I am currently 49 years old and a surviving breast cancer patient. I had gone in with concerns about the heaviness of my cycle and I was totally dismissed. I was told it was very normal for my age. I asked for a Transvaginal ultrasound and was told they normally don't do those. Finally she agreed to write the script. I was made to feel like I was being an alarmist. I left in tears. I eventually got the ultrasound done. I found out in my patient portal that I do have a polyp and fibroids.... A week later and they still haven't called with results. I'm just floored. read more

I've been at patient at this huge and thriving practice since the mid-1990's. I prefer female doctors and they boast wonderful ones; I even like one who is a bit stern/cold. ALL of the doctors that I have seen here are thorough and LISTEN to what I have to say. Dr. Colella delivered my son in 2004, via C-section (his suggestion - THANK GOD! - b/c my son was a "beef!" and Im relatively small). Tremendous call, as is his "bed side manner." Whenever I call and leave a voice mail on the nurse line, my call is promptly returned. The U/S technician, Patricia, was FANTASTIC. Polite, informative, kind, and gave the most gentle exam (of this sh*tty type of one). The office recently was remodeled and lives up to the standard of their fantastic MEDICAL staff. The office staff .... not so much! Too bad you have no clue which staff member to go to with their confusing front desk area. Talk about a deer caught in the headlights! THE FRONT DESK STAFF ruins my Yelp rating. They are AWFUL - like cackling hens! They openly discuss their personal lives, how much longer until they go home and food (on this particular visit anyway). The woman who checked me in recently inquired about a past-due bill that I paid LAST SUMMER and was arguing with me about it in front of EVERYONE there! W T H ?!!!! Super unprofessional! (in my younger days, I would have been embarrassed as all get out!). I blasted her and told her that I took care of the bill last year (she asked how I paid - how in Hades am I supposed to remember that one?!!! - what a such-and-such!) before I could even make an appointment and that I was upset already about the ultrasound & biopsy that I had to get and that she was "making me even more upset," which was very true. After the "sheep" all looked at each other, one said, "I'll print you the information and you can get it on your way out, and you can call about your bill." I have yet to open the envelope. If the doctors here weren't stellar, I would not reccommend GS OB/GYN to anyone because the front desk staff (IDK if ALL of the employees stink). I feel sorry for new patients. Do not go to this practice at all and protect yourself and your baby's health. They will not go over your results with you and expect you to just read them on the portal even though they don't upload all results to your portal. They don't see you at the right frequency in the third trimester and don't do routine urine tests even when you raise concerns of swelling. They are putting their patients in severe danger. read more

OMG. This is the most unprofessional Ob practice I've ever been to. When you hear the staff talking about one of their doctors having his umpteenth affair this time with their midwife and he left his wife and kids.........I'm appalled, at both the doctor's and nurse's disrespectful unprofessionalism and at the staff. I have no doubt there's probably many patients who may know the children of these two idiots. Way to go. Explains why every interaction with this office has been so disorganized and chaotic. Great way to run an office. This kind of thing is apparently rampant here. Poor representation of doctors and nurses/midwives. I will no longer go to an Ob who I can't respect. read more

I've been going to this practice for about 20 years, they delivered both of my children. No complaints there. However, their day to day operations leave a lot to be desired. It feels impossible to connect with a live person. Their automated systems takes forever. Leaving a message on either the nurse or prescription line doesn't typically get you a call back until your second or third try, and then they will act like you are incorrect about having left multiple messages. Their lengthy automated answering system that you have to listen to every time you call recommends going online to schedule an appointment, which would be great if the system actually worked. It won't allow you to schedule until after you're actually due for your annual, at which point, if you are using any prescriptions, you'll still have to call and get stuck in the automated system and voicemail labyrinth. I am going to look for a smaller practice that feels like it is actually run by living breathing humans. read more

Treated horribly here after pregnancy loss. Never followed up with me on genetic testing results and billing has been a cluster. I've been trying to get an appointment for 3 days and finally got in touch with their answering service, who hung up on me when I asked if they were too busy to accommodate a confirmation appointment for me (again, this is all after a miscarriage.) Very upsetting and glad I found out how awful they are prior to going any further. read more

This is my second bad review of this office, NP's and doctors. I called 2 weeks ago and asked someone on the "nurse's line" to interpret an old lab result as ordered by one of their doctors. I was just asking for clarification. I was told they needed to see it and a doctor would need to interpret it. My fax machine was down, so I mailed it to them with a cover letter asking for a reply. (They no longer had it in their computer system as it was more than 7 years old.) I never heard from them. And my letter did not come back, so I called. No one could give me any information. Bottom line, if you want attentive service, competent doctors and staff, don't go here!!! read more

