I love the variety, selection and quality of food at Aviv. There's a good mix of savoury and sweet…read moreitems, and you can always find something to buy to satisfy a craving or to organise a work lunch/party or whatever. Their bagels aren't my favourite, but they have great quiches, and often at work we get their cakes for various occasions and they never disappoint. However ... with all of that said, the only real negative I can say is that they are a tad overpriced and to me, it lets them down. I also happened to buy a birthday cake, a mini quiche and a cookie and I had some sticker shock for sure. When the cookie was rung up and it said $5, I thought that was the mini quiche and cookie added up together. So that day I spent $51 and when I was leaving, I asked if there was a bag to put the cake in. The only bags were the cloth ones, and they were going to charge me .50c for one when I just spent $51. I had to do a whole separate transaction on EFT-POS just to pay for this .50c bag. I feel that not only are they a bit overpriced, but they need to use common sense when charging for a bag after someone has spent a certain amount. It's a bit off putting, however I'm sure the lure of their bubka (the best I've ever eaten anywhere) will get me back there eventually down the road ...

Until I book that flight I have found Melbourne's contender in the challenge and it is located inside what some say is also one of the best places to buy bagels in town, Aviv's. If you are planning to have people over for brunch I highly recommend pre ordering some mini bagels. Your guests will be as happy as I am when I go to someone's house for brunch and I see those little circles of holy dough.

I've driven past here a few times, and it always looked nice, so thought it was finally time to…read moregive it a try. I'm glad I did. It's beautiful and spacious inside and nice and bright. We were greeted promptly and given our menus right away. They have a good selection here. As with most cafes, you can order off an all day breakfast menu, or choose from a few other dishes. I must say, if you don't order a breakfast dish, there's maybe not the biggest selection in town, but between the salads, burger, poké bowls, you can find something. My two companions each got the Wagyu burger which they each loved and said was really good, and each thought their coffee was good. I ordered the French Toast which was delicious and had a nice twist to it (with the honeycomb and chocolate masccarpone) and we thought all of the dishes were well priced. The orders came out in reasonable time, and everything was presented really well. They don't usually take reservations for groups of less than eight, but they did so for us today. I'm glad they did as it started to get busy. And just before you go to pay the bill, remember to check out the pastry case. It's got some incredible looking things in there, and if I diet really well for a while before my next visit, I'll treat myself to one of their delicious baked goods.

Absolutely amazing bread, French cheese and pastries in the most unsuspecting location!…read more I would have given this place five stars, but the presentation of the actual cafe / bakery doesn't really match their amazing products. The tables and chairs are a bit daggy and it wouldn't take much at all to make this a really beautiful and attractive space. Also, the coffee is acceptable but not amazing by any stretch. They offer a yummy little spiced shortbread with their coffee (most likely baked in-house). The sandwich / baguette menu is perfect - they make these fresh to order on warm crunchy bread with their house made mayo. I don't know of any other place who does this in Melbourne. Tastes just like what you'd find in France! The sourdough range is exceptional. They also offer their signature GF sourdough also. Well worth the travel for breakfast or lunch. Friendly service. x

This is the kind of bakery with the kind of bread that you drive a few extra miles to find. Apparently it's the closest to San Fransisco style sour dough in Melbourne. I have a friend who drives from the north of the city to get a loaf. Standard bakery fare on offer and it's all really good. Only a couple of minutes off the Nepean Highway so if you are passing through detour, you won't regret it.
