ATMOSPHERE: Cozy and cool, the simple space has a few lounge and bar counter seats with a small stage tucked away in the corner. The entertainment changes nightly I believe as we saw two different singers, both of who were good. BEVERAGE: Mokka Martini So far, the best in PV. Intense coffee flavor, well-balanced alcohol ratio and chilled perfectly. SERVICE: Bartenders were talented and friendly. TIP: 500 pesos minimum for credit cards. OVERALL: A nice alternative to the thump a thump bars and clubs. It's not a late night kind of place as the entertainment stops around 11p followed by the crowds so go early. read more

This is now my second vacation to PV and like last time, time we spent each evening after dinner at Garbo's. The various entertainment is great! Sunday night was hands down spectacular. The song alongs were great, and so much music played to make everyone feel welcome. If you enjoy piano bars, broadway and movie musicals, and relaxing but goid times, you'll enjoy the entertainment. The drinks are decent priced and there are many martini varieties and drinks to choose from. While I preferred the Etta James, Moka Martini, and the Kahlo, my friends had the Garbo, Sophia Lauren, and others and repeated their orders. Garbo might be Puerto Vallarta's only gay piano bar. It's old school in a pre-2000 way, and its patrons like it like that. The pianists are talented and enjoyable. They also sing. We were there on one of their birthdays and it was fun. The bar has a number of classic cocktails and original ones too like the Prince Harry. Vodka, fresh lime juice and house-made ginger syrup in a martini glass. Pretty good. Sometimes customers get up next to the pianist and singalong karaoke-style without the words on screens. Beautifully appointed piano bar with comfortable seating and bar stools is a very inviting space. The bartenders are very friendly and welcoming. Rude receptionist We walked in to join our friends at the bar and we were sitting down next to them and then they had to leave shortly after we got there. Then the front receptionist woman came over and slammed down two reserved signs and said leave. Extremely impolite and unprofessional. She did not even come over to apologize or explain to us that they had a reservation waiting or ask us to wait and put us on a wait list so she would find us another table. She was very abrupt and said just leave. We feel that we were treated the worst ever and will never be back and will tell all our local friends to make sure this woman gets educated in proper customer service or be fired. read more

First time coming into this bar, I have been to PV numerous times and had always thoughts about coming into here. This trip I decided to sit down, found a stool at the bar and sat down and had cocktail. As I sat there the 3 guys came in and wanted to sit at the bar also, I did not notice them come in I was face in my phone of course! The bartender says to the 3 guys "don't worry he will move down and looked at me". There was two seats on one side of me and one seat on the other side of me. If the bartender had just said "would you mind moving down one seat" I wouldn't be writing this review. Asking someone gets you more then telling someone to do something. read more

Ive visited Garbo numerous times over the past six months and have found it to invariably comfortable and welcoming. The crowd is 80% Gay and very laid back, the drinks are good, the music is fun and the service is great. Garbo is a great alternative to the over amped and frenetic scene in a lot of the other Zona places. read more

A/C was very nice on this very humid night Bartender Robert was really nice and chatted with us throughout the night He was a great bartender, very attentive and had a great personality I asked for a lemon drop which was good, not too sweet. A 5 piece jazz band played. They did pass around the hat for tips. The music was really good. I would have loved to dance but no one else was but they were moving in their seats A definitely go to place, mostly gay guys but a handful couples and at one time I was only female but everyone was so nice! read more