Garden State is awesome. I was referred to the gifted Dr. Bowers by my Gyn because she was (has been) waiting on her robotics credentials from Penn Med. At first I was apprehensive about interacting with Dr. Bowers, who worked me into his extremely busy schedule the day after my usual Gyn recommended him. My worries were for naught; he is a very nice man and a gifted surgeon! He is quick and efficient without skimping on bedside etiquette. His manner put me at ease and he is self-assures without a trace of arrogance. I also want to give a shout-out to Dr. Bowers scheduling nurse, Amanda Nitzky. She is wonderful. She bent over backwards in every imaginable way to schedule my surgery. And she was also so pleasant and well-versed. Heather Sims was also a huge Godsend. I needed a letter for my employer to excuse me from work for 4 weeks following my surgery, and Heather issued me a letter on the same day that I requested. Words cannot express how grateful I am. I had to have major abdominal surgery at Cooper 4 years ago for the same reason I had a hysterectomy: large, rapidly growing fibroids. When I went through Cooper for my 2014 abdominal myomectomy, I had no point of reference for how a well oiled machine works for surgery scheduling, pre-op, post-op, and inpatient care. Comparing Cooper to Virtua is impossible and baldly unfair; there is no contest. Looking back, I see that I kind of got hosed at Cooper. After my surgery in 2014, I spent about 12 hours in the recovery room and hallway until they could find me a bed. They found me a bed all right. My roommate was addicted to pain meds, and to say I got no rest between her yelling into the phone at her husband and screaming at the hospital staff is a gross understatement. I also had to wait 30-45 minutes any time I paged a nurse. To top it off, the inpatient nurses at Cooper were not friendly or caring at all. They were extremely indifferent and acted like I was a Demanda the handful of times I paged them during my 3-day stay. I was also prescribed Percocet even though I told them I was allergic (I'm not truly allergic, but Perc makes me violently ill, i.e., projectile vomiting. It was a passive aggressive thing to do. I took two doses my first day home and stopped immediately because of the nausea and the heart palpitations Perc gave me. I'm glad that the Virtua staff took my history with Percocet seriously. They sent me home with Tramadol, and it's been great!! While I am eager to return to my usual Gyn, I am so grateful to Garden State AND Virtua Hospital for treating me like a human being instead of another number. read more

I'm figuring that the guys will be more interested in the "GYN" part of this business than the "OB" part..... I will make this short and sweet... Usually only go here 1x a year for annual checkup but had an unfortunate freak incident about a week ago and had to go - 3x in one week. They have about 15 doctors as well as very capable Nurse Practioners. I unfortunately got a female "biage" doctor that I never saw before and she was MEAN. She looked mean. She acted mean. She talked mean. She walked mean. She was MEAN. Not only did she misdiagnose me but didn't give me proper tx and had the absolute worse bedside manner I have ever encountered. If I wasn't in such a "fragile" state, I would have spoken my mind but I was at her mercy. I went back 2 days later and saw the nurse practioner, Joan Kiley, who should be a doctor, and who took good care of me. Everything else besides the biage is above average...no waiting, always nice at front desk, very large and clean building. They would have gotten 5 stars but the BIAGE took it away! Let's hope I don't have to go back there anytime soon! read more

I started coming here while trying yo get pregnant to see Dr. Mackey since she had good reviews. I have made appointments with her twice and the first time I was pushed off to a nurse practitioner who was forgetful and gave me a rough exam. The u/s machine was so old she could not measure or get a heartbeat which was really dissapointing. Then the pharmacy called a week later and asked when I would pick up medication that the NP never called to tell me I needed. The second time I tried to see Dr. Mackey I waited in the waiting room for over an hour. When they finally put me in a room they tried to once again push me off onto a NP, but at least they asked this time and I chose to wait. I will not go back here again. The staff is just too cold and impersonal. read more

I didn't show up to my apt because I work at a facility that is currently having a Covid outbreak and I woke up with a sore throat. The First Lady I spoke to said the nurse would call me back and possibly fill the prescription for me. False. I got a call back saying unless I come for my annual I will not be getting anything filled. The reason I am not going for my annual is because I am moving to a new state in 2 weeks where I would like to establish a new obgyn. After telling them this, they still refused. The problem I am having right, I will not put on the internet but, is pretty serious, and can only be treated with medication. It is now clear to me this place is only out for money they charged me a no show fee even though they tell you not to come in if you have Covid symptoms. They're supposed to be doctors to help people. I understand a business needs to make money, but this is not the way I clearly need help. read more

