GCC honestly exceeded my expectations in many ways. The facility is very clean and they take pride with daily cleaning. The administrative staff is not only friendly, but knowledgeable. The CNA staff is a group of people that are well trained and also take pride in ensuring each patient feels as if their room is an extension of home. The physical Theraphy daily regime fits perfect for people looking for a staff that are excellent in their craft and define a regime that meets your requirements and objectives during your stay. GCC was in my top tier of selections to transition to after my hospitalization, but the entire staff surpassed my expectations. Some of the nurses, the janitorial ladies and maintenance crew were rude and disrespectful, talk to patients with bad attitudes. Few of the staff there were pretty nice though. No air conditioning, and also they were against patients opening up their room windows for fresh air. They allowed patients to blast their TV almost to the max volume late nights after midnight. Sometimes the food wasn't well cooked. A lady name Robin who worked there, at times she wouldn't open the door for patients after we went out back to smoke cigarettes. Such an unprofessional place, I definitely give this place a thumbs down. I was a patient there in early 2026, wish the Doctor would have sent me someplace else, it was a bad experience there. read more

I spoke with the office, I was pleased. The nurses and staff I met were wonderful. Attentive to my questions and concerns before I left him in their care last night. I am grateful my husband was given an opportunity to come to this facility for short term care and physical therapy after his stay at the hospital. He was rejected by other facilities because of his dementia however, it is one hour away from him being here for one full day and I smell and see dried feces on him. It must have been on him for awhile. I was only gone for 4 hours before returning. I can actively see a breakdown in his rectal skin (an intro for bed sores), it wasn't there yesterday when I changed him. I'm torn on this review because of the positive experience I have had so far. I realize they have many to care for but there are some that need more attention than others. Unfortunate. Disappointed? You can't believe how much and it's the weekend. Okay, my mom had been here for 10 days now and I can say that so far I've been very pleased with this facility. My mother suffered a stroke and came here for rehabilitation. I read the reviews for the convalescent side and I have no comment, my review is strictly about the short term rehab. My mother sees a physical therapist and occupational therapist daily and from what I've seen they are true miracle workers. My mom is almost 79 and I was afraid that they'd push her to hard or that she wouldn't improve but with the therapists hard work and dedication mom is getting stronger everyday. The facility is always clean and it doesn't have that "odd odor" that most convalescent facilities have. They bathe the patients twice a week, as well as washing them up on a daily basis. My biggest fear about leaving my mom here was that they could possibility mistreat her but I'm happy to say that that fear was quickly diminished. My mom has constant visitors and none of them have ever complained of seeing or hearing anything out of line. One thing for sure is that every facility is always going to have pros and cons but as long as the issues are handled in a timely manner I have no complaints. When I did have an issue I went straight to Mike Espinoza and he immediately took care of my situation. When I came here for a tour my mom was going to be placed in a room with two roommates. When I enquired about the private rooms I was told those rooms were for patients who needed to be quarantined from the other patients. I explained that my mom couldn't see the TV's in the regular rooms and the private rooms would be better but I totally understood. But to my surprise when I came back with my mom they had prepared a private room for her. We were so very grateful. I hate that my mom had a stroke and had to be in a convalescent facility but I'm grateful to God that we found the Gardena Convalescent Cons: They could use more lighting in the bedrooms. The TV's could have larger screens. Especially for those with poor vision. Additional Pros: the daily activities for the residence are really wonderful. The residents are awakened, dressed and highly encouraged to participate. The food is rather tasty. The nutritionist is on duty and can be addressed with any concerns or adjustments to ones diets. Don't put your loved ones here. My brother was here for months, and they swear in their loving website pictures that they take the best care of their patients, which is a load of bullcrap. The place looks rundown on the inside and people standing all over the place doing nothing. It's like the people come here as their last resort or come here knowing they will be leaving this earth soon :( My brother was sent home with bed sores and no kind of strength whatsoever. Why the hell do you have so many nurses and your patients are treated horribly!!! They need to be shut down!!! read more

