Lemon pudding for dessert

Okay, my mom had been here for 10 days now and I can say that so far I've been very pleased with this facility. My mother suffered a stroke and came here for rehabilitation. I read the reviews for the convalescent side and I have no comment, my review is strictly about the short term rehab. My mother sees a physical therapist and occupational therapist daily and from what I've seen they are true miracle workers. My mom is almost 79 and I was afraid that they'd push her to hard or that she wouldn't improve but with the therapists hard work and dedication mom is getting stronger everyday. The facility is always clean and it doesn't have that "odd odor" that most convalescent facilities have. They bathe the patients twice a week, as well as washing them up on a daily basis. My biggest fear about leaving my mom here was that they could possibility mistreat her but I'm happy to say that that fear was quickly diminished. My mom has constant visitors and none of them have ever complained of seeing or hearing anything out of line. One thing for sure is that every facility is always going to have pros and cons but as long as the issues are handled in a timely manner I have no complaints. When I did have an issue I went straight to Mike Espinoza and he immediately took care of my situation. When I came here for a tour my mom was going to be placed in a room with two roommates. When I enquired about the private rooms I was told those rooms were for patients who needed to be quarantined from the other patients. I explained that my mom couldn't see the TV's in the regular rooms and the private rooms would be better but I totally understood. But to my surprise when I came back with my mom they had prepared a private room for her. We were so very grateful. I hate that my mom had a stroke and had to be in a convalescent facility but I'm grateful to God that we found the Gardena Convalescent Cons: They could use more lighting in the bedrooms. The TV's could have larger screens. Especially for those with poor vision. Additional Pros: the daily activities for the residence are really wonderful. The residents are awakened, dressed and highly encouraged to participate. The food is rather tasty. The nutritionist is on duty and can be addressed with any concerns or adjustments to ones diets. All in all, my mom has been here almost three weeks and so far we are extremely pleased

LOL don't know WHY or HOW i ever gave this place 5 stars - it must've solely been based on the activities and PT people because every other aspect of this place is hot garbage!!!! This review is 2 years in the making. When my grandmother came here after her second stroke - they nearly killed her due to negligence and incompetence. She had a strict diet that was in her file and on her daily food chart. Yet nearly everyday, thank God i Work part time so i was able to sit with her for most meals, they got her food wrong. She was given red meat, food high in sodium, cholesterol, pork, and eggs instead of egg whites. She was ignored when she wanted to get out of bed (due to the stroke she needed assistance) and given excuse after excuse when we asked why. My mother and i had to practically hound the staff and JONAH everyday to ensure she was well taken care of/not given the wrong food - which could lead to another stroke. (We only kept her here because it was close to home and the amazing PT staff). Fast forward to a few months ago and my cousin was sent here after she broke her knee. She was luckily not treated nearly as poorly as my grandmother was Until she was discharged. She was sent medicine to the center on Saturday after being discharged Friday since she can't see her doctor for another week. Due to their staffs incompetence and/or a flaw in their protocol, the medicine was sit back and i was literally told by the head nurse to, " go home because this will take a while." She also insisted that I go drive to my cousins house (because she's deaf and i can't call her) to ask what her Home pharmacy is to send the medicine there instead. I went to the office to ask for JONAH, he answered when i asked the front desk clerk if he was there, but as soon as i said my and my cousins's name, he suddenly got quiet and unavailable. So rather than assist a clearly upset client, he hid in his office and offered ZERO assistance or even an apology on the matter. So i say all of this to say, do NOT send a loved one here!! They truly show how little they care about the people when it wreaks of vomit and feces up and down the hell and they say "close your nose" rather than "we'll get right on that". DO BETTER GCC! *UPDATE* added 1 star for Jonah calling, apologizing, and personally delivering the medicine with flowers to our door. Thanks. Not deleting or giving more stars because that would be dishonest and misleading.

My mother has been here for six years I know its not home but I haven't had any problems as of yet,it was a hard choice for me to make but everyone made me feel welcome, this is my second home I love that my mother enjoy all the activities that they offer. The staff helps my mother a lot thank god.

