From the moment I walked in, I could tell this office operates at a completely different level -- they even had my name on a welcome board, which was a really thoughtful and personal touch. I met with Dr. John Polivka, and what stood out immediately was his depth of knowledge and professionalism. He took the time to thoroughly explain my situation and, more importantly, helped me understand the difference between working with a true orthodontic specialist versus a general dentist offering Invisalign. It was eye-opening and gave me a lot of confidence that I was getting the right guidance. There was zero pressure -- just honest, expert advice focused on what's actually best long-term. The entire team was friendly, organized, and made the experience feel easy and comfortable from start to finish. If you're considering Invisalign or any orthodontic treatment, I would highly recommend coming here first. You'll quickly realize you're dealing with true specialists who care about doing things the right way.

They have many locations across the metropolitan area, which makes scheduling incredibly easy if you're willing to drive. They also sent all forms electronically ahead of time, which made check-in very smooth. The office is a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. A gentleman behind the counter greeted me warmly, which I appreciated. The rest of the check-in experience could have been better. When I approached the counter, a woman at a computer about 7 feet away (left of the front desk---possibly the "check out" station) did not make eye contact or offer a greeting. Instead, while looking at her screen, she said, "What's the name?" in a way that wasn't clear she was speaking to me or the gentleman standing behind her. As a first-time patient, that moment felt abrupt and not as welcoming as it could have been, especially since I wasn't sure the question was directed at me. I'm mentioning this specifically so the office is aware, because simple adjustments in communication can make a big difference. It was also the Friday right after Thanksgiving, so I understand it may not have been the easiest day for anyone returning to work. Still, a little more acknowledgement would've helped set a more positive tone for a new patient. My cleaning was where I had the most concern. The flossing was unusually forceful, snapping hard between my teeth and hitting my gums, causing sharp discomfort. It felt rushed, almost as if she was under a six second countdown. Afterward, I noticed a piece of floss stuck between my teeth. I also had to ask to have the back of my front teeth polished. This was very different from any of the past cleanings I've had. I'm assuming the hygienist may be new or was simply having an off day, which can happen, especially right after a holiday. Despite the cons, there were clear positives: the convenience, the warm greeting from one male staff member, and the smooth electronic check-in process. I do plan to give the office another chance because the potential is definitely there for a better experience.

I needed a dentist that also did Invisalign. Upon first consultation she told me I had to go to CHT Orthodontics in Hinsdale (which turned out to be big money $$$$). Dr Lucario wouldn't do the Invisalign since she claimed my case was too complex (even though I've already had braces once before). First hiccup. Then most recently I contacted their office in November 2022 regarding a cracked tooth. This has been next to impossible to get an appointment with Dr Lucario. I'm not sure what the change is but they tried to have me see another dentist named Dr Layne. Granted I have to admit I have some on going health issues outside of the dentist that have made me had to reschedule my appointment. It is now April 2023 and I don't have my tooth fixed or the 4 cavities taken care of. I woke up sick the other morning and I get it most doctors and dentists offices are hyper sensitive about patients coming in with germs since COVID. So I did the courtesy of telling them I could not come in because they make you fill out a Covid questionnaire prior to your appointment. I got a text message response about the cancellation of my appointment and that Dr Lucario could not see me until July!!! I'm not sure if this was a tactic to push me away as a patient. I asked how could a general dentist have a 3 month wait list. Ridiculous by the way and of course they didn't respond. I'll be attaching the text messages. Either Dr Lucario or her office staff is texting back but they basically dismissed me and my question and said here are your X-rays. What a shame.

She said, "Oops!" and didn't say anything else, just paused for a long moment and then kept going about taking off the rest of the brackets. When I asked what happened, she said, "It's okay." At the time I was young, 23, and not especially assertive. Dr. Tahir checked me out and approved and I was on my way. I'd had no idea what had happened until I got home. Today, every time I run my tongue along that second-to-front tooth, I am reminded of this mistake that went unaddressed. This was an expensive set of braces. I wish they had been more honest at the time, because young people don't yet have the tools to advocate for themselves. An office with integrity will be sure to address any mistakes on their part.

So uh I'll let Jewel get my 101st review. Let's move on. First, I'm weird. I was excited to get braces, and not for the obvious reasons. I really thought they looked cool. I didn't care that one day they'd be removed and my once crooked teeth would look presentable. Nope, I liked the process of getting to that point. Being able to choose different colors every month made every appointment seem like Christmas. My teen years, well more specifically 14-17, were pretty special. I embraced every aspect of awkward with pride. I'd only be able to live through these colorfully gawky days once and I made the most out of it. The staff at the office were all very friendly. Dr Grud never had to really do much to my teeth after he put the braces on. His assistants were in charge of rubber band replacement. However, the one time he DID work on my teeth, I bit his finger. I felt pretty bad, and he called me a turkey afterward so we're even now. He was wise to leave the rest of the work to his assistants. I saved this for my 100th review because without this orthodontist, my constant smiling and laughing might have scared off some of the people I can now call friends. Thanks.

HEED THIS WARNING: PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO ALL NEGATIVE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS LOCATION!…read more I am appalled, disgusted, and beyond disappointed by my experience at this establishment. From the very first interaction, it became painfully clear that this office operates with an abject disregard for customer service, respect, or basic human decency--especially toward African Americans. Let's start with the financial department, which is nothing short of a disgrace. The individual in charge of this area was shockingly rude, cold, and utterly devoid of the professionalism expected in any service-oriented business. It's one thing to prioritize payment--it's quite another to treat paying customers as though they are nuisances. The blatant lack of courtesy I experienced was not only unacceptable but offensive. The first time I visited, I begrudgingly chalked up the dismissive treatment to the fact that it was an emergency visit. However, the second visit erased any doubts I had about the systemic issues at this office. This time, I came prepared with insurance, yet I was still made to feel as though I was asking for charity. I waited for an unconscionable 90 minutes past my appointment time without a single word of explanation. When I sought clarity, I was met with dismissiveness so cutting that I left the office without even being asked if I wanted to reschedule. There wasn't an apology, a shred of empathy, or even the most basic pleasantry of "Have a nice day." It was clear they didn't want my business--and after this, they certainly won't have it. And let me be frank: this office is NOT welcoming to Black clients. Every non-Black patient who walked in seemed surprised, if not visibly uncomfortable, by my presence. The message was loud and clear: I didn't belong there. Their treatment only confirmed my suspicion. The discomfort I felt was palpable, and no one--not the staff, not the other patrons--made any effort to ease it. This is a disgraceful way to run a business in 2024, and it should be called out for what it is: discrimination. To the receptionist team--if you can even call them that--your behavior was deplorable. One individual attempted to force a façade of politeness, but I've lived long enough to recognize insincerity when I see it. You cannot cover up disdain with half-hearted niceties. The only redeeming factor in my entire experience was the dentist who assisted me on my first visit. She was kind and professional. But let me be clear: no amount of kindness in the back office can compensate for outright hostility and mistreatment at the front. I am an educated, discerning professional, and I demand better. This establishment's behavior is unacceptable on every level, and they should be ashamed to operate with such blatant disregard for Black customers. Losing my business is not just a loss of one client; it is a warning to countless others to stay far away. To the management, you have failed. I would like to hear directly from you as to why this is the standard of service you think is acceptable, especially for Black patrons. To anyone reading this review: spare yourself the anger, disappointment, and indignity I experienced. Take your business elsewhere, where you will be treated with the respect you deserve.
