They farmed out the work to a sub who attempted heavy upsells. Tech showed up. He gave me the price for a tune-up. He told me I needed new Springs and that they would be $1,000. I said no thank you, just do the rollers. Then he told me he could do Canadian springs for $750. I said no thank you. Then he told me he could do Chinese springs for $500. I said no thank you. Then occasionally throughout the job he would knock on my door and tell me my springs really needed to be replaced and offer me lower prices on the springs. When he left he was still telling me I needed new springs and trying to convince me to buy. Then when I wrote the check, it wasn't to the actual company I thought it was hiring. He told me when they're busy they hire him as a sub. He left. 2 hours later another guy in a beat up old minivan knocked on my door telling me he was there from this company to fix my garage door. I told him a guy already came and did the work. He got mad and told me he was supposed to do the work. I told him I didn't know what the deal was but to take it up with the company. I hired a company who I later found out used this business as a subcontractor to install my garage door in late June 2025, and unfortunately, the experience has been extremely disappointing from start to finish. The installation was delayed from the original date, and when it finally happened, the technician arrived unannounced at 6:50 a.m.--over an hour earlier than scheduled--waking up the entire household. After the technician left, the garage door wouldn't close, and instead of sending someone to fix it, I was told over the phone to try adjusting the sensor myself. Workmanship and customer service was very poor. Later, I discovered that the technician had thrown away the cord to my MyQ system without asking. After multiple follow-ups, they admitted fault and agreed to cover the cost of a replacement, but it took far too much effort to get that resolved. The garage door molding was also installed incorrectly. Despite repeated calls and promises from the owner that it would be fixed within two weeks, months went by with no progress or any initiative from the business to fix it. I had to call multiple times to ask when they were coming. When a technician finally returned- MUCH later than scheduled, he started pulling at the molding WITHOUT notifying us of his arrival--then attempted to leave after "fixing it," telling me to not open the garage door for a day. When I insisted that the installation needs to be done correctly, he left again saying he didn't have the parts to do so. Since then, my calls have been ignored. It's been over four months since the installation, and the molding was only fixed when I called the original company to complain of the issue. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and communication has been deeply frustrating. I hesitate to write bad reviews - I usually only write good ones to help bring business to hard working people. However, these issues have dragged on for over 4 months and I feel that I must warn others about my experience. The technician was supposed to arrive between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today. I confirmed at 10 a.m., but he never showed. Despite multiple texts throughout the day, he repeatedly claimed he was on his way but never arrived. Around 3:30 p.m., I requested a refund if he could not come and he agreed. He then promised to arrive between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., but still did not show. When I called to request my refund, he claimed our text exchange was a "mix-up" with another customer, hung up several times, laughed at me, raised his voice at me and refused to return my deposit--stating he didn't care about negative reviews. Went with these guys cause of the great reviews and lowest price. Unfortunately those reviews may not be real. Tech that installed my opener did very poor quality work as if he was in a rush. He also asked if he could borrow a 1/2" long socket from my tool box. Then later I see he decided to grab one of my ladders cause he only had a 3 step ladder. He tried to sell me a wireless button for the garage at $175. I said no and he was very pushy. Then the wired one he did install was ran very sloppy. He didn't run along the original around door frame or anything. Just a straight run that says no pride in craftsmanship. Next was the thr sensors. He installed about 2ft off the ground. Old ones were 6". He wasn't happy I asked him to lower them. Then he couldn't go much further down cause he already had cut wires short. When it was almost done he said the motor is bad. So he had to run back buy another use that motor and then he put the bad motor back in the box for a return. While putting the new one in he asked if I could help hold the motor while he connects the rail. It wasn't a big deal but I just had hernia surgery last week and wasn't planning on helping with the install. I should have gone with my original guy. He has much better customer service. Oh and if I hadn't said anything he would have left all the trash and wires behind on the floor. Lastly keep in mind there's no warranty on the work just the parts. Update* got a call from Adam the owner and he apologized. He came himself and corrected all the issues. I'm satisfied with Adams work. I have used them before in November 2024 and possibly another time before that. Each time in the past, I communicated with Adam and the service was good that's why we reached out again last week when our garage door was falling. I called on Wednesday and spoke with Adam and he was able to secure an appointment for me later in the afternoon when I had to go to work. My dad was home. One of our garage door torsion springs broke. I called Garage Door Magician. Adam arrived promptly and recommended changing both torsion springs for $600. The door worked that night, but not the next morning. Then, I asked someone else to look at the door. He noticed the original two red coded torsion springs (for doors up to 150 lbs.) were replaced with one white (110 lb. door) and one yellow (130 lb. door). Not only were the torsion springs weak replacements, but they weren't balanced (the same amount of torsion). In addition, according to the second technician, the white spring was manufactured in the past year, but the yellow spring was manufactured in 2010. Upon examination, it was obvious that the yellow spring was not new -- it appeared used. I called Adam. Even on the phone, he was less than forthcoming. An appointment was scheduled for a few days later. Upon arrival, we went over the issues. I offered two solutions: (1) return our money or (2) he can go to his supplier, pick up two "red" coded springs, and install them. Adam refused to replace the springs. Instead, he tried to obfuscate the issue with a chart on his phone. At the same time, he would not acknowledge the discrepancy between his springs and the originals, the mismatch between the two springs he installed, and the fact one spring appeared old and used. Instead, he got in his truck and stormed away. I will be seeking redress through small claims court. (NOTE: Garage door repairs greater than $500 require that the company have a specific contractor license. A search for "Garage Door Magician" in the California Contractor database produced zero matches.) read more
