Whenever I'm in Boston I plan to visit Gary at his store. Gary's Liquors opened it's doors in 1942, one of Boston's oldest and largest retailers of fine wine, spirits, and beer, and the crazy thing is they also have a Deli in the store. Great staff, very knowledgeable and they share some great finds. The inside isn't very big, but well organized and well lit. I love the rare allocation releases'. On this special release day we got to the store around 45 minutes before it opened. Gary walked down the line and gave everyone a free Buffalo Trace nip, that was so amazing. I was with my son and son-in-law, all 3 of us scored a rare Weller Full Proof. I can't find the Weller 107 anywhere in the state of Arizona, never mind this beauty. The line outside was well over a hundred deep, this is a testament to good business sense and customer satisfaction. They are located in a plaza with plenty of parking and easy access. read more

I went to Gary's liquor store yesterday with a friend. Night before my friend purchased a bottle of Raspberry Stolie Vodka. On her way home she must have dropped the bottle of vodka. Seal was still in tact not opened at all. I find it hard to believe that Gary would not reimburse my friend. It was about 25.00. My friend has been going to Gary's for years and he couldn't extend a courtesy to her. Gary actually had an attitude during their discussion. I told my friend let's go because I could see that Gary was not only adamant but arrogant. I will not ever go back there again. Also I will tell my friends I told to shop at Gary's how he acted and let them make their decision. Before today I liked going to Gary's and told many of my friends about Gary's. But once I explain what transpired I'm sure they will feel different. It's really mind boggling because my friend and I are working class people with decent jobs. Initially, I was going to replace it right then but my friend felt because the top of the bottle was sealed they would honor her purchase which she called immediately after it happened. Sometimes we can get so hung up on greed and selfishness not looking at the bigger picture which would be considering customers, compassion. Our business depends on doing good to others, our customers. Because we will always get it back when we do good for others. I am very surprised at the attitude he displayed. They sit at a register all day that they keep closed and do not greet any customer who walks by. I can only tell all of you how wonderful the sandwiches and salads are! They make my day when I have them for dinner or lunch. The sandwiches are very filling. The chicken Caesar salad is so filling that it's 3 meals worth of food for me! I was told from near and far people shops for alcoholic beverages there due to the great prices! I feel very lucky to live within walking distance of Gary's. They have the best liquor prices around, even compared to going to New Hampshire. The deli is a hidden gem! Their chicken liver is by far some of the best I have ever had. My family always asks for me to bring a container when I visit. Deli can definitely get busy at lunch time, but I usually just call in an order and the time quoted is generally accurate. Grocery items available also make an impromptu wine and cheese night easy. Recommend following them on instagram as they will post special events and deli specials. I was recently able to get a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue engraved for free during one of their special events. read more

Wow I'm so glad that I discovered this place! Prices are cheap, cheap, cheap and they have a huge selection of beer, liquor, and wine and even a deli inside. I used to get most of my alcohol from Costco or Blanchard's, but I'll be coming here more often now. Each aisle has at least a few selections of beer/liquor that's on sale for a ridiculously low price. Last time I was here, I bought a huge bottle of Ozeki Japanese Sake for only $10 and it tasted great and was super smooth. Check this place out and you won't be disappointed! read more

I had a nice visit this afternoon where I asked the owner or manager what his thoughts were on saving money and buying a lesser known brand? He was really honest and said that if I was mixing it that it didn't matter what brand. He could have taken advantage of me and encouraged me to buy the well known brand for TWICE the price, but he didn't. I have enormous respect for that! read more

There are some stores that offer little to no customer service that I go to anyway. Then, there are stores like Gary's Liquor that go out of their way to be rude and make customers feel unwelcome. From the moment you walk in, most workers appear to be busy stocking and offering no help to customers. The store is not laid out that well and it is almost impossible to flag someone down. When you do find someone, they are either annoyed that they are being asked for help or they are completely incompetent on the products offered. In fact, I had an employee physically try to push me out of the way as I was looking for help. You'll fine No customer service provided whatsoever and extremely aggressive employees. The last interaction is with the checkout employees. You will find them to be extremely upset and unhappy to be there. Maybe the rudeness of this place not only impacts customers, but extends to employees as well. Horrible experience for a very simple purchase. This place needs to get it together and the staff should learn some basic manners (e.g. don't try to physically push customers out of your way) . I definitely will not be making my weekly wine purchases here and will pass this on to all family and friends that live in the area. read more

Prices can't be beat for liquor. Vodka and whiskey are significantly cheaper than all other stores in the Boston area - like "fell off the truck" cheaper. Beer prices are competitive with all other stores I've been to, and wine is as well, probably more so. I spent some time comparing liquor and wine in the area. Between Blanchards, Macy's, Costco, and Gary's, Gary's won for best price on everything. Not to mention they have some great hard to find wine and champagne labels. This is the liquor store I'll go to first before anywhere else and I suggest you do too. What my ratings mean: 1 star: Horrible. I'm annoyed I wasted my time and/or money here. 2 star: Not bad but nothing special. A decent place if you can't find something else. I'd equate this to something like McDonald's. 3 star: I enjoyed my experience there and would go back to try or do more things there. 4 star: I loved it and would be excited to go back. Yes desires, because they not only have a great beer selection, liquor, wine, champ, a massive beer cooler - but they also have a deli and the purveyor of choice is Boar's Head. Get you some. They also have little tiny signs that tell you Beer Advocates' rating of stellar brews, and same goes for wine and liquor. And if you are stumped, or need suggestion the staff is top notch. I will make the trip to Gary's to stock up. They have a great selection of wines and their prices are great. I've bought champagne in there for $35 that goes for $40-$60 other places. One time I wanted to get my BF the special Cuervo tequila that comes in a handpainted box for Christmas that was $100 everywhere else. Gary's had it for $80, but they were out of it. I emailed them and Gary emailed me back right away, held one aside for me when the new order came in, gave it to me for the sale price of $80, and told me when I could pick it up. That's what I call great customer service. When my BF and I go to other places, it seems we are always making a statement about some bottle that sounds like, "Are you kidding, it's only $X at Gary's." So, I guess we use Gary's as the benchmark. It's a little crowded, but worth repeating "excuse me" to get the selection and the price. It might not be worth it to save a few bucks on a bottle of wine, but definitely worth the trip to stock up and I prefer to give them my money. read more

This spot sits in a nice shopping center off VFW Parkway in a nice section of Chestnut Hill/West Roxbury. They recently added a deli inside the place but I scratch my head and wonder why. It looks strange to have this new deli inside the entrance of a liquor store. I never see that much traffice at the deli either. The store is average size but is loaded with all sorts of wine and beer and liquor. It is a very odd setup though and you almost find yourself walking around a maze of crates and boxes and shelves. The wine selection is okay but I usually look for mostly beer when I go to a liquor store. From the beer point of view, this place does not have that good a selection. Yes they have the norm, domestics and some micro brews and speciliaties, but they don't really carry the out of the ordinary beers. I look for seasonal Sam Adams or Harpoon or even Longtrail or Seadog and they just are nowhere to be found in this place. As spread out and cluttered as it is here, you would think they would have a great beer selection. There is one small shelf area of speciality beers that I have never heard of. I would have a hard time recommending this place to anyone. read more
