Not happy. Used the app as suggested to schedule an appointment. Sat there for 45 minutes while another person was getting a haircut who was probably a walk in. Lots of conversation going on and very slow going with the haircut. Finally got up and left. That is 45 minutes of my life I'll never get back and a much needed haircut that didn't happen. On the menu haircuts are listed as 15 minutes. I would have waited 15 minutes but not over 45. I tried to review on the app I made the appointment on but wasn't allowed to because after I left he cancelled the appointment. read more

I wish I could give a negative star. Went in thinking it was a great place because of the yelp reviews. Im starting to think the people who gave five stars are all friends of his. I asked for a skin fade with a four on top. Not only did he not give me a skin fade (as close as the skin as possible) he gave me a 3 on top!! To make matters worse, he doesnt even have you facing the mirror to see what he is doing. So even if u wanted to correct him you cant bc u cant see!! He had me facing the other way the whole entire time. Even when he asked if im happy with the hair cut I asked if he can go shorter on the sides and it was clearly no lower then a 1 (if that) still didnt go as low as I wanted. Played $15 for a b's haircut n had to head straight to another barber to fix it. DONT GO HERE! read more

Gary is passionate about being a barber, period. I found his barber shop through yelp on my way to supercuts(ugh) and I haven't been disappointed. No more supercuts for me, thank goodness! He's a great local business owner and I love supporting our small businesses. He's also a long time brookfield resident. It's been nice to chat about the area we both live in. I have been here twice and both times I've been very happy with my haircut. I also started taking my son here for his haircuts. The price for both of us is very reasonable. So far I've been lucky and haven't had to wait. I go during the week to avoid any wait. Parking is no problem. The plaza is a bit old but the actually shop is nice inside. I can honestly say that the poor reviews(Alex R.) are fake and that's unfortunate. How shady that other business owners would find it necessary to leave fake poor reviews, competition I guess. Oh hell yeah! If I'm going to be banished to living in this bore-fest of a town, at least we have Gary's Barber Shop. This place is legit. DO NOT spend another penny at SuperClips or similar bargain-basement chain haircuttery. It's not worth the roll of the dice. You get some dopey beauty academy dropout and your whole day is ruined. As mentioned in previous reviews, Gary is passionate about his craft and the place is a refuge from sterile, predictable hair cutting establishments. Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel would be proud. You may indeed spend some time there shooting the breeze with Gary, so plan accordingly. Lots of vintage shaving memorabilia....it's like some kind of barbering museum up in there. I must add the fact that he did a great job on my son's hair. PS: not sure what to make of the negative review. I think that dude is a bit too knowledgeable about the guards that go on clippers. So I'm giving three stars because I don't want to trash Gary's rating, but we showed up at 11 am on a Monday and the shop was closed. As noted elsewhere, the posted hours state that they open at 10 am. Would have liked to use a small local shop but wound up at Supercuts in Danbury (which wasn't bad). As a friendly suggestion to the owner, maybe a "by appointment only" system would help until the staffing problems work out. Good luck! read more

Great place for modern male haircuts, took me years to find a barber that can consistently do undercuts - Gary is a real tonsorial artist, and great with kids - my oldest son ( 10 yrs. old) enjoys coming to the shop and actually sits still. read more

I ask for the same cut every time I sit in the chair but received two totally different cuts each time. I went there at 9:58AM this morning for a haircut, for the 10AM opening listed on their website and also on the physical door. Waited outside for a few minutes, no lights came on, went over to the nearby bicycle shop to kill a few minutes. I came back, still not open...waited longer until 10:10AM & they had still yet to even turn on the lights, let alone be ready to give someone a haircut. Was a bummer since I made a good sized detour to go here based on the reviews. And was obviously a big letdown of wasting my time & not even getting my haircut this morning. I was really impressed by Gary who took his job seriously. He finishes men's haircuts by a straight razor trim of the back and sides. He loves to talk (like me) so tell him if you are in a hurry. Heard about Gary's from a local friend-looked on Yelp and there it was. I'm long past needing a haircut myself, but my two sons get kind of scruffy looking quickly. So, to Gary's we went. It is a Man Temple. This is what a barber shop used to be; a refuge, complete with comfy chairs, with man stuff. No ferns or Muzak here. Sports memorabilia line the walls, and motor sport TV was on the flat screen. Gary is young at heart but all about the old school service, with great cuts done carefully. He offers hot shaves with true straight edge razors, with hot shaving cream. My boys looked like a million bucks for $15 each plus tip. Cash only, but there's an ATM next door. Go, relax, get a cut and a shave, schmooze, and walk out. No drama, just like it should be and always was back in the day. read more

