We needed a safety check on our Leaf. We told the representative about a air bag problem that Nissan said was not a safety item. Airbags will deploy but the passenger seat does not notice if a child is in the seat. We are waiting on parts. She was very rude and completely ignored what we told her. She went and did the check, charged us and said she couldn't pass us till we got the part. And then we have to come back for another safety check with the same charge. OK I understand that but we aren't due till December 31. We told her about the problem, she just ignored us, did the check for what? Horrible customer service. read more

I took my car in to have a radiator leak checked, they were very uninterested to my questioning. They found a leak in a hose, then when I paid and was leaving they told me I might need a thermostat, why wouldn't they call me and tell me that and let me know so they could fix it while it was in the shop. I think it's important for people to have all the facts when deciding which automotive repair shop to go to.  ----------Previous posting from June 6, 2016------------------ I took my car into Gary's after someone recommended them to me for a Safety Check.  I noticed my car was moved to the front of the store, with a HUGE dent on the driver's side. I assumed they were coming to tell me they had a little accident.  Nope. They said it was already there, pointing out the dirt rain spots from the other day are "on top of the damage". Right. Maybe if the huge dent was on the passenger side of my car that excuse could work, but for me to not notice something as obnoxious as that dent is a hard pill to swallow. read more

I have been a loyal customer for many years and never going back. Unsure they are actually doing the work they charge for. My last safety check cost $75 because they had to change 3 light bulbs, two for the licenses plate were not burnt out but just dim. This sucked but . . . OK. I took my car in for a problem. They could not find or fix the problem and instead did a tune-up and said it should be good. With diagnostics it cost $150. Problem reoccurred days later and I took it to a different garage. Their diagnostics found the computer code and problem immediately and they also found that despite my "tune-up" my fluids were low. This used to be my go-to shop. Glen is always polite and courteous. I am not sure what is going on but I cannot trust this place anymore. read more

I work for a roofing company, and i always take my company and personal repairs to Gary's. They call to tell me what it's going to cost, and offer any alternatives. For the people who rate the service as rude don't know local asian style. Always been fairly charged, and promptly served. read more

Service was rude and unprofessional and they over charged for their work. Will never come back or will never recommend this place. Double check all of your brake lights etc. on your car before they do the service. They charged over $30 for two 79 cent lightbulbs. Funny thing happened when I was picking up my truck, another customer said when they were told that the lightbulb was out, that's funny I had no warning indication on my car. Coincidence I think not. We have a condo in Poipu and recently were on island after 20 months due to covid. We leave a car on island and had to take it into Gary's for a safety check. They finished the work and we drove off only to return due to all of our emergency lights on our dashboard being lit. All of the belts had broken. I had my wife, daughter and two grand daughters with me and a back full of groceries and frozen items. Gary's team jumped on the issue right away and replaced all of the belts and rebuilt our alternator. I am very grateful for fitting us in and getting us back on the road. read more

less than honest. I didn't feel like getting dirty so I brought my wife's car in for an oil change and while there I ask how much it would cost to screw in an oil sending switch. the switch screws in right next to the oil filter and they told me it would be $74. lol. for something that would be less than 60 seconds. side note: I am a Caucasian and I noticed while waiting for the oil change I was the only one. so there may be different pricing base on ethnicity. read more

I honestly thought I was the only one, Im a college student, which means I dont got a whole lot of money. My safety check was due in November and so I was recommended by a co-worker to go to them because they were "fast and cheap." I went to the front desk, all nervous being that it was my first time doing this on my own. I was met with rudeness from the office lady. Horrible customer service, like really no greeting or nothing. And then was told everything passed except for my windows. what the heck. Highly recommend going to another auto service on Kaua'i. The only plus for these guys are the location of their business but other than that, they are so grouchy. These are the kinds of people that don't talk to you, they talk AT you. I was coming here for a few years for safety check but I need to go else where. Tired of the way the receptionist talks to you and even the worker- sarcastic and indignant. Here for a safety inspection. They want to charge me $18 to replace a license plate bulb that costs $4. Unbelievable. I will not be back. UPDATE: I went one block to the auto parts store. Got a replacement bulb for $3. The bulb replacement took me around 30 seconds. I know about them now. Was planning to get some work done here but will look elsewhere. read more

This place attempted to fail me for state inspection based on a faulty brake indicator light on my dash. Glen and the receptionist acknowledged my brakes are functional, but insist that inspection covers indicator lights (it doesn't). His rationale was that if the brakes develop a problem, "maybe two months from now", he doesn't want to be held responsible for passing me now. State inspection tests current functionality of the vehicle. It doesn't assume a condition that currently does not exist. If that were the case, every old car would fail because it could develop a problem. Or tomorrow a new car could have an acccident and be nonfunctional. He is clearly attempting to coerce me into paying him for a brake inspection because he charges hundreds for that, as opposed to $23 for inspection. I went straight to another mechanic and passed immediately. I am currently sitting at the dmv, ready to register my PASSED vehicle. Feel free to message me for proof in photos! read more

Very unpleasant customer service. Gary rolled his eyes at me when I told him what I thought was wrong with the car. When it turned out that I was right, he walked away in a huff and never told me when the repairs would be completed. I came back the next day and pushed my car right out of his lot. To top it all off, he left my keys in the ignition, overnight, with a window rolled down. Extremely unprofessional. read more

They wouldn't do a safety check because they couldn't see a watermark on my insurance card. It made me mad but after doing some research I found out that it's not their fault- it's the County's. So although maybe they could explain this better than they did, I'm editing my original review to be neutral. read more

Glen and E. Acob (tech) were awesome!! Glen especially was patient and helped me find the cheapest possible part, offered to let me find my own part, I deferred to him since he has more connections. He was able to find me a gas tank I needed replaced and made sure the connecting hose was intact (which was the part I most needed). He had to send the part back and made sure it was solid before starting the job. He called me and kept me in the loop while waiting on the part. He saved me almost $600 by finding a used tank that was solid. The tech completed the job in less than half a day, I was expecting longer. Truck is running great now! Glen even went as far as to have an extra key made for my truck because I had accidently locked the keys in my truck the last time I was there. No extra charge for that. I definitely prefer to speak directly to Glen as the receptionist can come off as rude. I don't think she means anything by it so don't take it personal. read more

I have never been sure if Glen?? dislikes all haoles or just this one. I am tired of his stink eye when he is asked a question. He does not pay attention and has told me I don't know what I am talking about. He has actually broken parts on my car and given my wife a bill for someone else s repair.
