Gary is a tuning genius and super funny too :-) We bought a baby grand piano that hadn't been tuned in 10 years. When Gary arrived he said it needed more service than usual so he took the whole inside of the piano with him back to his studio where he worked on it for several days and then returned. Please note- Gary Freel does excellent work. He knows Pianos and is an honest man that means and does what he says. Gary took care of a very bad situation that I had with his lying cheating thief of a son Chris who claims to be a Piano technician. My advice- DO NOT HIRE HIS SON CHRIS. Chris is a thief and a liar and took me for close to $1500 for work and parts that I paid for which were not performed. Chris is impacting Gary's business and has taken others for a ride lately as well. Do not let Chris in your home. If he does show up, which is probably not going to happen, don't let him in, you've been warned. Gary however, does great work and I highly recommend him and why I gave the star rating I did. He can't be held responsible for his son's extremely poor actions. It is very unfortunate Chris is destroying his family's name and reputation and I know Gary is taking steps to protect himself and his business, please don't fault Gary for Chris' bad life choices. He says he no longer has anything to do with Chris Freel, but it has affected his business. Gary is the only authorized Yamaha repairman in the Coachella Valley and comes very highly rated by Yamaha. I have a 20 year old Yamaha Disclavier that had been neglected for the last 10 years. I can't fault their abilities concerning pianos, however, getting Chris to keep dates he has scheduled became a real irritation. He would schedule and just not show nor let me know. Then he would pick a date he would be available and indicate he would call with the time, which of course he didn't. There was always an excuse which were very lame. Prior I had always had Gary, the father, and he was always prompt and service excellent. I would rate their abilities as 5 star but keeping appointments not so good! read more

I wish I had checked Yelp first. My wife and I are another victim of "Chris Freel" Piano Service. I put "Chris" in quotes because it seems he has taken over the business from his Father "Gary". After six weeks of missed appointments, my wife and I are very unhappy that we paid Chris for his services and he has failed to finish the work. My last email was with Gary who told me he would take care of the final work in Sept when he returns to the desert. read more

One thing you can count on with Chris Freel is that he will not arrive at the planned time. It's always something with him. If you don't care if arrives on the appointed time, or even day, then you might not be unhappy. As far as his work is concerned I can't really say because I don't play the piano well enough or often enough to know whether he did a good job. read more