LOL don't know WHY or HOW i ever gave this place 5 stars - it must've solely been based on the activities and PT people because every other aspect of this place is hot garbage!!!! This review is 2 years in the making. When my grandmother came here after her second stroke - they nearly killed her due to negligence and incompetence. She had a strict diet that was in her file and on her daily food chart. Yet nearly everyday, thank God i Work part time so i was able to sit with her for most meals, they got her food wrong. She was given red meat, food high in sodium, cholesterol, pork, and eggs instead of egg whites. She was ignored when she wanted to get out of bed (due to the stroke she needed assistance) and given excuse after excuse when we asked why. My mother and i had to practically hound the staff and JONAH everyday to ensure she was well taken care of/not given the wrong food - which could lead to another stroke. (We only kept her here because it was close to home and the amazing PT staff). Fast forward to a few months ago and my cousin was sent here after she broke her knee. She was luckily not treated nearly as poorly as my grandmother was Until she was discharged. She was sent medicine to the center on Saturday after being discharged Friday since she can't see her doctor for another week. Due to their staffs incompetence and/or a flaw in their protocol, the medicine was sit back and i was literally told by the head nurse to, " go home because this will take a while." She also insisted that I go drive to my cousins house (because she's deaf and i can't call her) to ask what her Home pharmacy is to send the medicine there instead. I went to the office to ask for JONAH, he answered when i asked the front desk clerk if he was there, but as soon as i said my and my cousins's name, he suddenly got quiet and unavailable. So rather than assist a clearly upset client, he hid in his office and offered ZERO assistance or even an apology on the matter. So i say all of this to say, do NOT send a loved one here!! They truly show how little they care about the people when it wreaks of vomit and feces up and down the hell and they say "close your nose" rather than "we'll get right on that". DO BETTER GCC! *UPDATE* added 1 star for Jonah calling, apologizing, and personally delivering the medicine with flowers to our door. Thanks. Limited staff to support the number of patients. Gabby was great at the front office. Robin the nurse can be rude and short. My relative was there for a month, she was in her wet diaper for hours when I visited. No one responds to call button for long periods. Emmitt was helpful. Overall not very good. read more

Despite the "friendly" appearances portrayed in the smiling staff photos on Yelp. This facility is by all mean the antithesis of friendly or welcoming. The receptionist seem bitter and are by no means helpful or compassionate which is strongly projected onto people visiting. The staff appear very unhappy and they're appearances are rough, disheveled, and over worked. I have no interest in this facility as I find it to be very unprofessional and a depressing environment. read more

My sister stayed at Gardena Convalescent Center for a month to receive rehab( My sister was at Country Villa Convalescent Center a month prior in Glendale for 21days COVID quarantine, she dislike the facility, the staff and she wanted to leave!). My sister can be difficult at times, can be a nightmare to any nursing staff, cafeteria staff, etc! She does not like being at convalescent centers! My sister is not ambulatory and she has limited use of her limbs. She loved being at this facility because of the staff's professionalism, patience, kindness, helpfulness, positivity, and compassionate attitudes! She loved the Therapy room! She raved about the dedication and motivation of the physical therapists! She made remarkable physical improvements because of her therapists being motivators and having expertise! When it was time for her to be discharged, she did not want to leave! She had thoughts of making Gardena Convalescent Center her permanent home! I will definitely recommend this facility to anyone needing the convalescent care! read more

I was recently there to visit my father who was admitted for short term rehab. When I approached the front office I didn't receive a very warm welcome, a receptionist by the name of Jillian seemed to care more about her social media status than me who was right in front of her, I felt as if I was bothering her more than anything else, sometimes I would walk right by the front office and not a single hello from her. She's unprofessional, when she came into the room where my father was she asked me to sign some paperwork without an explanation. I'm not the type of person to complain but this type of behavior needs to be addressed. As well as her team mate Asulema I believe that's her name, they both are so caught up with themselves and there phones, no wonder when I call this facility the phone just rings for long periods of time. read more

My father was released from the hospital & a rep from this center told him he should come here for his recovery. He wasn't able to arrive until after midnight which he called prior to allow the receptionist from the previous shift aware of his late arrival. When he arrived the 3 female receptionists from their night shift immediately started treating him horribly. They wouldn't check him in even though he had his packet. They told him he wasn't scheduled to be there & that the hospital should have called them about his late arrival, not the patient. He just wanted to sleep & they would not let him rest. Even though he was invited to stay there just hours before, they were unwelcoming & basically told him they didn't want him. He said the facility was filthy & decrepit. He ended up leaving because of the night staff's behavior. He did not check in but when I called them the following day for an update, they stated he did check in but decided to leave without giving me a reason as to why. I'm sure they just noted that he checked in so that they could get paid through his insurance company. Do not let your elderly parents stay here, have them go somewhere that actually treats their patients with care. read more