I've been coming here for about 9 years. They are open late. Every weeknight they take appointments up until 8:15pm. The wait is never bad. I've had paps by various females here (since I don't like male gynos) and found them mostly to be nice, professional and caring. I have frequent uti's and this place can't seem to be bothered by them. It is like I am being an annoyance when I call and complain about another one. Last few times I've had a uti before being pregnant they've told me to go to my primary or the ER as they couldn't get in right away. Now that I am pregnant they get me in a lot sooner when I am having an issue but there is major inconsistency between the doctors. I have numbness in my left leg and one doctor tells me it is nothing to worry about while another is really concerned and tells me to see a neurologist. My most recent appointment with Dr. Joann Swift was terrible and I left in tears. She pretty much told me that my pains and complaints didn't matter unless the baby was in distress. She said that unless I have preclampsia, gestational diabetes, am hospitalized or the baby has some type of abnormalities detected that there's nothing she can do for me. I felt like she didn't take me or my complaints serious. Because of her, I will be switching practices. I sure wouldn't want to wind up with her in the delivery room. read more

This is a great family of doctors. I've never in my 10 years going here have had a bad experience. Yes some people have good days and bad days, yes some people are more sensitive than others (especially when going to *this* type of doctor). I can honestly say - I don't see myself going anywhere else but here. I've seen a variety of doctors and nurse practitioners in my time here and I can't think of one I wouldn't recommend. I've moved out of So. Jersey and I still come here. Actually I still recommend to my friends to come here (and most do!) It's worth it, once you find a practice you feel comfortable with, still with them and let them know you are happy there. My favorite is Dr. Kay - he is great. Caring and takes the time to talk to you and any questions you may have. I know this is a weird place you review, but I'm fine, open and confident to tell people Garden State is a great place. Appointments need to be scheduled in advance, like most doctors you can't just look for an appointment the week you call. So be on top of your game and schedule your appointment! Don't complain you can't get an appointment if youre not on top of your ish. read more

Clean office, friendly front staff, short wait times (if any). I had a medical issue going on and even though the outcome was not what I liked the care and compassion that the staff (from the ultra sound tec to the physician) showed me was wonderful. I was able to have my procedure scheduled at the hospital very quickly, they checked in afterwords, and the follow up appointment was wonderful. Even when I was having difficulty later on following the procedure, the nurse practitioner was wonderful and compassionate and made me feel like I was a person, not just another patient. This practice is a true disappointment. I had been a patient with them for many years until I relocated out of area. I am now back in the area and after several weeks of attempting to get them my updated records via the archaic means they require, as well as innumerable conversations with their staff, they refused to take me as a patient and refused to provide any explanation. I am in good health with a run of the mill second pregnancy after a run of the mill first pregnancy. Their ridiculous and heartless treatment has wasted my time - now at almost 36 weeks pregnant, I likely will not be able to find a new provider before I give birth. I will never seek out or recommend their services again. read more

I have been a patient at GS OB-Gyn ( now Axia) for many years. The office is well run, the staff friendly and has the wonderful and talented Dr. Bowers. I had to come back and give a review. I would of thought after all this time they would improve the way their front desk handles calls, well it seems to be even worse now. I called and THREE TIMES was put on hold for a period of about 4 min each, last time I told the lady before you place me on hold for the third time can u tell me if I should leave a vm to get dates on certain procedures I had done, she tells me she can help but that she was in the middle of a report when I called. (NOT MY PROBLEM HONESTLY) If she was busy I could have just left a vm with the nurse. then shes all huffy and puffy when I ask for MY dates of service! Doctors, nurses, and staff were mostly very friendly and knowledgeable. They were easy to approach and happy to answer questions. The major problem with this office is wait time. Seeing a nurse was no problem--usually we'd wait around 10 minutes. But after we were seated in the doctor's office we always waited at least 30 minutes and frequently OVER AN HOUR. There is a simple solution to excessive wait times: PUT MORE DOCTORS ON STAFF! Again, I really had mostly very positive experiences with this office but the wait was just unacceptable. Nobody seemed to care either, though I complained numerous times. read more

Dr bowers delivered our baby at Virtua, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The delivery did not go as planned but dr bowers was very competent and confident, and delivered our baby safely. Midwife Casey was awesome too! The Virtua nurses were very attentive during the 2 days after delivery. I have high standards and was very impressed. Thanks again! read more

I started coming here when I was 16 years old and am now 28. I always had an average experience but only ever went for my annual. I called 3 weeks ago to get a prescription for prenatal vitamins and had the WORST experience ever. Instead of handling the behind the scenes insurance logistics like a normal doctors office should do, I've spent the last 3 weeks calling their office, my insurance company, and the pharmacy trying to get them to fill out a pre-authorization form (which is very routine). After about 5 calls, the nurse says that prenatals aren't covered by my insurance. That's incorrect since I actually talked to my insurance company but I'm so tired of calling a million different places that I'll just go OTC. Awesome guys, thanks for helping me out and making me wait 3 weeks for a vitamin. read more

