STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS SHIT HOLE. I lived here for my senior year in college and let me tell you this place fucking sucks. First being that my unit was disgusting when I moved in. Rotting food, cabinets falling apart, stains or carpets, doors not properly on the hinges etc. I complained about it, nothing happened. Second, I had the AC break on me for more than 30 days while I lived there. If you are from Arizona you would know that it is an emergency to go without air conditioning. It would break on like a Friday and go unfixed till Monday or Tuesday. I would have to spend days at a time sleeping at other friends places which is a bitch when you work full time and go to school full time. Complained regularly, took forever to get fixed. Third, the unit wifi is piss poor. fourth, there was regular infestation of bugs. fifth, I had severe problems with the management. I had three roommates graduate and move out in the fall semester and tried to make me pay the electric bill for the whole unit despite the fact when you sign the lease you agree to pay 1/4 the bill. So because they had people move out I had to pay. Sixth, The worst fucking issue is that I move out on May 30th, and they charge me rent and electric for June. They leased the bedroom I was in to another person! A FUCKING SCAM. I am suing this place if they do not terminate my contract and remove all charges. DO NOT LIVE HERE, IT SUCKS, THEY SUCK, THE PLACE IS FILTHY, AND SO ARE THEIR SCUM BAG PROPERTY MANAGERS. read more

If I could take away stars from this place. I would. I have lived in the dorms and even the crappiest apartments (or so I thought) that costed half the price of this apartment and were still better. Gateway was the absolute worst place I have ever lived in my entire life. First of all, let's start from the beginning. I moved into the apartment in August 2016. The first thing that is a huge burden is the fact that you HAVE to move in after a certain date since the apartments aren't "ready" and regardless, you have to pay a full month's rent for it still even though it was 2 weeks of living for that month. Secondly, when it was move-in day the now "ready" apartment was not at all. I opted for a fully upgraded apartment and when I walked in, I was met with a plethora of problems. Firstly, no air conditioning, at all! It was completely down in the heat of the Arizona summer. Additionally, the cabinets were literally just painted as you could still see painter's tape on them, and even then, it was done very badly as there were already cracks in the newly renovated apartment. The furniture was not there either despite it being a fully furnished apartment. The dryer did not work at all (and it took maintenance a month to fix it). That is just the common area though. In my bedroom, I walk in an I see that my carpet is completely dirty. Not only that, there are shards of glass all over the floor. SHARDS OF GLASS. Not even joking....glass everywhere from the workers who were there previously. Also, my bathroom was filled with other debris also left uncleared, the floor was black, and the wood was obviously old and not the same as the new wood outside. The worst part of living here was the bathroom for me. From day one, I did not have a toilet paper holder as for some reason it was missing, my toilet had to be held down for around 4 seconds in order to flush, the shower trickled and had even less water pressure than my sink, yet still flooded due to poor drainage. From day one to move out, I had these issues. For the common area issues, maintenance fixed them but not in a timely manner. Some instances such as a flooding in the dish washer took a week while the dryer not working took a month to fix. In my personal bedroom and bathroom, I put in maintenance requests, talked to managers, even regional managers for the first 4-5 months of my lease and constantly complained. They always said they would get it done but it never was. By the time the second semester started, I honestly gave up in trying. It was hopeless and the maintenance and staff here are terrible. I agree with another comment that they also never pick up the phone even during hours but when I walk in person, it is filled with 3 employees standing there doing nothing. My last thing to say about living here is that during the last month of living here, my AC broke during the weekend and I called the emergency maintenance line about my AC. Again, this is in the summer again now so it is unbearably hot. A day passed and no response, nothing from the apartment, no fixes. I stayed at a friend's for the night and next day and did not concern myself with it. I went to work the subsequent day and when I came back (this is now almost 48 hours after I called it in) and still no fix. I noticed one change though; the AC was changed from "Cool" to "Auto" which meant someone went in and literally fixed nothing...I ran down to the front desk and told them my AC was broken again and I needed it to be fixed. They said sorry and said someone would be there soon. It was a few hours later that someone finally came and fixed the AC. It took almost an entire 2 days just to get someone to LOOK at my AC and get it fixed. While the fix was quick, it seems that maintenance could have done it but chose not to. When it comes to air conditioning, that is completely deplorable and just a sign of terrible service. This place is a sorry excuse for "college living" and costs an extreme amount for such a bad place. DO NOT go here. I did so only because it was last minute and someone bailed on me on another lease, but I regret it completely. It made every morning for me hell showering in such a bad place, living in a place where nothing worked. I felt like I wasted so much money just to live in such constant discomfort. Do yourself a favor and just don't live here. Even if it means living in a supposedly "worse" place, it cannot get any worse than Gateway. read more

