megan was helpful in pointing out the key features of the car. After the test drive was over, we went back into the dealership to discuss numbers. The no-haggle setup of the dealership makes it very easy to figure out the finances as the only variables left are your financing terms and trade in value. They appraised my car fairly quickly and gave a trade in value (which was not too far from blue book), so I agreed to continue. Because it was toward the end of the day, we ended up having to put in my credit application and wait until the next day to hear what kind of rates I could get. The next day I got the information from Megan, and I was surprised by the sky high rates they offered. Not wanting to lose this car, I chose to find private financing, and got a great rate as expected. Here's where my only complaint with the dealer arose, after I called back to say I'd found better financing, only then did my salesperson say they'd try to get Subaru to match that rate. I was taken aback by the fact that that was an option that wasn't considered to get me to buy the car initially. Of course, I declined and moved ahead with the purchase. I wanted to make the process as painless as possible, so I asked to have the paperwork and car ready for me when I arrived. I looked on the website and saw that the dealer had put a decal of theirs on the car, and asked to have that removed by the time I got there, and they had no problem executing that, which I really appreciated! When I arrived at the dealer, I was in and out with keys in hand in under 20 minutes! BY FAR the fastest process I've ever gone through for trading in and buying a new car. Highly recommend Subaru of Grand Blanc, (talk to Megan) and if you don't like the financing they offer, see if they can do better or find another financier, the dealer is great otherwise!
