Kaplansky Insurance

Kaplansky Insurance

Bit of a mixed bag over the years. We were doing business with an agency in Needham. Kaplansky…read moretook over the accounts and we've stayed with them so far although as of late I am having thoughts of moving my business. I've been doing business with this office for over 30 years. When we were purchasing a house from the builder, he kept moving the closing date around, Each time we needed an updated insurance binder. That may be a simple thing to do perhaps, but the people in the Needham office took care of it with no issues. They made sure we had what we needed. Excellent job. The worst issue I had was when the wrong driver was assigned points in an accident. Also, according to the paperwork the same driver was driving both cars in the accident. The Needham office was unable to fix the problem. I could go into the gory details as to why but its irrelevant. Two different people in the Needham office were unable to resolve the issue over 3 years. They would stop looking at it unless I prompted them with a phone call. I somehow got in touch with Nilda in the Cambridge office and she was able to figure out why this was going on and knew exactly how to fix it. Can't say enough good things about Nilda. Unfortunately she is part time. She actually remembered the original agency I started with(my cousins). Overall, the Needham office has been lackluster in solving problems. Another time I called up to get changes done to my insurance and the person(yet a third person) that was helping me seemed excellent, until a long weekend happened and she simply dropped my matter. I had to call up to get her started on it again and I had to remind her what it was she was working on. She had forgotten our discussions entirely until I prompted her. The other negative is that most insurance companies and agents will proactively ask you questions to try and get you the discounts appropriate for you. eg. Good GPA driver, driver lives more than 100 miles from home...etc. Every year I have to call up and play twenty questions with someone in the Needham office to get them to apply the proper credits/discounts. I feel like I don't have an agent as I am doing all the work. My wife and I were outright thinking of leaving Kaplansky. It occurred to me today that perhaps I should just contact a different office and have someone there do the work. I might try this before I leave. I'm uncertain.

I have been a customer for over 20 years, since they were Lexx insurance. I recently had a terrible…read moreexperience with the Concord office. It's taken them over a month to move offices. In the meantime I've been trying to get in touch with someone to go over my policies and make some changes. No one will call me back. Not Taylor, not Sean the office manager...I even tried to get an appointment at the Cambridge office and no one called me back. It's pretty obvious they don't want my business. I'm in the process of changing agencies. I don't recommend them at all. So almost immediately after posting this review I got a call. The next day I had an appointment in the office and we went over everything and they ended up saving me a few hundred dollars. Great. Fast forward to this morning . I need a home owner policy for another property. After several attempts at calling I finally got someone. They took my information and said someone would call me back in 20 minutes. It's been several hours now and still waiting. I'm unable to get anyone on the phone despite repeated attempts. It's like they don't want/need my business. I'm sure I'll get a call after I post this. Really sad it has to come to this. Oh and I also stopped by their Concord "office" since it's on my way home. Lights out and locked up tight at 4 pm.

It's amazing! Hub's own blog describes the worst practice…read morethey employ. https://www.hubinternational.com/blog/2016/10/dont-be-such-a-critic-negative-online-reviews/ Perhaps, my story will be a cautionary one to anyone thinking of dealing with Hub. I reached out in December of 2019 to local Hub broker, Karen Moore-Mello (Acton, MA office, 978-795-3349, Karen.Moore-Mello@HubInternational.com) to get a quote on auto and renter's insurance. My current insurance was set to renew on January 11th, and I stressed that I needed the proof of insurance by then. After several emails, narrowing down various details (collision, amounts, etc.) we settled on policy that would include collision on one of the cars, the BMW, and 100/300 limits. She sent me the application with a note "please check", and I faxed it back, signed. January 10th comes, and with no word from Karen or the new carrier, Quincy Mutual, I renew my old policy with Travelers. Still, no word from Hub. On January 23rd, I'm involved in a crash. I call Travelers, who then process the claim, as expected. Out of sheer curiosity, I email to Hub, and ask whatever happened to my application. In an email (clearly, my money do not warrant a phone call), Karen informs me that the policy documents were returned because they were mailed to my residential address, not my mailing one. Sadly, the "broker" didn't bother to verify. In the meantime, I speak several times with Travelers, latest being on 30th, as they update me on the claim. On January 31st, as I'm buying a new car, Travelers automated recording tells me that I'm no longer their customer. Several furious calls later it turns out that Karen, without even bothering to notify me, has switched the carriers on me, and did it mid-claim. Now, Travelers are no longer involved in covering the claim. MOREOVER, the new policy with Quincy Mutual does not have collision coverage on it, so I'm out thousands of dollars. I call left and right, and Karen's supervisor, Patricia Angell (978-263-0458, patricia.angell@hubinternational.com), tells me outright that since many different options were discussed between me and Karen, I'm stuck with what I signed (never mind that "errors and omissions" clause protects the insured against any and all screw-ups made by the insurance agent). It takes me multiple phone calls to Hub headquarters to even reach Timm Marini, the president of Hub International New England (his cell is 413-233-2103, timothy.marini@hubinternational.com). Timm listens, responds apologetically, and asks for a few days to straighten everything out. AND, disappears for two weeks. Not even a phone call from him, but I do get an email saying that he's traveling. Nope, my money isn't good enough to warrant a call back. Not important enough, I guess. I call Hub International Headquarters (Chicago, 312-596-7522, Ashley is the receptionist) to pass a message along to Sean McCullough on Friday, February 21st On Monday, the 24th, I get a response from John Zawilinski, the COO of Hub International New England (cell 617-312-1799, john.zawilinski@hubinternational.com). As Timm Marini, he's apologetic, and friendly, and tells me that he's gonna find a solution quickly. I've already spoken to an attorney, but, I'm willing to give Hub another chance. John gets back to me later that day, and the following day I get a phone call from Hub International claims adjuster, who within couple of days short-changes me on the value of my car, just to get rid of me. As to be expected. So, there you have it. (No, John never called back. Even after I left a voice mail asking for a call back. Karen never apologized for stiffing me on the policy (don't they make higher commission if they sell higher premiums?) Patti (Karen's supervisor) made it look like it was my own damn fault. Timm, the Hub president for New England, couldn't be rid of me quickly enough. And John, the COO for New England operations, got the wheels in motion, saving himself and the company tens of thousands in litigation, only to short-change me on the value of the car. And, no, he couldn't be bothered to call me back. So if you DO decide to do business with Hub, remember. They'll force you to buy your own dinner, and they won't supply the KY gel.

They are the worst!!!…read more If you enjoy bad customer service. If you enjoy having to advocate for yourself with the insurance broker and have your insurance agent do nothing on your behalf. If you enjoy being treated like an idiot. Then HUB is for you.
