I swear to Peter, Paul and Mary, Spencer Gifts employees and Victoria's Secret sales associates are a lot less easily flustered. You work in an adult novelty store that sells everything from lube to toys to porn to greeting cards, a married couple -- MARRIED COUPLE, mind you -- comes in wanting to buy something, and they come to you with questions about a certain item... if you're so embarrassed by customers approaching you with a question, then maybe don't work here? Just a thought. It is your job to make the shopping experience as comfortable for the customers as possible. We don't feel awkward in this type of situation, but others might, and so you really can't be a shrinking violet, or fazed by questions about this type of merchandise, if you are in this line of work. Otherwise, what's the point? Also, right after we finished paying, another customer who didn't seem to know where she was asked my husband for a jump-start on her car (when we came in, we noticed her looking at the merchandise and she seemed a bit weirded out or didn't seem to know what was what). And this is a standalone store, and she was parked close. It's not like she came from two stores down after she couldn't find anyone to help her jump-start her car. I do like this place more than Annabelle's Adult Supercenter (which does lean more toward the trashy side, if I'm being honest), but overall, a really weird experience that we do not want repeated, when and if we decide to return.

I actually had a great experience here. The store was clean and well organized. There was a good…read morevariety of pretty much everything you could think of. I loved Player's Choice. It was the quintessential local video game store. Not a big box chain…read more Just owned and operated by guys who lived in the Triad and shared in the passion of video games and, to a lesser extent, anime and that kind of stuff. Player's Choice was ahead of its time and I'm not sure the City of High Point's population/economy was big nor "advanced" enough to sustain it. I think a store like Player's Choice was better-suited for bigger cities and metropolitan areas with larger gaming communities that had more disposable income. New and rare video games, consoles, and anime weren't cheap! Gaming can be an expensive hobby. I visited this Player's Choice store in High Point multiple times in the late 90s. My mom used to drive me over 30 minutes just to get to the flagship store in Winston-Salem on Robinhood Road: https://www.yelp.com/biz/game-on-winston-salem. However, around the time this location opened, circa 1998, I was old enough to drive. I'd either come here by myself or bring my friends. As high schoolers, we couldn't afford much here, but it was still fun to visit and browse. This location was only five minutes from our house so needless to say, I was very happy it opened. Player's Choice had game rental plans well before services like GameFly. I got some great deals on used anime OVAs on VHS. Even in the late 90s, I could tell this store was struggling. During my visits, business in the store couldn't compare to the business I saw at the Robinhood location. Across the country, video game shops like this have been closing in droves because the demand for physical media isn't what it used to be. The Robinhood store, which eventually changed its name to Game On, officially closed on January 4, 2020. This used to be the Staples shopping center, but Harbor Freight is now the anchor in Staples' old space. And today, a Boost Mobile store is where Player's Choice used to be. Thanks for the memories, Player's Choice of High Point. Gone, but never forgotten.

From pre made book boxes to book marks, coffee mugs, tshirts/sweatshirts, blankets, ornaments, crafts, puzzles - the list goes on and on! The space is also STUNNING! It's the perfect girlie vibe for the female reader and I'm so here for it. There is so much Taylor Swift merch I could die of happiness. Their staff were also so friendly. I went to buy a book box and all they had left were Taylor swift, YA, and travel boxes but they said if I message them on social media they can always update me on what they have available for that week. Run, don't walk, to the CUTEST book store in all the land with every book need you'll ever have!

They had a nice selection of carefully curated books for reading enthusiasts. The selection is small relative to bookstores like McKays, but this spot definitely has community first and small businesses energy that makes you feel good. It is also not overly cluttered and there is plenty of space to sit and enjoy the environment on sofas. When I shopped here, they had a bunch of mystery date with a book set, but many of them had sold out. When I asked if they had a particular genre, they were able to communicate with the person in the back to assemble one on the spot so I could purchase it. The set was super cute with bookmarks, stickers, and a book wrapped in paper. Definitely a fun gift to give clever and the genre is written on the front. I would definitely recommend incorporating this spot into a cute downtown date. Stopping by this bookstore and picking something out, then going to Kyle's coffee to chat would be a fantastic afternoon out. Great little spot!
