I believe the ferns I purchased there in May were infested with a frond eating caterpillar. After speaking with helpful staff, I learned they had an effective spray. I drove from Burlington, purchased the spray for $21.99 and a small spray bottle. I later learned the same spray, 32 ounces, was available at ACE hardware for $14.99. And the small spray bottle doesn't spray. An unfortunate experience at a business I've frequented for years. I will explore options closer to home.

I brought a couple lists of plants that were known to attract pollinators in my native state of California, and tried to ask the owner if he could recommend any VT natives from similar families (i.e. native penstemon, asters, etc.). He became infuriated during the conversation, at which point he seemed to snap and began screaming at me. When I attempted to tell him I felt like he was attacking me verbally, he responded with "I am attacking you". My partner and I left immediately, and will never return. Beautiful garden, but awful, inexcusable behavior by the owner. As a woman, I have never been more deeply offended or frightened by the actions of a total stranger. I left feeling completely violated and disrespected.

We pulled in and they asked us if we needed to borrow a saw (which we did-- it was nice and sharp) and asked us if we had any other questions. You can drive up and down the rows of Christmas trees if you don't want to walk. If you walk, they have a truck that will come around and pick up your tree for you so you don't have to walk all the way back. Once you've found your tree they offer a free "shake and net". They have a cool machine that stands the tree upright and gives it a light shake to get any loose needles out and then the wrapped it up for us in the net. You pay inside a cute little shop that offers VT goodies such as maple syrup, souvenirs, etc. Our tree cost $45 and came with a free hot coca and candy candy for each of us. For photo lovers, there's a cute wooden sleigh and wooden reindeer for kids to climb and take pictures on. I also appreciate the Christmas music playing outside. On the way out we showed our receipt and gave our saw back. The gentleman checking receipts also double checked out tie job and ensured us we'd make it back home (this was great since we were newbies to tying a tree on top of our little car). Everyone was so pleasant and helpful. You truly pay for an amazing tree and wonderful holiday experience here.

We've never had a complaint before, but, this year we, unfortunately, got charged for an 8 foot tree when ours turned out to be barely over 7 feet. I wasn't thinking about it when I paid for it until on the way home my husband was upset that I paid more and said there was no way that tree was 8 feet. When we set it up at home it's at least 4" from our less than 8 ft ceilings and that's in the tree stand that raises it a couple inches. So we paid $10 more for our tree. I don't know if that is a complaint about service since they hand you a little plastic slip that shows what to pay and I didn't see a color coded price sheet, and, it was partly my fault for having a conversation with the clerk while paying and not realizing the price was over what it should have been. They do a nice job of shaking trees, wrapping trees, helping put them in the car and have a nice "assembly line" for doing so. If White's are reading this, I would love it if you would put that extra $10 in the Camp TaKumTa jar. I have often supported that camp in memory of my little sister who died from leukemia. Thanks!

I attempted to go to Canamak Farms 3 times and found lots of plants but no people. The first 2 times I couldn't find an "Open" sign Or a sign with their hours of operation. (My Visits were between noon and 4:30 pm. Weekdays) On my third visit I found a chain across the front of the building with a "closed" sign showing hours (open until 5:00pm), it was 4:30. I also tried reaching Canamak Farms by phone twice. I left two detailed phone messages, both times asking for a call back.... Nothing. On my fourth and final visit, Success! They were open. The plant selection was ok, not a great variety of herbs. (Peppermint) and the woman working didn't know that it was different from plain Mint. I saw 3 other plants I was interested in but they had no markers. Again I asked the woman working, she didn't know . (Italian or yellow squash). She moved things around then told me yellow squash. (They turned out to be zucchini.) Not great plants, high now 2 months later, the plant I got are 50% at best. Sweet peppers had small flowers that grew to 1 1/2" peppers then simply hung there and got soft, compost. The sun gold plants were leggy when I got them and have grown some with minimal yield. Overall, I'm disappointed with their unprofessional business practices. (Couldn't even return my call, customer service is important). I understand that "hours of operation"is loosely based, it's hard work they do. Their huge SALE SIGN was the biggest thing about their sale. They offer soil, mulch, compost but only in bulk and for delivery. Neither was what I needed. Ill go back only in a pinch. Big bummer. I support local businesses not this one.