My 91 year Aunt is currently residing at Kei-Ai South Bay in Gardena since December of 2023. I am…read moreso happy about her being at this Facility! Torrance Memorial provided me a list of 8 facilities in the South bay area to choose from. I started going to visit them one by one. On my journey, Kei-Ai stood out from the rest in terms of cleanliness, appearance and Leadership Team. I met with the Admissions Director, Cintya, for a tour. She was very knowledgeable and thorough. Upon my Aunts arrival, I was able to speak with Jeff Tabor, the Administrator. Jeff was great, very personable and took the time to speak with me about my Aunt's care and answer my additional questions as well. April, the Director of Social Services, was also very helpful in guiding me and answering questions regarding DPSS. Since my Aunt has been there, I am impressed with the Nurses and CNAs and the attention that my Aunt is receiving. My Aunt has Dementia so it is critical for her to be in a caring environment and her needs are being met. The rehab has been going well and she is progressing! I have visited at different times of the day to check to see how my Aunt is doing as well as my friends. We have found her to be neat and clean and attended to. The floors are clean and the bathroom is kept. I am also impressed with the recreation agenda, Bingo, Karaoke, etc. Anyone who is looking to find a place for a loved one needs to feel comfortable that they will be taken care of in their absence. You will find that peace at Kei-Ai South Bay!

I've been coming to gardena physical therapy for myself since 2011and have have been treated with one on one good service. You get a workout in there. They help you hands on all the time. I've had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder in 2011 and thanks to Gerard and Chuck im at 100% like no surgery has ever happened in 2018 I had back surgery on L4,L5 with an infusion, plastic disc, bracket and screws. Again thanks to Gerard and Chuck. I can bend down touch my toes, twist, turn etc with no back pain at all. Now im back for 2025 for a left leg fractured fubula. I had to fight to get back to gardena physically therapy for this injury due to my insurance had changed. Before changing over i called to verify their insurance plans just to come back to them. Because i know if the helped me with my speedy recoveries on my prior injuries i know for a fact that they would help me back on the healing path for this one. This place is always welcoming, clean, friendly, making time for you, understanding. I can go on and on and highly recommend them and yes ive tried another place which sent me back to them. I was rushed for my therapies, didnt have one on one. Put it this way didnt get treated like i do at gardena physical therapy. Lastly. When i came back they where cleaning with fabuloso lavender scent which any lavender i am allergic to. The care and concern on my health and well being grabbed attention by Jamie and she changed the cleaning solution to lemon scent because of me . A friend of mine told me that they had gone there before and filled me in on the best parts of what they have to offer. I was very excited to try it out and get relief from all the pain and tension in my body. However, I quickly realized that the expectations that I had in my head did not align with reality. The location itself is on the first floor of a building and to enter the building (from the parking lot), you must go through a security checkpoint. They don't allow vapes, sharp objects, or metal canteens, so if you have any of these items, you will be forced to turn around and go back. Upon walking in, there is no signage indicating if there is a line or where to form one; when it's busy, there is a jumble of bodies you must try to navigate. There is seating around the walls, and it is usually loud in the reception area. If the receptionists aren't talking on the phone or amongst each other about their Starbucks order, you will have to try and force eye contact for assistance. When seeking assistance, if you interrupt them, you are treated like an annoyance. The whole experience felt overwhelming and the uncertainty of what to do or what to expect added to it. My first visit, Kash, a physical therapy student, was very nice. His instructions on what to do were clear and after he did an assessment and asked some questions, a plan for therapy was formed. When I finally returned for my second visit, this is where things got a whole lot more uncomfortable. I don't know why, but I had envisioned working one on one with a trainer. This was not the case. Apparently, when you are finished, you have to flag down one of their staff to be told what to do next. They started me on an arm machine by the wall, very close to the speaker and it was so loud, my ears were hurting. Thankfully, they turned it down. After starting some leg exercises with Kash, he stepped away. I assumed he would return but was unsure of when that may be. I continued my exercises and scanned the room for him. A short woman with fair skin and straight black shiny hair came up to me. "Are you done with the exercises?" she asked haughtily. "Oh, I was waiting for Kash, so I figured I'd just keep doing them until whatever is next." She grabbed the paper up from next to where I was sitting and said, "Well you need to let us know when you are done because we have things to do." I said "Oh, okay," and after she instructed me on what to do next, I spent the rest of the day wondering if I did or said anything that she may have taken offense to. After all my therapy was done for the day, I asked if she had a printout since I wouldn't remember the exercises. The same lady told me, "We don't do that here," very curtly and then walked away. I felt disheartened and wondered if I should even bother going back. After talking it over with a friend, we figured maybe she just had a bad day. This time, things seemed to mostly be ok, except it was jam packed with staff and patients. At some point, I was on the massage table, waiting for instructions on my next exercise when suddenly, the building got quiet and there was a large roar. A college basketball team on the television screen had scored a basket, and every single staff member on the floor abandoned what they were doing to huddle around the TV (it was March Madness). In all my time there, I felt that most of the staff were only engaged in talking with each other and that the customer service skills there were very lacking. At least this time, at the end of everything, Kash did give me a printout for some exercises. The final straw was when I missed a second visit. I had missed a visit before due to a pressing health issue I had to attend to. I had mentioned to one of the receptionists that I did not want to schedule an appointment before I left the country due to me possibly forgetting. She persuaded me to set one and then change it later, against my better judgment. Three weeks go by and I missed the appointment because, of course, I forgot to put it in my calendar and now someone from the office is calling me to tell me that I now have to speak to the manager and they can only accommodate me if I call in day-to-day. I have a literal disability that the staff should have been well aware of (I had written it down on my intake forms at the very beginning and mentioned it multiple times, to multiple staff) and none of their policies, procedures, or staff (except Kash) seem to accommodate a person like me. On top of that, I felt personally bullied by one of their team members on the floor. I thought about calling them to see if they could make this right, but I was on hold for about 10 minutes, which seems to happen pretty frequently. Overall, I am very disappointed. Gardena PT, do better!

