We had worked with two other landscape designers before finding Earth Element Designs, but the…read moreothers just couldn't seem to find designs that worked for us. Jack came over to look at our (then) all-dirt side yard, and after talking to us for about 5 minutes, he picked up a stick and started tracing lines in the dirt and throwing out ideas. We knew immediately that he was the right guy. Twenty minutes later, we had a pretty good initial design roughed out. It looked great when completed, and has become more beautiful as the plants have grown in. After that success, we asked Jack to redesign our front yard, which is now gorgeous: we love the design, and we have gotten many compliments from neighbors and guests. Jack has a special gift for visualizing a cohesive design, taking into account the surroundings, dominant features, viewpoints, etc., and then placing structures, trees, shrubs, ground cover, lighting, etc. , and putting it together so everything "works". He asked us what we wanted (low-water, use some existing plants, living areas, seating, cost concerns, etc.) , and came up with a detailed plan, including suggested plants and lighting, that he went over with us. He suggested a nice variety of interesting, low-water flowering plants and succulents. In some cases he was able to use cuttings from our existing plants, which helped to tie the yard together as well as to control costs. He was never bothered when we had questions about things, or with changes; working with Jack was an enjoyable and collaborative process. Powerhouse wasn't the first company we called, nor were they the cheapest -- but we got an immediate sense from the owner Jack when he did the initial walkthrough and bid that we would be in good hands if we went with them to replace both the driveway and garage flooring. I think it is the up-front and transparent manner in which Jack approaches his business. He let us know up front all potential pitfalls, gave us a wealth of information about types of concrete, and even told us up-front that our original choice of Pavers had the potential to cost us more in the long run. Well-informed, we decided to go with stamped concrete with rebar, and within a week the jackhammers were knocking all the old stuff out. His workers were friendly, efficient and finished in a week. We are extremely happy with the end result, the customer service rendered, and value we received for the product.