The show rooms are a complete scam! They look NOTHING like what we live in. Also, see that big power plant out front? I bet they didn't tell you it's the loudest piece of machinery you've ever heard! (It seems to come on a lot randomly throughout each week, and sometimes it may stay on until midnight!) That free printer to use.... yea.... it's broken. Until they fix it again... then use it quickly before it's broken for another two months! The pool.... I hope you like our pet rat! The gym.... I hope you like scorpions! The MAINTENANCE..... If I could leave negative stars I would. Gateway at Tempe is probably the worst choice in living you could make here in Tempe. Management does not care about the well being of its tenants nor do they have maintenance that takes care of things within a timely manner. Not only are the people in the office rude when you have questions/ concerns, the maintenance staff will walk in to your place even when permission is not granted. I had maintenance walk in on me in the shower twice and when I called to tell the front office and talk to a manager they acted like nothing bad had happened and brushed it aside saying there was nothing they could do. Then there are the bugs, roaches are common in Arizona that's understandable but the fact that the apartment was swarming head to toe in roaches is absolutely disgusting and the management would not do anything about it until MANY requests were made by both myself and roommates, and by that point to situation had gotten worse. This is no way to run a business and if you are about to move or considering living here I would think twice about doing so and search for a new place to live ASAP! read more

The fact that I am writing this review before I have even moved in should tell you exactly what you need to know about this place. I was told upon signing my lease that I would be receiving a confirmation as to whom I would be rooming with, the apartment number, as well as any other move in day information I would need, a week before move in day. Well, it's the day before move in and I still have none of that information and I have yet to receive any confirmation regarding the status of the first months rent that I was pressured into having paid before move in day. In addition, I have been trying to contact this establishment for the past 12 hours and have not been able to reach them. The only response I get is a robotic answering machine stating "your call is very important to us", which it obviously isn't if no one has answered. This is not a joke... I have been on hold for at least 3 hours with these people and not a single human being answered the phone. I regret having signed a 1 year lease at this place and expect nothing but negative experiences over the next year. If you hope to find an apartment that suits the basic needs of a human being I suggest you look elsewhere. read more

I returned from a one month deployment to Uzbekistan with the Army to find my car was towed and the lock on my door was changed. I told the leasing office the month before I left that I would be leaving, would need to pay all my rent, and asked if there was anything else I needed to do. The answer was no. I found out my car was towed within the first two weeks of my absence (do not leave for more than 2 weeks or they will steal your car). The property manager was too "busy" to see me until 2 days later. When I finally got to meet with her. However, this was no help because she just belittled me and never even apologized. The most troubling aspect is I was paying rent on time and my license plate, phone number, and email are on the same page of the lease, but I was not contacted by any means. I heard all the excuses in the book. The manager was set on the fact that I could not "store" my car here even though I paid rent ahead of time and was overseas with the Army. Storage is also not under the list of reasons for towing in the lease so I brought the lease in and asked the manager to show me where it is and she said, "storage does not have to be under the list of reasons for towing in the lease, we can just do it if we want, but try to let residents know." apparently they do not know what a contractual obligation is. After two weeks of not having a car, I got the an Army lawyer involved, things moved very fast. My car was free to pick up that day. My car was stolen by this apartment complex and I was treated horribly and belittled in the process of fixing their mistake and breech of contract. The management at this place consists of crooks and they will break the law and breech the lease thinking college students do not actually read the lease. Aside from this situation, the place is not cleaned or repaired from the last resident before you arrive, the gates never work, the staff is mostly horrible, and maintenance does their best, but a lot of stuff just gets jerry rigged and not actually fixed. I lived at this place because of the price and location, but now I would happily pay more and live further away from campus to be safe from a complex that breeches the lease. read more

Not even deserving of 1 Star, not worth the money, terrible management, had the manager lie straight to my face telling me my roommate moved out and we were illegally using his room and gave us a 10 day notice to vacate. Entered apartment without any warning and said it was an "error". Office says it closes at 7 on weekends, you will be lucky if it is open till 6. Unit was dirty and moldy when we moved in. A/c broke, they claimed to fix it, came back and it was 95 degrees blasting heat. Maintenance crew is very nice and friendly, not everything is awful, pool is great and so is the location, but a few bad eggs make the whole basket rotten. read more

