I spent a week in Trier so of course we hit up Bitburger. As you know if you've spent any time in…read moretrier, there's not a whole lot to do...after a few days I'm pretty sure I exhausted most of the activities. So of course, I steered my group to the best looking pub of sorts to drink and hang out. I ended up going to Bitburger twice, once for dinner and once just for drinks.
I was pleasantly surprised by the tomato basil soup. Trier was chilly, given that I was used to Texas weather at the time, so I wanted something warm. The soup was velvety and thick...most tomato soups have a very runny consistency but this thicker version was just the ticket. I can tell they use fresh tomatoes and cream, which made all the difference. I used up all my bread for dipping, and asked for more! And I was tempted to lick the bowl clean.
The cheesy spatzle I had was decent--not the best I've had but had a nice texture and was piping hot. The salad I ordered was pretty generic but had a nice oil and vinegar dressing.
The service was slow, but since I was not in a rush I didn't mind so much. Maybe not the best place for a quick meal, but the warm and slightly dark atmosphere makes it a great place to eat and drink with friends.
