I had the veal schnitzel and it was sublime. Yes, a schnitzel, which is a humble dish, can be superb when it's this well done. The meat was tender and flavorful, the soft breading complemented it well and the cranberry sauce was the perfect accompaniment! Finally, the potato salad that comes with it would make any German proud. Finally, what blew us out of the water was the Kaiserschmarrn for dessert!!! I don't usually add three exclamation points in my review, but this one deserves it. The portion is generous, so you can easily share it with two or three people. It comes with plum and apple sauce on the side and it is exquisite. The little bit size pieces are fluffy, perfectly sweet, and refined. It's truly the best way to end your meal.

Sowohl bei der vorherigen Recherche im Internet als kurz nach dem Betreten stellte ich fest, dass alles noch wie vor Jahren ist. Die lange Zeit zwischen diesem und dem letzten Besuch resultiert nicht etwa daraus, dass ich beim letzten Mal unzufrieden war. Es hat sich einfach nicht ergeben und das Lokal ist für mich erst nach einer langen U-Bahn-Fahrt zu erreichen. Zunächst etwas zur Location: Sie befindet sich in einem kleineren Ladenzentrum, das von größeren Wohnhäusern umgeben ist. Für Ortsfremde eher schwer zu finden, es gibt aber einen Hinweis bereits an der U-Bahnstation Quiddestraße und nochmals an der Zufahrtsstraße. Die Gegend genießt nicht den besten Ruf, eher aber von denen, die nicht hier wohnen. Mein Kumpel wohnt seit Jahren in Neuperlach und hat kein Problem damit. Das Lokal besteht aus mehreren Räumen, die Einrichtung ist einfach und zweckmäßig, aber weder ungepflegt und ungemütlich. Draußen gibt es einen kleinen Biergarten. Zum Zeitpunkt unseres Besuchs (19:30 Uhr) war der Stammtisch besetzt, insgesamt jedoch wenige Gäste da. Etwas später kamen noch weitere. Das gibts zum Essen bzw. Trinken: Die Karte ist für meinen Begriff zu umfangreich, das Wirtshaus will es möglichst aller Recht machen. Es gibt bayerisches wie Schweinsbraten (7,90 Euro), Balkangerichte und Schnitzel (9 bis 13 Euro, Steaks etwas teurer), Pizza und Pasta (ab 6 Euro) und Salate verschiedener Art und Größe (ab 3 Euro). Zusätzlich gibt´s Tagesgerichte. Also dürfte jeder was finden. Getränkepreise entsprechen dem Münchner Stadtrand (Halbe Helles 3,20 Euro). Ich wählte den Mixed Grill (10,80 Euro), der aus einem Kotelett, einem Hacksteak, einem Stück Rind, etwas Leber und Speck bestand. Als Beilage stand Pommes in der Karte, ihn gemischt mit Djuwetschreis zu bekommen war kein Problem und ohne Mehrkosten. Die Portion war sehr reichhaltig und die Qualität in Ordnung. Sterneküche natürlich nicht, was auch keiner erwarten würde. Bedienung: Der freundliche und auch lustige Kellner hatte immer wieder einen Scherz auf den Lippen, und schaute immer wieder nach dem Rechten. Getränke wurden sehr schnell serviert, Essen in angenehmer Zeit. Fazit: Ein nettes internationals Wirtshaus, das hauptsächlich von Stammgästen lebt. Wer akzeptables Essen zu relative günstigen Preisen sucht, ist auf jeden Fall hier richtig. Nicht zu Unrecht betreiben es die engagierten Wirtsleute schon seit fast 20 Jahren. Würde ich hier wohnen, könnte es mein Stammlokal werden.

But as a dedicated yelper, I will dive in a bit deeper. :-D We met a bunch of friends (We were 10 altogether) at Michaeligarten and were super excited to try their food. And we were rewarded with great Krustenbraten, calves liver, soups, and salads. The service on the other hand... oh well. We came early, the restaurant was almost empty. So we thought service might be great. But as it so often is, the slower business is the slower the service. Our waiter, let's call him Martin (I guess that was actually his name, ha) was not happy with us being there and *gasp* demanding his attention. So he was slow... very slow. And he hid from us. We had to flag down other people to ask him to come over. When we asked for stuff, he got defensive (my friend ordered a hot apple cider with cinnamon cream, the cream had no cinnamon in it, he got angry with her because HE didn't put the cream on the cider LOL. She asked him to return it to the kitchen and get the right cream. He came back and told her the chef mixed up his cream dispensers. No apology. I asked for the WIFI password, he told me their network was slow. I told him I didn't care, I just wanted to get online. He told me, my LTE would be faster. I told him I didn't have Internet since I was traveling from abroad and didn't want to pay roaming fees. He finally gave me the password. All in all, it was a nice evening because I hadn't seen my friends in over 2 years and the food was good. We had fun with Martin, because he seemed to hate us so much. And we still gave him a tip, because we are nice people :-D
