The restaurant was located in a quiet area. We decided to eat outside. We started with the seafood platter, where everything was raw. It came with oysters, three types of shrimp, shrimp paste, three types of ceviche, and a carpaccio. My favorite was the carpaccio, which had pieces of freeze dried raspberry on top. The only thing I didn't like was one of the ceviches. We had a plate of fried calamari and shrimp next. The batter was excellent! Lastly, we had a pasta dish with clams. It was simple but delicious. We had a phenomenal lunch here at Gambero Rosso, stumbling upon it as we strolled through the downtown area of Civitavecchia. We opted not to visit Rome with our larger group and have a day to ourselves in a smaller locale. There is loads of history here, and the food is absolutely delicious. We had two different types of pasta. I had a wider noodle, a fettuccine I believe with a robust meat sauce that was incredible. My husband had a lighter thinner spaghetti noodle with a wonderful tomato sauce. The bread is fantastic, the wine was delicious, the service is friendly and cheerful, and the setting was cool and breezy on a warm afternoon. What more could you want?? read more

Had a memorable lunch here while in town on a cruise ship. The reviews encouraged us to seek out this pleasant, family run (for many years) restaurant for lunch. So glad we did! We shared bruschetta and the absolute best spaghetti carbonara ever. The carbonara was creamy and rich- made the traditional way including guanciale, egg yolks, and pecorino. For dessert we had a creamy, flakey pastry with fruit. Service was as friendly and sincere as one could hope to have. Vanessa was our wonderful server who spoke perfect English; her father is the chef and her mother greeted us as we entered. Wish we could go back often- but next time we have a day in Civitavecchia will be sure to return. I've posted some photos. Our visit was in mid-October. read more

It was the best meal we had in our 3 days in Italy. The bruschetta was different, with one topping on each piece, and they were all delicious! I got Spaghetti Carbonara - it was creamy, eggy, and had nice pieces of meat throughout. My wife got Pasta with Zucchini, which was also wonderful. Very good wine list and all over reasonable prices. As antipasti- The bruschetta mixta is a must, best bruschetta I've ever had. The squid ragout is delicious. The zucchini pasta with shrimp was buttery and amazing. Appetizer for 2 plate of seafood one course cold and another course hot - (most tender and flavorful seafood I have eaten during our week stay in Rome and Civi. Fresh salad very simple. Then as a main course a stuffed pasta with a fish and ricotta topped with Olive Oil and fresh pitted olives. If I could rate them higher I would. Both of the pasta dishes my wife and I had were just phenomenal. The Caprese is the best I have ever had. Tomatoes that taste like tomatoes and the mozzarella was fresh and very flavorful as well. If I lived here I would weigh 500 pounds. We had a surprise day in Civitavecchia and stumbled soon Ristorante Gambero Rosso. I had the Carbonarra (it was literally to die for. You must order it) and my wife, who was less hungry had the wonderful bruschetta and Caprese. The restaurant was busking for lunch - with a combination of locals and those of us from the harbor - but despite the number of diners for lunch the staff was friendly and the service was quick. The bottle of Pino Grigio off the rather long wine list didn't hurt!!! Don't normally post photos - but had to stop mid meal to share. Highly recommend!!! read more

A group of eight of us ate here on the recommendation of the owners of the hotel we were staying at. The appetizers, pastas, main courses and "dolce" (desserts) were all excellent! Found this place on Yelp and decided to take a chance. Glad we did. Caprese Salad was delicious. My wife had Bolognese and I had Carbonara. We shared a plate of calamari e gamberi friti. All excellent. Only "mistake" was when waiter brought us octopus salad instead of caprese. I think it was just my pitiful Italian but it was quickly fixed. We'd come back in a heartbeat. read more