I was a patient of this practice for 23 years. went to the office to get a referral for a mammogram because I found a lump on my breast, front desk told me ok we have a np who can see u now I was soo relieved she then asked for my insurance card which I gave her that's when I was told they didn't participate with my insurance and they couldn't see me I was obviously beyond upset I offered to pay for visit and explained I was scared and a patient for 23 years how could u not see me they refused I was told to go to ripa center down the street and that they take my insurance. long story short office is obviously not about patient care. side note - it was my 50th bday that this happened......devastated, hurt, disappointed read more

I've always had a fine experience with their physicians and practicioners. However a 4 month wait for an annual visit with, as I told the receptionist, "literally anyone qualified to perform a pap smear" is absurd, especially when this is an enormous practice. I chose an enormous practice because I don't feel compelled to develop a 1:1 relationship with a doctor and wanted flexibility and availablity for appointments. Good for them that they're so big they don't care to service their patients any longer. Moving on! Too bad.... read more

They misdiagnosed molluscum contagiosum as HPV, and didn't even bother giving me anything for it.. they could have suggested I see a dermatologist, instead they freaked me out like I had a horrible STI. Also, any time I call to ask a question or two they're pretty rude.. I'm not crazy about them. read more

These people are rude! All of the medical care I've gotten has been fine, but the wait is unacceptably long and both the nurses and the people at the front desk could really benefit from some manners. They are extremely strict about appointments but don't send warning if you need to make one, making it virtually impossible to receive proper care if you travel a lot. They are also terrible at answering phones and getting back to you on time. Basically, this is a nasty combination of disorganization and meanness. Will not be going back. read more

I have been a patient for 24 years and I just called to make my annual appointment. The first question she asked me was if I had Obama care. I said I have AmeriHealth; she continued to let me know I might not be able to be treated there. The women said she works there and she has Obama care and she can't even be treated there. Sad for her that the doctors there can't even give her care. I guess they provide insurance that is too expensive for their own employees to get. I am paying for AmeriHealth and I will find a practice that treats their patients with respect. read more

I went online to find Garden State's website and saw these reviews by accident. I wasn't planning to leave a review but changed my mind after reading some previous comments. I've had about six GYN appointments since I started going here and have only good things to say about this practice. Although I see the same doctor, I have interacted with many staff members at the front desk and on the phone. Everyone has always been kind and helpful as have all the nurses in the back. I am usually seen pretty quickly but have never minded when I've had to wait. When the doctor is delayed, he's spending time with someone who needs it, and I know I will receive the same care and consideration when he gets to me. The doctors/surgeons here work long hours at the hospital and clinic, so I've never minded if I have had to wait. I have also never been rushed out. On the contrary the doctor always listens intently to my concerns without interruption, examines, diagnoses and explains clearly and thoroughly, and then answers any follow up questions I have. The compassion and dedication of my doctor is what brings me back to this practice, and I am grateful to have found such excellent care. read more

I started going to the office in 2010 and I really liked dr. Rosen who I saw often..they were great until I started a dressing my infertility issues...they didn't really seem to have any interest in helping me...they put me on clomid which didn't work...I asked them to test me for pcos numerous times because I had all of the symptoms...they refused...after my 3rd round of clomid didn't work I went in for my clomid check and saw dr. Thau...she was nasty....she had no bedside manner and told me that because I'm morbidly obese I can't have a child...which is funny to me because I don't even weigh 200 lbs lol...im not a twig but I'm no where near obese...that was last year...im moved th florida over the summer and just saw a new obgyn down here last week...and was diagnosed with pcos...so thanks garden state for putting me through 3 years of hell. Not to mention getting them to send my records was like pulling teeth and they myseriously lost half of the information on my medical record. read more

I stopped going to this practice and will NEVER go back! This is my first pregnancy and it is high risk. When I called to make my first OB appointment, the receptionist gave me a problem because I had gotten blood work to confirm the pregnancy done by my family doctor. During my appointment, the nurse practitioner (and I did request a Doctor) was not interested in listening to me nor even looking at the files I had brought with me from other specialists,all she was interested in was telling me not to eat certain cheeses. She ignored my husbands questions about the crucial testing and when she did a sonogram, she could not find the fetus that was 9+ weeks! (The radiology center that we eventually went to the next day was baffled to why the nurse couldn't see it!) No one in the practice was interested in helping me set up time sensitive testing that 2 separate specialists insisted on. When I finally got heated enough on the phone, trying to get them to do SOMETHING to help me out (they insist I had to wait 10 days and attend a 2+ hour appointment where they would set me up with some of their specialist to get test that I had already received) I was asked to come in to talk to an actual doctor. That doctor spent the appointment degrading me, insisting that I was being irresponsible and not getting prenatal care. She refused to read the paperwork I had brought with me, told me that she would not order the testing that the IFV doctors and genetic councilors were advising, but if I signed an agreement, she would happily charge me $200+ dollars for an STD test. There was no history that would cause me to need this test, and it seemed like all she wanted to do was insult me and get me to leave the practice. Mission accomplished! read more