She was prescribed Norco and Gabapentin to manage post-surgical pain, which left her in a weakened state, and she was discharged to a rehabilitation facility of our choosing. After touring several facilities from Providence's recommended list, we selected Beachside Post Acute. We chose Beachside because we needed a facility that specializes in both physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT). It's a cozy, thoughtfully designed property in a breezy part of Torrance, conveniently located near both Walgreens and CVS. The building appears to have been a converted motor lodge, with a single-level layout that wraps around a central outdoor courtyard. This design allows each room to have either a window or sliding glass door, providing natural light and fresh air--something we found especially valuable. The PT staff have access to a dedicated room with specialized equipment, and both the main corridor and courtyard are used for assisted therapy sessions. There's also a recreation room and dining area where patients can enjoy meals outside their rooms, offering a welcome change of scenery. The kitchen serves nutritious, genuinely tasty meals--I can personally attest to that. What truly sets Beachside apart is the staff. They are compassionate, attentive, and clearly take pride in their work. To those who may read this--Susan, Marisol, Julius, Eva, Kimberly, Bryan, Alyssa, and everyone else--thank you. However, my experiences with the nurses at the 200 station have been extremely disappointing. During multiple visits, I felt as though my questions were an inconvenience. The staff at that desk were not approachable or helpful, and their demeanor came across as "why are you bothering me?" I initially thought it might have just been a one-time interaction, but unfortunately, it happened more than once. When I went to other nursing stations, the staff were polite and willing to assist, which made the contrast even more noticeable. I understand that many facilities are understaffed and that healthcare workers are under a lot of pressure. I can be patient and understanding if someone is busy or brief. What was upsetting, however, was the dismissive attitude. When I asked to speak with the head nurse about my dad's condition, I was met with visible eye-rolling (yes, even behind a mask it's noticeable) and told to "write your note on a blank paper," after which the nurse looked away as if my concern wasn't important. On another occasion, I asked for help opening the family room, which was supposed to be open at 8:00 a.m. It was already 30 minutes past, and this was the second time I had asked. The only response I received was, "Well, it should be open," followed by being ignored. There was no offer to check on it or find someone who could help. Bringing a loved one to a facility like this is already emotionally difficult. A little kindness and basic courtesy go a long way. I hope this feedback encourages management to address the attitude and approach of the nursing staff at the 200 station. It would make a meaningful difference for families who are already going through a challenging time.
