The idea of building a 2-section funky fence near my patio served two purposes, one to screen my patio area from my neighbor's backyard, and the other to save me money from having a higher, longer fence along the property line separating me from my neighbor. I also loved the concept of adding some bluestone stepping stones into the existing patio (made of pavers) and extending the stepping stones into the yard to lead someone from the patio into the backyard. The trees, shrubs, and plants continue to thrive years later. The variety of textures and shapes is lovely.

Williams Landscaping has been cutting our grass and doing spring and fall cleanup for several…read moreyears.  They have done a pretty good job- not stellar but no major complaints. Recently, I came home after they cut our lawn and found they had cut down the plants in 3 areas of my garden.  While there were weeds in 2 of these areas, there were also perennials I had planted. These are areas under maple trees, so it is extremely difficult to get things to grow, and this year was the first one where some of the plants had finally started to flourish. Williams Landscaping has never done anything other than cut our lawn and clean up leaves. They were not asked to address these areas, two of which were clearly marked with stone borders as garden areas and had irrigation tubing in place. This happened about 5 weeks before we were planning to have a wedding in our backyard.  The areas that were cut down looked awful, and the crew didn't even clear out what they had cut down - so not only was it bare instead of lush, but the beds and  paths were covered with slowly dying plants. While this was frustrating and upsetting, I recognize someone made an unintended mistake. It's the way the owner responded to this that is the reason for this review. When I told William Perez what had happened, he didn't apologize or express any concern whatsoever. He ignored completely that I was upset about how our yard would look for the wedding.  He didn't ask what he could do to make things right or make sure the backyard would look okay for our wedding. He did tell me more than once that he was a busy man.  What he conveyed was not regret for the inconvenience caused but annoyance that I was bothering him.   I told him I would buy some plants to replace some of what was cut down (he didn't offer to do this for me).  He eventually said he would pay for them, but it's now a month since I sent him the receipt and I've yet to get a check or any response regarding his intention. He eventually sent someone over to do the planting for me, but he scheduled this entirely at his convenience and he refused to give me any idea when during the planned day they would show up. The crew showed up after 5pm, after I had waited at home the entire day.  I will say that the man he sent over was very nice, polite and did a great job. I have no complaints about that - just about the owner. So now, with our wedding a few days away, we have a handful of plants in place.  It looks reasonably good. I bought the plants.  I cleaned out and mulched the beds after the gentleman who was sent over planted them.  Mr. Perez has not honored his promise to reimburse me for the plants.  And he has never apologized or expressed any regret. He doesn't respond to messages.  It's hard to understand how someone running their own business in a service profession feels no need to even pretend he cares about his customers. Honestly, I've never dealt with anyone in a similar circumstance who behaved this way.  It would have taken very little on his part to make this experience completely different and have me recommending his business in spite of the error. While Williams landscaping is okay for basic yard care I would never use them for anything else - certainly not for masonry, landscaping or anything substantial.  The owner's attitude is pretty much "take it or leave it", and don't bother me because I'm a busy man.

We have seen their previous project at the Old Oak Dojo and really liked the idea of a functional landscape that meet aesthetic purpose, yield edibles as well as fitting in the native eco system. Noah is very knowledgeable of different plants and flowers so conversation with him has always been very educational for us amateur gardeners. He has also been very accommodating from the consultation. He listened to our needs and concerns before coming up with a customized plan that fits our property and budget. The project includes a low dry-stack retaining wall, plants that would help stabilizing the soils since we live on a hill, perennial flowers/plants that support each other and blooms at different time, and irrigation etc. The installation was under a short deadline so that we can have our wish of throwing a post-wedding party in our yard. Noah, Cheryl, and Karen moved very efficiently and accomplished the project before the deadline and within budget. The project also includes post-installation maintenance as the first year is crucial for the garden to survive. We are very happy to find Restoring Roots and will definitely consider using them for future projects.

We bought a condo in the Woodburne neigborhood of Jamaica Plain a year ago. One of our first…read morepriorties after we moved in was to deal with the backyard landscape, which consisted of some scraggly grass patches and a few hostas. There wasn't a lot of space to work with but I was sure that a little patio would fit between the house and the garage. I started contacting landscape design and build firms in March 2015. Most larger firms were already booked for spring, and when a couple of firms came out in June, they indicated that our job was too small for them to consider. Our realtor recommended Restoring Roots. From the first visit Karen was enthusiastic about the possibilities for our little space. She listened to our concerns and needs--one of the biggest concerns being that as new home owners facing a lot of projects, we wanted to consider a design plan that we could implement in stages. Karen came back to us with a detailed and comprehensive plan for our little space. After multiple negotiations with our condo association, we decided to move ahead with the patio construction in the fall and put the planting and construction of a sitting wall on hold until Spring. The bluestone patio was completed right before Thanksgiving. We are very impressed with the quality of the work and we think the patio looks great! We hope to have Restoring Roots back in the Spring for the next phase of the project.