You get what you pay for (still not cheap, $770 for 2 bed 2 bath). This may be one of the cheapest places closest to campus. I was late on looking into apartments and this happened to be the place that still had a lot of spots open. I will not be renewing my lease. After living here for a year, here's a summary of my experience. 1. Roaches in kitchen. Even after exterminator came, still had the issue. Also heard from my friend in another complex that he had a scorpion in his tub. 2. Wifi. Wifi goes out for the entire community at least once a month and it once lasted 4 straight days. Have to go on campus to get anything done. If you have an issue with TV or Wifi, they will give you the number of the company that provides it and remain as out of the issue as possible. 3. People that work here. I've had some pleasant and also unpleasant interactions with the office employees. They never answer the front desk phone even during hours (probably to avoid the burden). Also when picking up a package, 50% chance you'll actually get it the day it was delivered. 4. In order to get their public ratings up, they constantly email all of the community offering free KFC, chipotle for whoever writes a 5-star review and shows them. 5. The majority of the complexes are OLD. if you do not pay for the refurbished upgrade, it will look nothing like the model room they show you. When I moved in, carpet was gross (had to get steam cleaned) and wrappers under couch cushions, etc. 6. Our disposal in our sink broke and our kitchen flooded, along with some other smaller things. Maintenance crew is prompt (if you go to them directly) and they are really nice guys. Shame they have to deal with gateway. 7. Gym is very small. Out of 3 treadmills, only 1 works. No AC in there. They just turn on the fans and open the doors--not ideal for 10/12 months in AZ. My lease isn't up yet, but I'm nervous for how much extra charge is going to be added to my account upon move-out for damage that was already present at move-in. read more

The only reason I'm giving one star is that there is no options for less. Do not waste your time living here. It's a nightmare. The staff is unfriendly and extremely unhelpful. Maintenance never really fixes any of the requests I put in correctly or sometimes even at all. The only reason anything gets done is if I harass them about it and even then that doesn't work sometimes. I've had to report them to the Fire marshall in order to get 3 out of 5 of my fire alarms fixed. Only after that did someone come to fix them correctly! Goodluck getting ahold of anyone in charge around here either. Despite many requests to speak with the manager I have yet to hear from her. Overall I would say that it would be worth the extra money to live anywhere other than here. It would save you a lot of hassle and stress in the long run. read more

Maintenance is really very quick and pretty friendly, if you don't get one of those guys with the felony charges. This is the worst place to move in. When I moved in, the apartment was a mess and inhabitable. I requested cleaning but the management told me that because one of my roommates had renewed his lease, they were not obliged to clean the common areas like lobby and kitchen. As a result, I had to clean them both myself which took 4 days. Then there was a serious roach infestation. The management sent a roach treatment team, however, the problem was not solved. The air conditioner stopped working and I lodged a complaint, but no resolution even after 22 days and constant reminders. The park that adjoins the community is home for many homeless and gates are not locked neither guarded. I would never recommend anyone to stay here. Please pay a little extra and stay at a nice place. Do not trust the demo apartments they show as a part of the house tour. The real apartments were built in 1980s and have not been renovated since. I moved out over a month ago & they owe me almost $500 because I overpaid rent . I've been trying to get it since I've moved out . They've given me a number to Greystar & they don't even do refunds it's straight from the property ! Now they won't answer the phone ! Before management changed they were horrible . Now the new management is even worse. Like give me my money back so I can be done w you. The first time I've ever lived there they put on my credit that I owed $432 w/o sending me a print out of what I owed before sending it to collections . I paid it & now this time around they won't give me my money ! I will be taking legal action because this is ridiculous! The apartments are already ghetto ! Got my car stolen out of there. Homeless people are always INSIDE of the gates ! The back gate connected to the park is ALWAYS open for randoms to browse the community ! $800 for a ROOM & a common area is TOO MUCH ! If I could 0 star this I would. Where do I start. I moved in and was charged a cleaning fee, got there and the whole place was dirty. Super dusty, dirty clothes still in the washer, dishes still in the cabinets that were sticky. Inch of dust in my fan and in the bathroom. Two weeks later after move in a team of cleaners came completely pointless after I cleaned the whole place myself. Next, when I moved in I was charged for a month I didn't stay for, and I had a written agreement with them proving I didn't have to pay that month. They charged me electricity for a month no one was in the apartment for or had the lease for. Then I had insurance fees pile up after sending in my insurance multiple times. They still owe me like 150-170$. They did a bandaid fix with 35$ back and said that it'd be figured out soon that email was like 3 months ago...Also we pay for amenities that you can't even use the basketball court lights don't turn on until 1245 am. So people can't play from 8-1245. Played at this time for a while then a security guard who thought he was the next big cop or something said we can't pay and it's in the lease. Pulled up the lease on him to show nowhere does it say that since control f is a thing...caught his bluff he proceeded to say he doesn't want to fill out paperwork rn i said paperwork for what? For me using a court 3 days before I leave that I pay for? Why wouldn't I be able to use it then he called someone I assume he was bluffing but I didn't want to wait around to find out, but then again what would I get in trouble for using the basketball court I again pay for? Probably not pretty much dick head security guards on power trips. Also, half the time front desk doesn't know what they were talking about. The only plus of this place is that the maintenance squad works wonders with all the shitty equipment gateway provides in the apartments. The pictures are nothing like the furniture you get. My chairs had burn holes in them, couch was old and crusty, and pretty much everything is chipped, worn out, or completely broken. Hand towel racks fall out when you wipe your hands. Some shady people sometimes in the area, got scammed here, there's been murders, and they don't treat the victim family's well here. Pretty much don't get this place for the price you can get the same price elsewhere for a better place. I'm about to live in a nice house for 300$ a pop with my own pool #fuckgateway. Oh and no one cleans up dog shit, broken glass, and broken sprinklers that flow up like the old faithful geyser when they're turned on. read more

