I'm not inclined to writing reviews but...On my seventh week of traveling the UK/Ireland this was my 3d Indian restaurant, and my first and only un-polite experience. My favorite part of visiting UK is the well mannered politeness of its people. I was greeted by a head waiter very obviously annoyed at a solo diner taking up atable on a Friday. I politely called him on his attitude and he made an apparent effort to be polite after that. The food was by far the most un-lovingly prepared Indian food I've ever had. Even my humble third world Costa Rica's Indian restaurants would put this one to shame. The dips accompanying the papadum were mediocre. And I am almost sure my food was served with revenge level spice. Luckily I love spice. I could see him eyeing me while I ate, and cought a couple of the waiters doing the same. In on the spice revenge joke? Can't say for sure. At 67 I've dedicated my life to pleasing customers. Managed two restaurants and two small hotels, and owned a restaurant of my own. When I walked in he could have just said 'sorry I have no tables for one available' and I would have completely understood. The owner walking up and down with a haughty demeanor did not help the ambiance either. I don't understand how this place has an average 4 star review! read more

Literally the worst restaurant experience of my entire life. The food was really quite fantastic and I won't disregard that at all. But quite honestly, the whole experience started out awfully as my party of seven would end up having four different servers. The first server offered us an appetizer that we didn't see on the menu that we would actually be charged for without being told. Then the next server would literally throw our food on the table as he barely told us what each meal was. Due to the fact of the second server's unwillingness to serve us, we had to reach out to another waiter to help us out who would end up helping us fix everyone's wrong orders. Throughout all of this, we found out that the fourth person was overcharging us. Throughout all of this, the four servers were not communicating with one another. We would end up having to reach a compromise between ourselves and the manager. The customer service was awful and once they saw us trying to sort through the bill that was not properly broken down, the manager came over and laughed at us. We found him trying to charge us for food we did not order at all. I would suggest not ever going to this restaurant due to the aforementioned problems. I want to suggest that you not even begin to think to eat there. It took us thirty minutes to reach a compromise after we were laughed at by the manager for noticing that he's overcharging us. read more

Passably comfortable, variety of very good meal and friendly service. Normally I do not prefer Indish food, but this was very tasteful.

LITERALLY HELL HAS APPEARED IN A HOLE CALLED A GATE OF INDIA!!!! THE SERVICE WAS SERVED BY DEMONS AND LED BY THE DEVIL HIMSELF!! WARNING: Long review that just says they are terrible at food service. Read for your enjoyment if wanted but don't go eat there. Food was decently BUT the service was terrible. They asked if if we wanted something like it was complimentary and then charged us for it without ever explaining it. They also brought us something else out that we didn't ask for and charged us for it. One of the people in our party changed their order and they acknowledged it then brought out the other thing then chuckled when he asked for what he actually ordered because he knew the one he brought out was more expensive and then the waiter chuckled again and said oh it was just a misunderstanding. When they brought the food out they just mumbled the name of it and then just threw the dishes on the table on top of each other. Some people ordered wine and they brought out the wrong wine so they asked for the other wine. They charged us for both and tried to act like they drunk had both. When they brought out the check they refused to split the check until we said we must or we couldn't pay. They then threw a jumbled check with scribbling all over it and then wouldn't explain what they were charging us for. We tried to add up our orders and they were overcharging us. They then allowed us to go up one by one and tell them what we had. Once that was done they said we owed £20 more. When we asked them to explain the extra £20 they wouldn't. We said we wouldn't paid. They then had an epiphany and found they had marked up £3 wrong so they said £17 and we refused so they did some alien math and said we owed £10. We refused and said we would give them £5 to just call it even and the waiter stared us then fumbled around for a couple more minutes and then agreed to let us go for £5. He knew he was in the wrong so he took the money and ran to the back of THE HELL HOLE!! read more

The gates of India is a nice place to go for your Indian meal. The layout of the restaurant is lovely considering the small area they actually have. It's long and narrow but they have managed to get some lovely booths in down one side which really makes the restaurant feel authentic. There is also plenty of parking bays on the road outside and you'll be almost guaranteed to find a couple of spaces. THe food is great, and okay priced. As always, the drinks are too expensive. But this is universal these days. The staff are friendly and i can honestly say you will not be disappointed with the overall experience. read more

Awful customer service. I came with a group of friends and they tried to charge us over 20 pounds more than we spent. We knew he was trying to jip us when my friend got his pen and paper out to calculate the bill and the waiter backed down on the price. On top of all of that we had atleast 3 waiters who refused communicate with eachother. They have us several things we DID NOT ASK FOR and then charged us for it. Terrible people, okay food. been a gate of India customer for a while and its ok but always thought that it was too small and dark.the food is definatley missing something. service is average. for me its the Food and service which is the main so i checked chester tandoori out and was not pleased. (left a comment on their page so check it out) but i gotta say when i went to the Indian Flava last week, i felt like this place was something new and fresh. you could have a wedding party its that big yet still feels homely and comforting.food and service was great so check out my comment on the Indian Flava page. read more

Been here once and although small, the food is excellent and the staff very friendly. There is room upstairs for larger parties

Great food and plenty of it. The quality is excellent and the service is prompt and efficient. The restaurant when we visited was very busy but we were seated without pre-booking with only a short wait. Situated over the road from the local Premier Inn who recommended this restaurant.