I'm not sure how the reviews on this place are still so high when half of them since 2016 are less than positive. First off I'm never one to review online but I feel an obligation to share my experiences here. They seem to very closely match up with what others have said. I got my haircut by Gary about 5 or 6 times within about a year or so. He didn't remember me each time and introduced himself like we had never met even though each previous haircut lasted 45+ minutes. He was definitely on some kind of drug half the time and has seemed totally out of it. Sniffling at a ridiculous rate. The place absolutely wreaks of smoke and is not very child friendly. If there is more than one person in front of you might as well leave because it will take hours. I get taking your time for quality purposes but every haircut I got from him varied significantly even though I asked for the same cut every time. A couple times the cut was solid though, which is why I gave him a few tries. Worst of all though he is NEVER open on time. Way more than once I tried to get in at the posted time of 10a.m. for a haircut and Gary is nowhere to be found. Even drove around and came back at 11:15 still not open! There have even been a few times I've showed up randomly during open hours and the place is closed? Super unprofessional is the best way to describe this barber shop. Gary is a trashy guy and I only met him stopping in for a haircut. No bias here just my honest opinion. I have heard him talk about oxycodone with customers and trash other customers right as they leave. He responds to some posts about being there all the time and how you must have caught him the one time he stepped out. But that's bull, happens way too frequently with too many people to be coincidence. Oh and just to add one thing, the last time I got my haircut from him it was so jacked it was nearly impossible to fix. Still grew in all messed up. Dude was rushing me out from the start. Meanwhile he shaved half of my face, cleaned me up, and sent me on my way forgetting to do the other half asking for the payment!!! I had to say aren't you gonna finish the other half as he's staring right at my half done beard?? Clearly high as a kite. And he charges extra for a shave That was my final visit. read more

It's a shame to see that for a lot of businesses Yelp has become a forum for competitors to trash talk perfectly good businesses and business owners (Alex R. is a perfect example.) Anyways, I met Gary for the very first time just a little while ago today on advice from a good friend of mine. I decided to treat myself to a hot towel/hot cream shave service with my haircut that I was getting to look presentable for a job interview. I have to say, it was worth every penny. I wasn't aware I needed to make an appointment for this service but Gary accommodated me without one. He did an excellent job on my mop of overgrown hair and my beard and mustache. On top of that, he was very friendly (he even pointed me in the right direction for a potential job that happens to be much better than what I'm being interviewed for tomorrow!) I love the fact that I've found a very skilled local barber who knows his stuff. Gary's will now be my go-to barber shop every single time I need a cut and/or shave, and as often as I can afford it I'm definitely going to be treating myself to the hot towel/hot cream shave service. Nothing but respect for Gary. He's a hard working, knowledgeable, friendly, and highly skilled local guy offering great services at great prices. The vintage atmosphere of his shop made me feel quite at home also. This is by far the best place to get a haircut around the Brookfield area. Gary is legit. If you are in brookfield and need a cut Gary is your man. I moved to California a few years ago and was in Brookfield for my wedding. I needed a trim and I found Gary. I wish I had a barber like this where I live. Gary can cut and shave, a lost art that he thrives at. Plus the atmosphere is chill. I got a 20 minute cut and ended up chilling for 3 hours because Gary is the man. I miss a barber like this out here in California. Gary is a real stand up guy. I asked for a skin fade and delivered an amazing job. He doesn't only do fades because the person before me did ask for a cut and it looked great. He takes his time with each customer which is good of any artist who likes to deliver perfection. There could be a wait so I would call ahead first to see the wait time. I don't believe he takes appointments but something good to ask over the phone. Good things come to those who wait. He delivers a great hair cut with a great conversation. I brought my son for a haircut here several days ago. It has taken me this long to write because I have been considering what to do. I think the couple were up to some funny business. The barber blew his nose in the middle of cutting my sons hair at least three times and his eyes appeared glossy. The entire business smelled of old cigarette smoke that reminded me of a tattoo shop or bar before smoking regulations. This is NOT the place I would ever bring my small child again, nor would I return for any reason whatsoever. read more