Two products on my list of "only buy this brand, or I must DIY", which isn't easy to do while traveling, and making my own socks definitely isn't happening, and receiving shipments on the road is rough. So, thank you, Guys, for carrying some of the best and hard to find products, and while located in a small town in a small state! I appreciate that they had some SAMPLES offered as well, and I do wish that ALL pet food companies and/or stores themselves, would provide samples of ALL of their food products! My dream!!!!!!!!!!! Pet treats especially, are FAR more expensive than human treats, and mainly for me: Having just one 9# senior dog (PICKY, SO SO SO PICKY) and while having many complex health issues to include severe gut issues and severe allergies, and life on the road.... I throw a lot out already, on top of the constant dietary changes as needed and preferences ......... Okay- so, any pet food store would HATE ME if I took them up on any offer to return opened pet foods she's not wanting to eat. You'd BAN ME from your store. So, stores providing SAMPLES ARE MY FAVORITE! Even if they were to cost some amount of money - (these provided here did not..) samples are so spectacular. YES TO SAMPLES! I hadn't started anything and sure as hell didn't give it just 3 stars! That being said, let us begin! Downtown Burlington! What a very unique, wonderful little area. Full of restaurants, name brand stores, bars, quaint little shops like this one, a wide open area lined with stores that gives off very Ithaca Commons vibes. The Commons back in the day were the shiiiiiiiit! Sadly nowadays...it's too commercialized. Burlington, VT tho...not so much. Sure they have a Patagonia store and some other bougie ass stores, but it still has that super chill vibe which made me happy. One bad thing...LOTS of homeless! LOTS! I get they are homeless, but wow! For a tiny city like Burlington...it's kinda mind blowing how many homeless they have all over the downtown area. Does that take away some of the magic that is..Burlington? Sure! Maybe a little! Then you come across adorable little stores like Home & Garden Vermont. What a (and I never use this word .. like ever lol but..) what a charming little store. Little bit of everything in there. It's the type of store that tourists absolutely love. Even the high prices don't seem to phase most tourists...then there is me haha! I'm cheap af. So appreciating these types of stores is more my cup of tea lol. Although, I came close to buying a few things in these little stores. My brother and I would see something and be like "let's check the others to see if the prices are any cheaper" They. were, not. Haha! If you saw a very cool Stowe or Burlington t-shirt in one store for $33 ... best beweave..it's $33 in the next one. These stores make their money regardless of cheap fks like myself...and I'm glad they do, Stores like Home & Garden Vermont add so much of that amazing magic that is felt throughout the downtown area. The staff is beyond sweet. Very nice lady helped us when we were there. Very bubbly, smiley, just an incredibly nice human. I did go up to her tho and told her that her store gave off Schitts Creek vibes. Yall remember, Rose Apothecary?? For some reason, parts of this store very much made me think of Patrick and David in their little Schitts Creek shop haha. The employee laughed and she said "all we need is David and we'd be set" haha! Rose Apothecary, now that I think of it...a lot of the stores around downtown are quaint like that. However, Home & Garden, I actually felt like it was like..a sister store of Rose Apothecary haha! I loved when David and Patrick opened that store in that series. I love love stores like that. So it was kind of special to walk in to this store and immediately feel that. Even my brother agreed. So I know I'm not like crazy haha. Store is very nice. Nicely laid out. They pay close attention to details in Home & Garden Vermont. They know exactly where to place everything for maximum exposure. Their front windows are even very homey to look at for the "window shoppers" What a great little shop. This was my first time ever in Vermont. I grew up in upstate New York, too! I know this will not be my first and last time in Vermont. Autumn on the east coast is something that is like no other. As a photographer, VT is like a dream come true during Autumn. Point of me saying that is...I know I will be back and I look forward to going to this little store again and all the others around the downtown area. Seeing as my family is still in upstate NY, yeah, I know I'll be back. Home and Gardrn VT...thank you for a very pleasant experience. You certainly will never be forgotten.