Like the other reviews state the staff treats the nurses pretty badly. If you cannot visit your loved one daily DO NOT put them in the center. My great grandmother had a stroke while under their care and no one called the ambulance until we arrived... She was left in a dark room alone to stroke out. She passed away because of this. When I went to let them know she passed Jonah literally asked me to rate them on yelp... While I was grieving. He was there when we needed an ambulance looking and never said one word. The nurses there are wonderful but they treat them so poorly that the turnover rate is very quick. I appreciate them for the purpose they served but if I had it to do all over again I would not leave her there. We went DAILY. Staff lied on us, at times she was laying in bed drenched in her own urine... We literally fought with them DAILY. Things got done because we made sure it did not because they did their jobs. read more

First and foremost I would suggest reading all reviews entirely. I don't see any reviews written by previous patients or current ones. At present, I am a patient at Gardena convalescent center. I have also been a patient at two other convalescent facilities, one in Paramount for about two months. Ive been in many types of medical facilities as well as being a student in the Registered Nursing program some years back I mention this because I do qualify on multiple levels to be able to compare and contrast this place with many others and I believe I can give both an objective and subjective review. I am 58 years old and am ambulatory, therefore I see a lot and have seen a lot. I'm leaving in the morning and have been here for about 19 days. By far this is the most outstanding facility I've been in. I say this not because the staff caters to your every need or the food is comparable to a 5 star restaurant or the building is in top shape and the equipment in the Physical Thearapy room is state of the art. It is because the staff is friendly and professional. Everybody knows there job and seems genuinely happy or at the least content. I really wish I could name everybody in this post by position and first name, they deserve it. The best way to proceed is to address the facts. Starting with the core of the place, the CNA, RNA and Activity staff employees. Almost every single one goes above and beyond. They all care for their patients, they are protecive and kind and very attentive. Really I haven't seen that type of commitment in a while. There is one CNA that stands out, Yessica so cheerful and kind and always working hard, she really is rare.Now the LVN position here pretty much lead the medical care as far as administering all medication, advocating for the patients and so on. They carry a heavy load. Having such a responsibility and having to be in charge of many patients make them seem unavailable, nevertheless I've never had a time when they have been rude or didn't get back to me. They have MDs,.Nurse Practioners, Optometrists ect.. floating in and out. There are very few actual RNs but they are here and there and seem to be a little more behind the seen. More administration type. Ok the laundry, janitorial and housekeeping staff work like all the other staff. Friendly yet no nonsense. They know there jobs well and have really good attitudes. The maintenance team is always at work painting, doing floors, fixing electrical and so on. Now to keep it real I had a small plumbing issue, since it effected me directly it of course was an emergency and I expected it to be resolved immediately! Not happening I actually had to use another bathroom. Seriously I was upset about it after thinking about it for a few minutes I realized everybody was doing the best they could. We had to wait to the next morning. I survived. Ha ha that's the worse problem or situation I had.Moving on the food is really good. I'm very surprised as it's obvious much effort goes into most of the meals. One lunch was so good I took a picture of it.The head cook came to me when I first came and ran everything down to me and I had my nutritional needs met. Impressive. Now we have The director of Nursing Myrna, extremely dedicated, smart always multi tasking. As busy as she is, her door is always open and she always helped me. Believe me I needed help in alot of ways. Then we have Elsa, another efficient hard working individual.Being the only Social worker she like many others wears alot of hats. I had many interactions with her and we resolved every issue. Before I finish I feel the need to mention although this facility is outstanding and runs realitivley smooth. Many of the employees mostly the Core nursing staff and leaders work extremely hard. Those on the front lines here are always on the move and seem like they wish they could do more but simply have no time because they have to many patients. Hey I'm just calling it how I see it. Again, not enough time to mention everything and all who helped me but to name a few who were my floor nurses, a real pro Cynthia the Med nurse friendly easy to approach but always extremely busy. The activity staff Paula and Barbra so friendly and always concerned made sure that the patients were doing ok. Now the favorite place for me was the physical therapy, I was comfortable and happy there. The staff total pros. We did not speak much it was not really necessary. I did what I had to and am greatful for all the support. last but not least Administration. Again very professional . Jonah is a no nonsense Administrator. A definite leader and hands on for sure. Ive seen him on several occasions talking to patients and addressing their concerns. I spoke to him myself several times and he was always kind and professional. Bottom line, if I ever have to go into another nursing center that would have to be it and more importantly I believe it to be a truly safe place to be for any patient. read more