I was a guarantor on this apartment For my son in college. When he moved out, they said they had to replace the carpet and sent me a bill, I contacted them and ask them for pictures. I also contacted to see if the deposit did not cover it. Every time I would call There was always an excuse like...we have to look at the account and get back to you, I'm new here I don't know I have to get back to you, I need to send an email to the management, I can't get access the account, and nobody ever got back to me. I contacted them five different times and nobody got back to me. Then it shows up in collections and on my credit report. I tried to dispute it, but they sent the bill to them for the carpet repair as if that was some type of proof that the carpet needed repaired or that the deposit they didn't cover it. I then called the apartment complex again, to which they said that they would contact the manager and they would be back to me in the same day. Of course I never heard anything, then I called them again and then they said they couldn't access the account to let me know about anything about a deposit because it was out of their hands, in collections now. I cannot even tell you how disgusted I am by the business practices of these people. read more

I've lived here for the past year. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. We paid for the second highest level of upgraded apartment - when we moved in the place had never been cleaned. There were beer caps under the couch, dirt everywhere, and LONG HAIR STUCK TO ALL OF MY BATHROOM WALLS. When we told them they needed to get a cleaning crew in here immediately they sent one woman with one rag and one bottle of cleaner.... How is that gonna accomplish anything? We had to have several things replaced the first day, we are currently on our 3rd fridge which is about to be replaced again, the entire apartment is falling apart. The maintenance men will knock once and come bursting in your apartment 3 seconds later... God forbid you're in the shower or waiting a minute to answer the door. It was my birthday yesterday, DECEMBER 5TH, I have a friend who invited me and a few friends to hang out at the pool area and enjoy ourselves. Well, not even 3 mins of sitting down, Police were called on us because we were unfamiliar faces, but at the same time we barely got there and we weren't bad vibes, like nothing dangerous or out of the ordinary. The officers approached us and asked do we live here, and we honestly said no, but were invited to hang out here for my birthday by my friend ( I have 4 different friends in these apts), further asked where is the friend? We said, "in the shower." Then, went on and told us we can't hang out with out the resident present, that we put cigarrettes out on the ground ( we had honestly just lit one cigarrete, even still full size as we're talking to the officers), and we had to go back to my friends apartment. Now, I received a call from my other friend, saying he was evicted because of our presence at the pool area, further told him, " We don't want hoodlums, gangsters, or any bad influences at the Gateway Apartments." Now, Im an innocent young man, with a 3.65 GPA, makes music, and at one point looking in to being a resident at Gateway on Tempe, but because me and my friends are black and having a great time sitting down while waiting for my friend who invited us. Heavily discriminated, it's to the point, what if we were in the green and my friend who is resident went to the restroom or went to get something from his apartment, are we supposed to tag along every time? I feel that once we stated we were invited here for my birthday, i feel we should've been all right, even with speaking with good attitude with officers and us legitimately just got to the pool, birthday was ruined, me and my friends were discriminated, more so a my other friend got evicted for something he wasn't no where involved in, and he was at work. -10 stars contact me at michealbatiste@ymail.com read more

