I had been to this shop multiple times before and had intentionally tried to support a local…read morefamily-owned business, which makes this experience especially disappointing. I was contacted and told: "Our 30th anniversary shipment came in today, you were on the list so we're holding one ETB and one poster collection for you." Based on that message, I believed the products were actually being held for me. I responded the next morning and told them I would be there around noon. When I arrived, I found out the items I thought were being held had apparently already been sold, and the replacements they were offering were priced significantly higher because they had purchased them from the secondary market. None of that was communicated to me before I drove over. When I questioned it, I was later told that if I had picked them up the day they texted me, the ETB would have been $99, but because I came the next day they had sold out. That was never stated in the original message. "We're holding one for you" is very different from "first come, first served" or "must be picked up today." Had they told me there was a same-day deadline, I could have gone that evening or continued trying to buy the products somewhere else. What bothered me even more was the way the conversation ended. After I explained why I was frustrated, the response was essentially, "OMG! We were here till 10. What can I say so that you are satisfied and happy so we can move on." I found that dismissive and unprofessional, especially after I had been a repeat customer. This was not simply about paying above MSRP. It was about being told merchandise was being held for me, relying on that statement, and then being given a completely different explanation afterward. Unfortunately, after this interaction, I won't be spending my money here anymore.

The whole interaction felt like he assumed we knew nothing about cards and that he knew everything, which made for a very uncomfortable experience. On top of that, the offers we received felt extremely low. I understand that a card shop needs to make a profit when buying cards, but there's a difference between making a reasonable offer and making someone feel like they're being taken advantage of. More than anything, it was the attitude that turned us off. You can disagree on a card's value without talking down to people. We definitely won't be coming back.

I will save my opinion at the end of what transpired. Timeline of Events Friday August 7th, 2026 Sign ups for One Piece Card Game 4th Anniversary Event (OP-17 Release Event) for Diamond 9 Sports: Saturday, OP17 Prerelease (Saturday August 22nd) & One Piece Card Game 4th Anniversary Event (OP-17 Release Event) for Diamond 9 Sports: Sunday, OP17 Prerelease (Sunday August 23rd) made available on the Bandai TCG Plus app. I successfully signed up for both events at $40 each Both events format is One Piece Card Game (English) - Sealed (Sealed format: 6 Packs (each participant should use the same number of packs.) After opening 6 packs, players build a 40-card deck, and a 10 DON!! card deck. (Source: https://en.onepiece-cardgame.com/pdf/tournament_rules_manual_op02.pdf ) Friday August 21, 2026 10:01 AM Received notification that the event has changed to Constructed format where there will only be 3 packs given out. The cost of the event remains $40. By this time all other events from other stores have filled up. Saturday August 22nd The event's format remained Constructed, however Entry was reduced to $10 and we received only 1 OP17 Booster Pack along with the promotional materials (OP17 Special Don!!, Rainbow Luffy + Luffy Promo, OP17 Release Stamped Promo Pack). Prizing (Gold Stamped Luffy) was given out to the winner. I paid this event in cash. Sunday August 23rd The event changed to Saturday's format: Constructed, Entry at $10 and we received only 1 OP17 Booster Pack along with the promotional materials (OP17 Special Don!!, Rainbow Luffy + Luffy Promo, OP17 Release Stamped Promo Pack). Prizing (Gold Stamped Luffy) was given out to the winner. I paid for this event with my credit card as proof of transaction. Opinion and Review I have been coming to Diamond 9 for a few months for their events. Thought their pricing was fair and the store owners were nice enough. That being said, how they handled this event felt very bait and switch. They advertised this event as $40 where you would get 6 booster packs. In the days leading up to the event the price and format changed (which went to $40 for 3 booster packs to $10 for 1 booster pack). This isn't an allocation issue. As Diamond 9 received their allocations of One Piece cards for this event. They just simply reduced the number of allocation of the booster packs to the players who signed up and kept the difference to sell at market rate. I agree that it is the store owner's right to change the price of a product when it fluctuates with the market but to change the format and the price after people sign up only to get notification of the format and price change the day before the event is simply bait and switch. I will not trust Diamond 9 for any business in the future as their pricing of events can change.

Came into this shop looking to buy quite a few cards. Joey, the employee working, was friendly and…read morehelpful, but the way the shop handles pricing and negotiations was extremely frustrating. The employee couldn't give me prices or really negotiate. For every card, he had to send the owner a picture and recent comps and wait for a response because the owner wasn't there. I was making reasonable offers based on recent sales and was completely open to negotiating, but I rarely received any actual counteroffers. If my offer is too low, that's totally fine--just give me a number to work with. Going through only about six cards took roughly 30 minutes because of all the waiting. I came in ready to spend money and buy multiple cards, so this was pretty frustrating. Payment was another issue. I had run out of cash and offered to pay through Zelle, but was told electronic/card payments would have sales tax added while cash wouldn't. I've bought plenty of cards from shops before and personally have never encountered that with Zelle, so it really caught me off guard. Joey himself was nice, but the shop's system needs improvement. Having to wait for an absent owner to remotely price and approve every card makes a simple buying experience way more difficult and time-consuming than it needs to be.
