We just came from a wonderful dinner experience at Galata Restaurant. Service was excellent and friendly; Mert was a real sweetheart and offered my friend and I some Turkish tea (this restaurant serves free tea refills- be careful, as it is strong and addictive!)
We started with some lentil soup, which helped warm our bellies (Prague was a toe-nipping 32*F). If you prefer a spicier soup, there is a shaker with what I'm guessing is some Aleppo pepper; soup is served with a wedge of lemon and some pillowy balloon bread which is baked fresh in their oven.
The Adana kebab was flavorful, it's served with bulgar wheat, grilled pepper and tomato, some raw red onion slices, and Ezme salad (which I can only describe as a warmed spicy salsa). The hummus was yummy, and their pita bread was nice and soft.
The lahmacun was crisped nicely on the bottom; it was served with lettuce, parsley, tomatoes, pickled peppers and a lemon wedge.
Dolmas and baba ghanoush were also great.
The restaurant may look small, but there was also seating in the back.
This was such a nice dinner experience; please give it consideration if you're in the area and want a reprieve from some of the heavier local foods. read more