Okay honestly, some things are really good here but lots needs to be changed. The price is very low, the apartments are decent and the amentinites and location are very nice. While maintenance repairs are very prompt, nothing is ready and cleaned and fixed when you first move in so you will go to unlock your bedroom door and from their it is on you to find everything broken piece by piece and fill out a million maintenance requests. Fix it and have it ready prior to move in? They also have to take a survey for roomate pairing. They dont seem to care much for what you put on there. I and 2 other people were forced to live w a total slob after we all had selected to be with someone clean. We also said 'no dog', well the same nightmare roomie decided he'd get one, got an eviction notice for him not registering at first then he was allowed to move it in just like that after paying, so gateway cares more about the $$ then fulfulling contracts and keeping other tenants happy. The roomie saga continues with him moving his girlfriend in under the radar, I reported it he was given a 'warning', ceased for a week or so then moved her back in. And cigarettes are constantly smoked in the apt living an overwhelming scent. Have had no response or help from office yet. Please help me fix this gateway and change my mind. If I could leave this place zero stars I would. The bad reviews on here are spot on, and some of them don't even go into detail on how horrible this place truly is. Parents, if you care about your student don't subject them to this place. The complex reeks of weed and cigarettes. The day I moved in, my complex was dirty, and smelled horrible. The leasing office claimed that the complex was cleaned prior to move it, however when you run a Lysol wipe across the counter it shouldn't be black if the unit was clean.... Additionally, my car was broken into the first week I lived here, and then towed the following week, even though I had a parking pass. When I told the leasing office my car was towed and asked why because I HAD a parking pass, they simply said that they didn't know, and that it was essentially out of their hands. I had to pay 120 to get my car back, that was wrongfully towed. There is mold in the bathroom, so use shower shoes, the sinks flood when you run the dishwasher, cabinets are beat up and flaking, counter tops lifting, flooring bent and lifting, and my counters had burn marks on them... The staff is rude, and dismissive and quite literally don't do anything. The only decent thing about this place is that one member of the maintenance staff is nice. Don't expect communication, or anything to actually be fixed, and hopefully you have good health insurance because you will be sick every other week from the living conditions no matter how often you clean. Do not waste your money on this overpriced landfill of an apartment complex, you can find something far better for the same price. read more

Walls are really thin and a very load atmosphere. If you are there to party and stay up late, then it might be for you. You are not paying for quality that's for sure! You are paying for the party community. Gateway is very cheap and will squeeze as much money out of you as possible. They now fix things relatively fast but appliances break often and are low quality. Don't be surprised if you find old belongings behind the dresser with dust and hair everywhere upon move in... it was gross. They do patch work to fix apartments and looks it. The leasing office will mislead you to try and sell. Make sure you know 100% what you are doing and don't beleive what is not in writing. One example is trying to have them sublease your apartment for a fee... they don't care and it will never happen. Another example, asking for a different type of roomate to fill the room... ie not a foreign exchange student that does not speak english... what you will get is your 5th exchange student living with you. Pros: party, location, umm free printing?? Worst parts: quality of apartment,walking and wii being heard above you, loud yelling, loud running up stairs... all this 24/7 Age range: 18 - 20 read more

I almost gave 3 stars because the maintenance and staff crew is nice, helpful, and (with consideration to the high volume of people moving in and out at one time) gets requests done in a timely manner. The recent renovations look really nice, the pool area is awesome, it is close to campus and a fun environment to make friends. The flat rate rent is a perk but still expensive for having 4 roommates. *This is a good first apartment but do not expect much When we first moved in everything was filthy, definitely had not been cleaned and it SMELLED EXTREMELY FOUL (the smell lingered throughout the year, like no amount of febreeze/airfresheners/cleaning helped). On move in day there was broken glass underneath my bed like someone had broken through the window, strange food stains on the walls and ceiling, dents on the outside of the refrigerator like someone took a hammer to it, the fridge and freezer were missing multiple shelving parts so we used duct tape in place of the shelves for the year, and there were a bunch of random little things missing like the knob to turn on the dryer. My bathroom door couldn't open all the way because it hit the bathtub causing you to have to squeeze in awkward positions, or stand in the tub, if you wanted to close the door while you use the bathroom... Our apartment flooded at least 4 times for numerous reasons, the first few being that a pipe in the wall had a hole in it and there were noodles inside of the wall? (Weird)... The door to the laundry closet literally just fell off as I was opening it one day denting my roommates door (which we were charged for). The AC went out multiple times. I only saw roaches inside a handful of times. If you live by the pool I'm sorry... there will always be someone blasting music, screaming, or fighting outside your window. You will NOT SLEEP HERE. The walls/doors are VERY VERY VERY THIN. It really sounds like the people in the other room are right next to you, I could even hear the phone of the person who lived above me ring/vibrate. My roommates were shown a completely different unit and we were promised things to look a certain way and our actual apartment definitely did not look as promised. I'm really only upset because my roommates and I moved into a complete filthy disaster and spent a lot of time cleaning before move out. We left the apartment 100x cleaner on move out but were still charged random "cleaning fees" They clearly did NOT care to clean our unit before we moved in so I'm not entirely sure what these fees go towards. Overall this place is very nice on the grounds/outside but the actual units are old, run-down, and just plain dirty. The individual leases are great for people who need a place to live but don't want to be responsible for damages done by other roommates. The staff is very nice and tries to compensate but this was honestly a huge headache for me, live here if you don't need sleep and want to spending your entire first week deep cleaning your apartment. read more