There are some very good things going on at Gardena Convalescent. One is that the snack carts roll several times a day, and there are supplemental items to choose from that are designed for the light eaters. Then, there are people who come and ask how you are doing, whether you are a resident or the family of the resident who is visiting. The cleaning people are always busy, taking care of the floors, the doors, the windows, the bathrooms, etc., while the arts department maintains the walls, schedule postings, holiday decorations, and patio effects. Mostly everyone there is like a family, and when people come and when people go, someone always asks how they are doing. It is not a place where people are just a number. People are residents with life stories and are able to still be who they are, as much as possible. One good thing easily visible is the number of balloons and themed decorations that appear from the activities department throughout the facility. Another is the "beloved whipped sweet potatoes" and the braised cabbage that are served on occasion, which are my Mom's favorites. The PBJ sandwiches are made with care, and there is care taken for residents who have few teeth to safety enjoy the cuisine, along with the jello that is served for the light eaters. No one is forced to eat heavily nor is it required to be heavy or over eat at the facility. Each does what he or she wants to their individualized level of comfort. Then, the CNAs, LVNs, social worker, activities people, office staff, and administrator come by, just to say hello. Even other residents socialize with each other. Various languages are spoken and understood, so communication is generally very open, plus there is respect and understanding of non-verbal residents, some of whom can use PEC cards to convey their wants and needs. read more

Barbara, Mae (sic), Irma, Olivia, Toni and Elizabeth primarily provided care of my husband, and I must say they are exceptional caregivers. I did encounter a couple of problems, which were quickly and professional addressed by Medic and Jonah Weiss, the administrator. its the worst place ever. my cousin told me her dad was there for a week or so, and when they discharged him they didnt gave him hes wallet until the following day and he had 90 dollars or more missing from hes wallet!!! i told her to report it to the police so i dont know whats gonna happen, the case worker Elsa who had the wallet says she doesnt know anything about any money missing, of course shes gonna say that. be careful i WOULD not recomment this place, plus the employees are rude!!!!! read more

I really struggled where to put my grandfather, once we couldn't care for him anymore. My doctor recommended this nursing home, and although we're saddened by not being able to nurse him ourselves, we couldn't be happier. The administrator, Jonah, bends over backwards to help us with anything. The nurses are always smiling and helpful. The other reviews here got me scared, but it looks like they've gotten a new receptionist, and the nurses are trying really hard. Thank you, everyone, but being so wonderful to my family! When I was 66 I was swimming in the ocean and had a mishap with a wave...needless to say they flew me to Westwood in a helicopter and ended up cutting my spine. Now spinal cord injuries take a long time to heal. I have been living in GCC for 5 years now...now this incident that happened when I was 66 was a complete turn about from my lifestyle- before this incident I was completely independent and I took care of myself. Now I am completely dependent on other people to do the most intimate and necessary things for me. I had a couple of experiences with different facilities and the thing that I was missing most of all was compassion. I was craving the respect and quality of love I received as a child growing up from my mother. I understand the quality of kindness in every act that affects healing. In other facilities, I felt that people were coming to work, getting paid minimum wage, weren't completely involved (or didn't show that they cared)...this place here- Gardena Convalescent- measured up to the standards of what I was looking for. So I have been here now for 5 years and just recently I started receiving therapy from Joe in the rehab department- he designed this wrist splint that is phenomenal and has given me so much improvement in the last 2 or 3 weeks. I just want to recommend this place highly, the fact that I've been here for 5 years indicates that I certainly have deep love and appreciation for everyone here. read more

my mother stayed here for 6 days after she fell and had an orthopedic injury. We were extremely impressed with how friendly the staff was, it was unbelievable. My mom wanted to stay even after it was time to go. All the nurses gathered around her for a nice group picture, and she remembers all of them fondly.
