"Tucked away" in a lonesome part of Brighton - as far as cafes and stores go - is The Little Ox. It's in an area much more conducive to finding good parking, and has a nice, welcoming feeling to it on the inside. I came here today on a warm, sunny day, and they have a big outdoor seating area, and plenty of room on the inside, with big wide open windows to make you feel part of the outside still. They have a great all day menu full of your favourites, and a good selection for lunch. Admittedly, I really only ordered a salmon Eggs Benny, which yes, is something I can make at home, but it was still presented well and these things always taste better when someone else makes it for you (though I would have had a side of butter with mine if I knew how dry the toast was going to be). I had a Mango Smoothie too, and that was nice, though the passionfruit inside it, almost overtook in flavour. Everyone at my table LOVED their coffees, and their burger and Ruebin sandwich were apparently great too. Overall this was a great lunch outing. I can't really fault it at all. All well priced and everything tasted good and was presented nicely. I had been wanting to come here for a while now, so I'm glad I finally got the chance and would highly recommend it. read more

This hidden gem is the kind of place that you have to be told about otherwise you would have no idea that it existed. The food here is amazing, fantastic kitchen. Sometimes I find the need to talk to the people in the kitchen and tell them how satisfied I am. I have seen on TV a lot lately the use of micro herbs but never actually eaten somewhere that put them on my dish, I got that fancy schmancy treatment here. I didn't actually need it, but it did look nice. On my way out I fell for my temptation and brought the best meringue that I have eaten in my entire life. Just before being put into the over to cook a shot of coffee was poured into the mix and swirled around. So chewy in the middle. Perfect. read more

Nice little Brighton breaky place. Try the corn fritters, they were yummers! My girlfriend says it's always been busy when she comes here, not matter what time it is. Vibrant cafe with delish food!. This place was packed full of people this afternoon but we managed to get a table in no time. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The atmosphere was animatedly alive and busy. After ordering our coffees, then our food it did take a little while to be delivered, but once it was the quality and deliciousness definitely made up for any waiting time. We had the smashed avocado w/ lemon & smoked salmon on multigrain bread and the chicken 'parma' also on multigrain bread w/ parmesan, coconut, tomato relish & amazing homemade vegetable crisps. The food was absolutely heavenly, wholesome and nice and fresh, plus the coffee was pretty good too. Can't wait to come back here! read more

I've been here twice and was grossly disappointed both times. The initial visit was a chicken sandwich that was lacklustre and didn't have much flavour. They had run out of the "special sauce" so that was the reason it wasn't up to par apparently. The second visit I had the calamari salad. The salad was very wet, soppy almost, and there wasn't lettuce, simply veggie noodles and shredded carrot in a very small bowl worth pomegranate seeds that were too hard to eat. The calamari wasn't cooked that well, some pieces were underdone. All in all, I left hungry. Having said that, the coffee is great! So well done to the baristas there. read more

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, we found this little gem in our neighbourhood and have been coming back weekly ever since. The food is consistenly good and they change the menu seasonally (in addition to daily specials), so you never run out of awesome things you want to eat. When I come here, I think, "oooooh maybe I'll have that, but that looks good too." Normally, my boyfriend and I agree to get two different things so we can try eachothers' or just straight up go halvsies. (I've finally broken down his resistance to sharing....muuhahahah *evil laugh*.) Personal favourites: Chicken quinoa salad, the Williamsburg (or Brooklyn, the variation of their Eggs benedict), sandwiches are ace, corn fritters are delish, pastries and desserts are solid, and their coffee is good too. Still haven't tried everything on the menu, but am confident that it is all delicious because they seem to have their act together in the kitchen. Quality ingredients and delicious combinations. Plus, the staff are friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Bottom line, stoked to have a dependable, consistently good cafe with reasonable prices and decent portions. Winner! Love this place. Found it through searching cafes in the area on this app. As soon as I walked in with my pram I was treated with a "hey how are you?" I was seated straight away down the back where here was plenty of room for the pram. Cafe is very spacious. Coffee ordered quick smart, long black of corse. Coffee was just the way I like it. Full of flavour and right coffee to water ratio. YUM!! I ordered the Jerusalem bowl and removed the egg but added the salmon. WOW this is amazing quite a big portion so you have been warned but wow filling and great amounts of beetroot relish and humus. I wouldn't bother ordering the salmon next time as it's such a large meal. I can't rave enough about this dish. I am excited to bring the hubby back and I will be ordering the same. Popped in for a late lunch on a rainy day. Ordered one of the specials, an overnight cooked brisket on a couscous and kale bed and caramelized onions for $20. This was one of the more expensive dishes on the menu. It was definitely tasty and arrived quickly after ordering. But some parts of brisket were a bit dry. Clean bright restaurant. Friendly and inviting staff with very quick service. Accepts all major cards. Overall a good experience, but maybe a tad expensive for the dish I had. Will most likely return to try one of the excellent looking all-day breakfast choices. read more

Food here tasted amazing, I had the blue cheese gnocchi and squash and my partner had the corn fritters with ham hock. Such a great balance of flavors and good filling portions, we both commented that it is probably one of the best places we'd eaten in Melbourne (a big feat). DON'T MAKE A COMPLAINT OR SUGGESTION HERE! I have been ordering "extra hot skinny latte" here and receiving "luke warm". I had put up with this for too long and took the glass to the counter this morning and asked who made the coffee and asked the barista to feel the temperature of the coffee. He said "do you want me to make another one" and I said "no, I just wanted to let you know. Upon paying my bill the barista said that I should have just said" the coffee wasn't quite hot enough and could you make me another one" then the manager chimed in by saying"yeah, it was patronising to get him to feel the coffee". Are these guys serious? They're now telling customers (ex-customers) how to complain. Upon paying I was expecting either a "sorry mate, I'll make sure it hotter next time" or "sorry mate, the coffee is on us". Not to be! I'll not be going back and will be telling my story to anyone who will listen. read more

The breakfast is excellent, it's pretty noisy so maybe go when you are hungry, not when you are recovering from a hangover. I had the BLAT which is served like a burger, it was pretty good, needed ketchup. read more