It's a great place to meet new people and hanging out by the pool is fun (pool is often really gross and dirty from weekend partying so I don't suggest swimming in it unless you can see the bottom clearly). The place I moved into wasn't dirty. It was an unrenovated place but still pretty clean and well put together. The roommates I've had have all been nice and clean. The biggest problem I've had is getting a hold of the office or getting things fixed. I've had a broken washing machine for 3 moments now and I told them many times it was broken and it takes weeks for someone to come look at it. Each time they say it's fixed then we use it and it's not at all fixed. I know it's a cheap place so I can't expect too much but I do at least expect to get things fixed when they're broken in a timely manner. The good thing with maintenance is, when you finally get the maintenance manager on site, he's incredibly kind and super helpful. DO NOT LIVE HERE. PERIOD. When I moved in, there was food, tobacco dip, hair, and puke from the previous people imbedded in the carpet. CURRENTLY, washer has been broken for 3 weeks now, maintenance has showed up 2x to fix, but each time they say they fix it, and brown nasty water fills up and stays there w/o draining, and now WE HAVE SCORPIONS!!! Kitchen is falling apart, the complex is under staffed.... i can go on and on. Hello Everyone, Please, if you are smart enough to refer to this website for advice, TAKE IT! I, however, did not search for the previous resident's opinions on this apartment complex and suffered dearly. -GATEWAY IS NOT A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE --} Our neighbors were robbed when someone entered their front window with a crowbar. My roommate's car was vandalized when someone ripped her headlight off her car. We had many attempted burglaries on our apartment (police had to come and take FINGERPRINTS). There were many reports of "peeping toms" and other burglaries around the property. GATEWAY STAFF IS NOT HELPFUL --} We experienced so much strife in our attempts to get our laundry machine fixed after it flooded the apartment and when the roof was leaking. GATEWAY IS OUTDATED --} appliances are old --} the laundry machine is wired up just with the valves in the open (please look if you take a tour--it's awful) --} the screens are broken PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DECIDE FOR YOURSELF: 1) I drove to AZ from washington state where I live. I had to make very specific travel arrangements because gateway was unwilling to let me move in later than 6pm on any day in August (even though I had already paid the entire month). So, the staff is not keen on helping you through specific issues. 2) Once I finally was able to move in, I found the apartment was not up to standard. The "patching" done on the walls was not finished (I could see the metal/scaffolding through the patches). The faucet that we paid for in the "mid-level" upgrade was unanchored (it was installed improperly). At first, I thought we had no hot water. Then, I just simply noticed the "blue" marking for cold on the faucet really meant "hot" water and the "red" marking for hot really meant "cold." The caulking behind the kitchen sink was nonexistent (which can lead to mold and, overall, severe water damage to the walls). This was just the kitchen. Then I moved on to surveying the rest of the apartment. There were small dents all over the walls. The screens for the windows had gaping holes (to this day, we still have A ZIPLOC BAG TAPED WITH SCOTCH TAPE onto one of our screens because the hole was so large and that was the only way to repair it). The screens do not stay flush with the window sill (they are bent), so bugs easily get into the apartment, even though we are on the third floor. 3) Over the course of my stay here, there have been many different problems. In example, we have had to file 3 police reports for our apartment alone due to attempted robbery. A policeman actually came and took fingerprints from my roommates window where someone attempted to get in. Our neighbors that live beneath us were robbed because someone used a crowbar to open the front bedroom window. Gateway staff did not care about any of these situations. Example: my roommate called to inform them that her car had been vandalized (someone attempted to rip the headlight from her car--it was dangling around), and the staff response was "well the security doesn't really move around (aka, they don't patrol/do their job)" So they took absolutely no concern to the subject at all. 4) Also, we had many issues with our washing machine over the course of the 1st semester. We requested to have it replaced (it sounded like someone was beating the mating with a wooden bat when it was running), and also had many maintenance requests sent for the machine. Gateway throughout the process assured us that the machine was not broken and everything was fine. Then, during our first week back for second semester, our washing machine proceeded to FLOOD OUR APARTMENT. It flooded so bad that the first floor (we live on the 3rd) had raining in their apartment. So, just picture the flooding was so bad that it waterfalled into the 2nd floor kitchen and then proceeded to flood the first floor. At this point, gateway said they "fixed" the machine and that, once again, they would not replace it. We attempted to use it again and flooding began again. Finally, after two floods (because one wasn't enough), we got the machine replaced. 5) Shortly after the flooding, our roof began leaking on a rainy day. This was not taken care of for about two weeks. To be honest, I am not entirely sure if it is even repaired because it has not rained since, so we have no way of knowing. 6) The appliances are extremely out of date (ex: laundry machine) and so you will definitely be seeing that in your electricity costs. 7) The cable goes out all the time. 8) The wi-fi went out multiple times first semester. Absolute worst place to live. You'll have random fees added to the base rent without them letting you know about it. One staff member will tell you one thing and another person will say the complete opposite, so there seems to be a lot of miscommunication between them. Very rude and unprofessional. read more

