What a GUY! Definite 5 star. Very professional and also easy to get along with. He was right on time, great at communication and very upfront about his services/costs. He easily could've charged me more, but made a suggestion for the best value and did a fantastic professional execution. Ironically, the piano may not have been tuned in almost 40 years and Gary new the guy who did it - in Oregon. Top notch, would absolutley call him if we had any problem and would reccommend him. read more

Gary Freel blends high tech instrumentation and knowledge with old world craftsmanship, punctuality, and honor. I don't recall our 1972 grand sounding or playing so well. Don't hesitate to engage Gary and entrust him with your piano. He'll arrive at the appointed time and perform extremely well at a fair price. read more

Gary is a tuning genius and super funny too :-) We bought a baby grand piano that hadn't been tuned in 10 years. When Gary arrived he said it needed more service than usual so he took the whole inside of the piano with him back to his studio where he worked on it for several days and then returned. It sounds amazing. He even cleaned and polished the whole piano before he left. He is a real professional. read more

Please note- Gary Freel does excellent work. He knows Pianos and is an honest man that means and does what he says. Gary took care of a very bad situation that I had with his lying cheating thief of a son Chris who claims to be a Piano technician. My advice- DO NOT HIRE HIS SON CHRIS. Chris is a thief and a liar and took me for close to $1500 for work and parts that I paid for which were not performed. Chris is impacting Gary's business and has taken others for a ride lately as well. Do not let Chris in your home. If he does show up, which is probably not going to happen, don't let him in, you've been warned. Gary however, does great work and I highly recommend him and why I gave the star rating I did. He can't be held responsible for his son's extremely poor actions. It is very unfortunate Chris is destroying his family's name and reputation and I know Gary is taking steps to protect himself and his business, please don't fault Gary for Chris' bad life choices. Gary took a really bad situation and is working with me to resolve it, thank you Gary. read more

Gary seems to have a very strong reputation. It seems our desert has yet another shortage and Chris Freel tried to fill it with fraudulent behavior. He says he no longer has anything to do with Chris Freel, but it has affected his business. Do not mistake Chris Freel for a trustworthy person or businessman just because he tries to associate himself with Gary Freel. read more

Chris finished diagnosing and repairing my Shaefer & Sons baby grand. Also, he helped me understand what the dry and hot desert air does to pianos and hence their need to tune-ups on a regular basis. He showed up on time, prices were fair and I felt comfortable having him in our home read more

I'd give Gary 10 Stars if I could. Gary knows pianos. He works his tail off for you and stands 100% behind his work. Personable too. Gary is the only authorized Yamaha repairman in the Coachella Valley and comes very highly rated by Yamaha. I have a 20 year old Yamaha Disclavier that had been neglected for the last 10 years. It is working perfectly today!!!!! Thank you Gary! I strongly recommend Gary Freel. And if you have a guitar he might even sing you a song!!!! read more

I can't fault their abilities concerning pianos, however, getting Chris to keep dates he has scheduled became a real irritation. He would schedule and just not show nor let me know. Then he would pick a date he would be available and indicate he would call with the time, which of course he didn't. There was always an excuse which were very lame. Prior I had always had Gary, the father, and he was always prompt and service excellent. I would rate their abilities as 5 star but keeping appointments not so good! read more

Charged our card and spent two months scheduling appointments, not calling to cancel and claiming to be to sick to work. The professional would have refunded the charge and gotten well. Very unprofessional. Finally disputed charge and gave up. read more

Started a project in my home never completed it I have piano parts scattered throughout my living room they will not return any phone calls.

Gary loves pianos! I am always happy to have Gary tune and service my 1942 Baldwin Grand. He is very personable and reliable. He knows how the environment can affect the instrument and what to do to keep it healthy. That makes me happy. I can imagine how demanding his workload is since there are way more pianos in the SoCal desert than there are Piano Technicians. I am happy to help remind him by confirming my appointment and by having the piano area ready for him so he can work efficiently. Thank you Gary for taking care of my piano so well. Folks, I recommend that you follow his advice to get a piano humidifier if you live in the desert. It will not only keep your piano in tune longer but it prevents cracking damage to the wood. I highly recommend that you choose Gary to be your Piano Technician. read more

My baby grand had been moved and stored several times and was sadly out of tune and had other issues as well. Gary took it apart and cleaned every little piece, realigned keys/hammers, and tuned it perfectly. He is very passionate about his work and the best you will find. read more

Gary is an amazing talent and professional. He always performs top quality work. Punctual, professional and courteous. Gary has excelled in fine tuning pianos for over 30years and is the only soul I trust with our instruments. read more

Gary Freel is a top-notch pro! He has been servicing our families pianos for years. Great follow-up, easy to schedule, and a joy to work with. He recently installed a Dampp Chaser - piano humidifier and took the time to walk-me through the process of maintaining it. His clear instructions made learning to use the new product a breeze. Gary's efficient and has a great work ethic. My baby grand and I love him - he keeps us sounding good! read more

I wish I had checked Yelp first. My wife and I are another victim of "Chris Freel" Piano Service. I put "Chris" in quotes because it seems he has taken over the business from his Father "Gary". After six weeks of missed appointments, my wife and I are very unhappy that we paid Chris for his services and he has failed to finish the work. My last email was with Gary who told me he would take care of the final work in Sept when he returns to the desert. read more

One thing you can count on with Chris Freel is that he will not arrive at the planned time. It's always something with him. If you don't care if arrives on the appointed time, or even day, then you might not be unhappy. As far as his work is concerned I can't really say because I don't play the piano well enough or often enough to know whether he did a good job. read more
