One of the things that was drilled into me while growing up was that if you wanted to be a…read morewell-dressed person, your best ally is to have an excellent tailor. Not only to alter or mend clothes but also make them for you if need be. That can be prohibitively expensive here but in places like India, Turkey or Hong Kong, it's what everyone does. And in this day and age of everything made in China, finding a decent, well-trained tailor is getting more difficult all the time. So when I recently found a brand new, unused Aquascutum navy blue trench coat at my local Frip-prix, I knew who I had to look for. These coats usually go for $2000 retail at places like Holt Renfrew or Ogilvy's and while the coat was way too big for me, I just couldn't let such a rare find get away. I came to Natale Tailleur and the elderly Milanese gentleman here did his magic. He altered the coat to fit me without once compromising on the integrity of the quality of the coat. You could tell his workmanship was Old School Milan. He charged me $50 total. Coat Retail:$2000 Coat cost at Frip-Prix $35 Coat Alterations:$50 Total savings for a high-end luxury overcoat: $1915

First time I picked it up, the cord was still broken, which they said that they would fix. Second time around, it's not ready yet as they still have to pass the cord around. Diva Pierre D. told me to never come again, then could not subtract the change well from the bill I handed, and then had to open the cash again to give me the 10$ dollars he was [keeping] from my change. I was visiting Montréal from Los Angeles, and had an important meeting on Friday. On Tuesday, I…read moretried on the suit I'd brought, only to discover I'd brought the wrong pants -- they were both too long and too baggy. Mid-afternoon, I walked over to Nettoyeur Unique Express, where I was greeted in a friendly manner. I explained my predicament, and was assured it would be no problem. I confessed that I had no idea what proper fit should be, and the woman doing alterations patiently helped determine what needed changing. When I asked if I have the altered pants and the cleaned suit by Friday morning, they said yes, and in fact, they could have them ready by Thursday evening. Thursday evening came, everything was ready, the pants fit perfectly, and I looked well-dressed for my meeting. I was very pleased. The work was top notch, it was fast, and reasonably priced. The people were friendly. What more could you ask for?