Pros -It's a social place to live. mostly students so it's not hard to make friends hanging out around the pool or talking to your neighbors. -I like the basketball courts, Park, and layout of the buildings -close to campus-- just have to hop on the orbit which comes every 15 minutes -walking distance from a few bars -incredible maintenance team -you can have cats Cons -definitely a party complex, so if you're not about that life you won't like living here. be ready for neighbors blaring their music and flashing lights at 11 PM on a Tuesday. -we did no damage to our apartment and spent an entire day (4 of us!) deep cleaning the WHOLE apartment-- carpet, floors, cabinets, fridge, bathrooms, patio, everything-- and they charged us a 100$ "cleaning fee" after move out. We tried to dispute it and they basically told us that everyone gets charged this fee. Great. -CLEARLY that cleaning fee does not ACTUALLY go towards cleaning, because when we moved into our apartment it was FILTHY. fisgusting bathrooms, dirty floors, food still in cabinets. -most apartments around Tempe are shitty like gateway, but you can just do better for the price. You pay over $2000 for a four bedroom that doesn't even have a garbage disposal or good facilities. The gym is tiny, our fridge didn't work very well (it froze everything on the top shelf), the dishwasher barely cleans your dishes, (I ended up having to hand wash everything), the showers aren't great, the printers constantly break, and there's no garbage disposal. -I don't know if this is really an abnormal experience for the area, but I did not feel safe living here. We requested a top floor apartment several weeks in advance and they put us on the bottom floor. All of the neighbors above us were apartments full of men, but they put four girls on the bottom floor. Our next door neighbors were the only other girls in our building, and they were also on the bottom floor. Makes sense! Not. they had to call the police at some point because some creepy guy was coming around and peeking in their windows. We had someone break into our apartment, and I had someone attempt to break into my window. Nothing was ever stolen and none of us ever got hurt, but I just did not feel very safe living here. nothing happened to the neighbors that were living above us. Of course. -The entrance to gateway is a very dangerous intersection. People both enter and exit from the same area and they are turning on to a five lane road that is very busy. In my one year living at Gateway I saw many, many accidents here. I saw people being carried away on stretchers, I saw a bloody crashes, and my roommate had a fender bender. I think gateway could really do something to make this intersection safer, or they could open up the back gate so that people can exit from the back. I tried to speak to Gateway about this but they were not responsive. I think many lives could be spared by making this entrance safer, either by putting up more signs or opening the back as an exit. Gateway was a very social apartment complex and a great place to live for my sophomore year overall, but I definitely would not live here again and I wouldn't recommend it to others. Gateway is a great place to live. Considering the amount of people that live here.. It's not noisy, there is always a fun event going on whether it's a pool party, yoga on the lawn, arts and crafts, live entertainment, basketball game, dogs enjoying the dog park etc.. I've only lived here for a couple months and I gotta say I really enjoy it! The maintenance team are quick with service requests, the office staff are very helpful, and the new updates to the pool and gym are AMAZING!!! In addition, the property in a whole is very clean and that can get hard to keep up for places with a high college student occupancy, but nope the grounds are always kept nice and clean. Warning... this place is a SCAM!! This has to be the WORST managed apartment complex in Tempe! Over the two years my daughter lived there, it has been nothing but bad experience after bad experience. They tell you one thing then actually do the exact opposite. Not once or twice but too many times to count. Not to mention the issues with the air conditioning several times over the two years. We went in today to finalize her last months rent and discuss why they were charging us more. This apartment is absolutely atrocious. First off you are paying way too much for the quality of apartment you get. The $600+ you pay per month only gets you one of the bedrooms and its basically a small closet. Then you're paired up with random roommates if you don't want to sign with anyone else. The walls are thin, the beds are made of very low quality materials, the furniture is falling apart, the carpet still had stains in it when I moved in, the countertops in the kitchen are peeling off, and so much more. When I first moved in, nothing had been cleaned at all. I actually had to speak to the general manager, Jacob, before I got anything done. My apartment was located near the front of the complex - closest to University. Every single morning, without fail I would be woken up at 5am because of the power plant across the street. As soon as I fell back asleep the gardeners were outside at 7am with the leaf blowers and the giant tree shredders. Not only that but I constantly heard music from other peoples' apartments even after filing noise complaints at 2am. I spoke to other people about their move-ins and one person moved into his apartment and found that the toilet had been used and there was fecal matter in it. I have also had people move-in with bed bugs already in the mattress. The staff tells you that you bring it in but I firmly believe that the bed bugs already reside there. This apartment was built in 1998 and you can tell that it has never been updated. The light fixtures are cracked, the furniture is run down and of the cheapest quality you can find anywhere (it is uncomfortable, smells, and already has stains and scratches in it - for which they will charge you at the end), the cabinets in the kitchen are peeling and falling off the walls, and the built-in entertainment center is falling off the walls. This has been the general consensus and applies to everyone I talked to in the apartment complex. The model that they show you looks brand new and fixed up but is nothing like the apartment you will get! DO NOT SPEND YOU MONEY HERE. IT WILL BE A MISTAKE AND A WASTE OF YOUR MONEY. read more