The drinks were fabulous, the service was great, and the music was phenomenal. But this place is getting a 1 Star from me simply because when it came between me and another customer who was "booing" me when I was dancing with my mom and then continued to flip me off saying "bitch, sit down", the bar bartender took the guy's side allowing the man to stay at the bar leading us to get kicked out. The environment seemed to be friendly, and we were having a good time salsa dancing to the live music when 2 old American men started flipping us off and saying "boo bitch". It is unfortunate that they favored men who had no respect for women and was discriminatory towards women is sickening. I will never come back hear, and will tell every single person I know who comes to puerto Vallarta to not come here, as well. Update: the man who was so rude to us was kind enough to send me a message replying to this review stating as to why he was so rude. He felt like we were disrespectful to the band (which we were not because the drummer is my friend) and he said we were drunk spilling our drinks everywhere which is also not true, because that was the table next to us. But that's ok, sometimes there is miscommunication or misunderstanding, but it's unfortunate that Garbo's patrons handled that situation so rude and disrespectfully. The other patrons, who seem to have been on this ship together for a long time, are sitting at their assigned tables and think that they are HI-laroous. I don't. Oh, well. Fancy, cruise-ship elegance. A "mature" crowd (I'm 58 and don't get to say that much anymore). Expensive, impotent drinks (Viagra and liquor shouldn't mix). Next, please. BEWARE. Friends and I went twice. A second visit speaks to enjoying it the first time. That said, based upon the second, their garbage service has lost customers for good. To be told by the waiter that our gratuity was an insult and not enough to cover what he had to pay the front desk and the bartender...for this always healthy tipper....just too much. When I asked what more I needed to leave, there was no answer. I did stay to share the story with the Manager who assured me it would be corrected and to please return, the incident needs to be shared as I hate for others to have a similar horrible experience. Cocktail hour before you go out to dinner (6p-8p) Sit at the bar & mingle with other guys on vacation. A good time to meet the bar staff & get acquainted. Martini's are good! Full bar. The place empties out and is DEAD quiet until folks drop back in for entertainment which begins at 10:30p. The lounge tables fill quickly since they are set near the stage & dance floor. Great variety of entertainment. The hat gets passed for tips at the end of each gig. It's a friendly & laid back atmosphere. Very EASY to start up conversations with others. Try this place & you will make it one of your favorites. Stopping in at times other than mentioned will probably leave you unimpressed. read more

This place was quite the delight! We were brought here quickly by a friend very early in the evening. They had just opened and said music wouldn't be on until 10pm, so we decided to go have happy hour and a bite somewhere else and come back. We actually came back the next night around 8:30 PM. Yes, still early, but we enjoyed the fabulous A/C on this hot and humid day. They have a pretty nice cocktail/martini menu, and a few wines/beers. We started with cocktails and then switched to wine. The bartenders were SUPER friendly and really paid us a lot of attention. Now, as a disclaimer, this shows up as a GAY bar. And yes, it is in the gay part of town. We were 1 of 2 straight couples in there (and that couple left before 9:30). After that, I was the only female in the place. This doesn't bother me (or us) at all, as we are from SF and are very LBGT friendly. But just letting everyone know that around 10pm, when the music starts, expect the gay guys to start rolling in. now, about the music! OMG! That night was a trio of 2 male guitar players and a female singer (and I think I remember hearing 2 if not 3 were related). They were SOOOOO Good! I honestly mean that. They did some killer renditions of some classics, as well as some current radio hits (one from Selena Gomez and that Desposito song that is everywhere right now). I thoroughly enjoyed the music so much that we stayed until they were finished. They did pass around a tip jar for the band and I didn't mind a bit to contribute. I will definitely come back on my next trip to this place. It was a nice evening of cocktails, wine and awesome music in a very air conditioned place. read more

Well we thought this was a very Nice piano-style bar. Very chill and quiet. Well when the. Bill arrived, the waiter came back and demanded that our gratuity was an insult. WTF?? I guess we as the customers have no right to choose our own gratuity based on our service received. I find it completely unacceptable to be reprimanded by a server when they don't feel tipped properly. GARBO, you need teach your staff the basics of customer service. WE will NEVER return to Garbo. Lots of places in Puerto Vallarta to enjoy our evenings an not get blasted for not tipping enough. Good luck. read more

Garbo's is such a fun treat of a spot. It's a fun piano bar with fun service. Depending on the night it can be either packed full or mostly dead, but either way you will have a GREAT time. Even if it's dead, just hanging with the staff and locals is just as fun. This is close to our condos and we love to stop in for some drinks and fun!! read more

OMG I was there when that all happened on 3/13/18 with one of their own patrons was able to treat a fun group of people who were dancing....they were treated so bad. It was very verbally abusive, and this old man was so angry it was so odd I am was thinking he must have missed taking his meds. But the sad thing was the manager and bartender of Garbo's never addressed this angry person from behaving so odd and they allowed him to scream at the people dancing telling them to get the F out from the end of the bar wear he was planted on a bar stool. Garbo's staff should have escorted this old man and his friend who put his hands on the lady out the front door. I never been so embarrassed to witness this I truly felt they were discriminated for being "lebians" (that is what the grumpy old man said) but what was funny the lady said I am dancing with my daughter, he didn't care and in all honesty did that even matter feel like we went ten steps backwards by this ignorant old man.
