I have been going to Wilderness Walk almost every year for my entire life - and now I bring my…read morechildren too. It has been and is a highlight of our entire summer. The up close interaction with the animals is AMAZING! Feeding corn to the deer or squirrels, the baby animals, the farm, the woodland trail with the beautiful pheasants, the peacocks, the tiger and bears playing in their enclosures and so many more animals to see - it is an unreal experience. The farm is of special note - the opportunity for the kids to see, pet and feed the wide assortment of farm animals is a great experience. While some attractions don't age well, Wilderness Walk has a heck of a built in advantage with the Wild West town. Every year just seems to make it better. Most of the best and most memorable parts of Wilderness Walk from my childhood are still available - panning for gold, the maze, the mystery house (with water flowing uphill - a MIND-BLOWER when you are a kid, the goat towers with the buckets that the goats can pull up to themselves with ropes to get fed, the cafe (though I do miss the old school bowling game they had there) and the gift shop (where as a kid I purchased the first fireworks that I ever purchased with my own money - and permission of my parents as) with old school up north souvenirs. You will want to come early (deer are more approachable earlier) and make a good day of it. If you have really little ones, this is outdoors and Wilderness - so while the right parts and trails are perfectly well groomed, strollers can be challenging - don't let that stop you though - if you even only went to the parts that are effortlessly accessible by stroller you will be fine, see the best hi lights and still be able to make a pretty full time of it. All in all, this is one of Americas last actual family up north attractions. It is a good value for your finite "up north" budget. With the longevity that Wilderness Walk has had, it is clear that they do things very right! Tips: - wear comfortable shoes - you may get dusty or a little dirty - you ARE petting animals - DEFINITELY wear sunscreen - even if it is overcast - bug spray is a good idea - there is a reason it is called WILDERNESS Walk - hand sanitizer is good to bring if you worry about that sort of thing - remember a deer or goat might lick your hand :) - wet naps work well too, but don't throw them on the ground (I am looking at you entire state of Illinois, lol) - bathrooms are decent and easily accessible - bring some quarters. It can speed things up for you for games - animal feed , etc - there is plenty of area for a picnic - it makes a nice break in the action - the cafe has always been good. We alternate between a picnic and the cafe based upon how we feel that year. Oh, and last thing for those of you who went as kids - outhouse. Yep, it's still there.

Love this place. The staff are always friendly and the animals are very well cared for!read more