Under no circumstance should you move here. Here is how it works, if you move into an empty apartment it may have been cleaned between tenants but if you move into a year round tenant you are at the mercy of the tenant. If I could give the place negative stars, I would. I live here now and am regretting the decision. While the place comes furnished, everything they provide would probably cost me $100 to just buy on my own, not only that but the bathrooms are disgusting and the air conditioning works only half the time. When you put in a request, the maintinence team will come into your apartment look at the vents and tell you there is nothing they can do. After living here for just 3 months I have had my bike seat stolen and one of my wheels kicked in. Theft occurs here often and the locks frequently break. Location is nice but it's a cheap price for a reason (and actually over prices for what you actually get). I've never had such a bad experience with a place before Gateway. The roommate matching is a complete scam and I lived the entire year in my room because the girls they "matched" me with were completely different from me (not only were they NOT students, they didn't even speak English). I was lucky to get a newer apartment, but the place was still run down and they ended up charging me for things that were wrong in the apartment when I moved in. I never felt comfortable talking with any of the people in the office, which is a mess in and of itself. There is no seperation of responsibilities. The pool is a joke, not exceeding 4 feet at any point. And the gate system is too much of a hassle and doesn't do a very good job in keeping people out. I got security notices 3x a month at least. It would be nice if you're a partying social butterfly who intends to move in with people you already know. But everyone in the end gets nickel and dimed and Gateway will not only make sure they keep your deposit, but also take more money from you for as long as possible. read more

I live here and was robbed and the most important thing to gateway was making sure I couldn't get out of my lease. They were quick to blame us for the robbery, say their security is ample (the gates don't even close at "Gateway"). They need to get their act together. I paid for an "upgraded" apartment. If I hadn't taken the silverware holder from a broken dishwasher they left on the curb, I still wouldn't have one. Shower curtain rod broken when I moved in...finally went and bought one at Target. Otherwise, I'd still be waiting. Nothing is like the model they showed. I can see they are remodeling, but it is no surprise that students are moving in. It is no surprise when we are moving in. It is also no surprise that they expect our checks in full and on time and yet they don't seem to be able to extend the same courtesy. It is frustrating. Yes there are a lot of students so the social scene is great. They just need to get their act together and by the way, turn on the air in the gym.
